I began listening to this audiobook in December while on my way to the Queen Mary for her Cold “Open.” And it made it that much more exciting. And made me appreciate what it took to get her to Long Beach and her place in Long Beach that much more. I knew she was a huge reason for the city’s revival efforts. But dang! Who knew so many Long Beach citizens had so many good things to say and memories to share. The amount of insight is insane.
Hey Alex, thanks for putting this all together! I missed a few chapters, but really enjoyed what I heard. So now I can go back and hear what I missed. Sounds great with your wonderful voice, sorry it felt awkward to read (some dialogue in plays can be like that too LOL). Glad you stuck with it, but I'd say take a break before doing another book, and test the dialogue before starting too. 😊
You did a good job with this. It is written a bit strangely but it's by no means written poorly. I only cried a lot, ha! Thank you for making this book accessible. Will subtitles happen at some point?
@@AlextheHistorian That's quite understandable. Of course hypothetically if you had a scanner good enough to generate a PDF that a computer could then convert into plain text, it would be much faster. That's essentially how they digitize books. Do you remember the older CAPCHAs where you had to transcribe distorted text? They were words that Google's digitizing algorithm had trouble with. An absolutely miserly way to solve that problem but it worked, and now they have us identifying cars to blur out for Google Maps.
I fear that even if I was able to scan the book...you see, I did this audio book without permission from the rights holder. If they gave me trouble for it, I might be able to defend myself by saying it was recorded with my voice. But I'm afraid copying the book word for word and posting it publicly might land me in plagiarism hot water.
Can you please make a video that goes more in depth into chapter 11? That would be awesome! I would love to hear more details into what Long Beach did to her after she arrived.
Your videos are great. What's a better way to learn about the Queen Mary than from a huge nerd? edit: that was supposed to be nice, but i think it came off as rude. you rock!
That was big mistake Cunard should have kept the Queen Mary much nicer ship than the Queen Elizabeth 2 more beautiful, but Cunard made bad choices all she’s to old use to much fuel all these stupid excuses so they can have a new smaller ship. The QM could have been fitted fix to do cruises to big huh by 1980’s there we’re cruise ships as big as Queen Mary both Queens could had a better future plus Cunard had both ships paid for. The QE2 was a problem ship with her boilers burning to much fuel later QE2 had to have her decks removed to put new engines in. The two Queen’s were the most beautiful ships even today. Bad mistake Cunard made by selling them

Wonderful Narration, Alex . Loved RMS Queen Mary: Queen of the Queens. Very well done 👏. I loved this book .
Thank you! Yes this book is fantastic. And it's kind of rare, which is why I decided to narrate it.
Thanks for putting all this together. I know it must take a lot of your time.
You're welcome! To be honest, I'm just glad that now more people can enjoy this book, it's really a treasure trove of information.

Thanks Alex, glad you combined all the chapters can't wait to listen to it all on my next trip soon...

You're welcome!
Alex, I wonder if scraping off that 130 tons of rust helped with the Mary's top speed and keeping the Blue Riband for so long. Just thinking.......
Lol good point!
@@AlextheHistorian LOL Well back to work for me.........
I've enjoyed every bit of it.

Oh no more books. This is the only one where I probably won't run into legal trouble.

Unfortunately subtitles will not happen. That would require me to type out the entire novel.

What did Philadelphia want the Queen Mary for anyway? If New York wanted to convert her into a floating high School.
There were nearly 30 bidders, and it's not well documented what each of them wanted to do with the Queen Mary, only a few of them.
@@AlextheHistorian I didn't know that many bidders wanted to buy the Queen Mary.
