The saxophone soli at 9:58 is Branford Marsalis’ solo on Yes or No at the Newport Jazz Festival in 1987. You can check out Marsalis playing this tune on TH-cam.
Sends chills up my spine. Astoundingly beautiful. The best jazz musicians on the planet. Pushes wynton to play like never before. I love seeing the sax section smiling in appreciation as they witness this american treasure and master!! Thank you Wayne for all the years of beautiful music!!!
Whoever disliked this does not understand great jazz, and especially does not understand the art of improvisation, which the soloists here have mastered.. This is a group of good musicians.
Love it! When an entire ensemble of incredibly talented MUSICIANS stand as you walk on to the stage, that's credibility. To today's turn-table spinning, spittin' and 'rhyming'-in-the-mic 'artists' and 'geniuses' --with their over-saturated and shamelessly, over machine, engineered and sampled 'music'---THIS is REAL MUSICIANSHIP!!
Wayne Shorter is a genius, a living legend, one of my favorites composer and sax players. Hope last more longer, he is getting old but his music legacy will last for many decades.
Then why is it called "Yes or no" on the album and he doesnt object calling it "Yes or no" here? I think his words were meant to explain the back story but not change the name of the piece.
Wayne Shorter sounds amazing on this, but yo thats one of the better Wynton solos I’ve ever heard. So well prepared, so free blowing and open. Brilliant.
August 25th: Happy birthday Jazz Saxophonist-Composer Wayne Shorter. 10 x Grammy Award winner, Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. Thank you and God bless. Thanks for the upload, Anthony Camilleri. Blessings
One of the most brilliant compositions of our modern era. Our dear, dear Maestro Shorter got it wrong --perhaps my friend you said No! and then many, many more Yeses!!!
One of my favorite compositions by the great Wayne Shorter! The solo "thumbs down" person must have slipped into a dreamlike coma and thought that he was at a Kanye West concert, (which would certainly justify the thumbs down). Otherwise, I can't imagine why?
Pepper Williams now now, you have someone here who can enjoy Wayne Shorter just as much as Kanye. There are plenty of awful artists out there that are way worse than Kanye lol
Why does it sound to me like the runs starting on 3:50 and continuing into 4:20 like the notes are mostly tongued? Is it just the combination of strong steady air flow and fast fingers that make the attack sound so distinct with each note? He's not actually doing much with the tongue is he? Or maybe he is interleaving tongued articulations sporadically into the runs (not every note obviously)? It sounds awesome
I think Bix Beiderbecke (great cornet player that lived from 1903 to 1931) might have played and sounded like Marsalis if he har lived today - Marsalis is great here
Not going to lie; I don't really like Wayne Shorter's soloing, but I thought the composition was just magical when I first heard it off of the Juju album- and Victor Goines' arranging captures the essence of the piece so beautifully. Nicely done.
Hello , it's not important if you like it. This is Wayne fitting in a concept of nostalgic music scene around Mr.Marsallis. Let's say , museum. People like it , pay a ticket and the musicians have a job. That's the popular bandwagon. If you expect something , then it's a mind over matter thing. Popularity is a bitch. Sorry to say.
The Pianist takes a page from McCoy Tyner original solo on the JuJu Album
Front row saxes to Waynes left be like '
how the fuck did i get this gig'
It's gonna take us 100 years to fully appreciate and "catch up" to what this man has done for music.

Great catch! Thanks for pointing out. I was fortunate to be at both the JALC and Branford's Newport performances and they were both great.
JALC nailed this one....
素晴らしい曲と演奏の数々をありがとう。Mr.Wayne Shorter R.I.P.
I adore and admire how the younger, orchestral Jazzicians embrace Wayne Shorter, their virtuosic elder.
Great performance!

Old man is wailing , unbelievable chops very nice arrangement Lincoln Center Orchestra
This is my personal favorite big band arrangement of all time. It’s a brilliant arrangement of Wayne Shorter’s brilliant composition!!!
Whoever disliked this does not understand great jazz, and especially does not understand the art of improvisation, which the soloists here have mastered.. This is a group of good musicians.
The person must have misclicked the unlike button, I can't think of another explanation. lol
Much people are stupid and, above all JEALOUS!
He's waiting for Kanye to sound like stevie wonder.
I'm breathless, totally soaked by the beauty of this song...
a beautiful solo from Wynton Marsalis, just great

it will last forever...wayne is spiritually eternal... :)
The name of the song is actually Yes AND No, it's got a Yes section in major AND a No section in minor. That was Wayne's own words.
Then why is it called "Yes or no" on the album and he doesnt object calling it "Yes or no" here? I think his words were meant to explain the back story but not change the name of the piece.
Source?
Yooo that sax soli is straight from Branford Marsalis’s solo at the JVC jazz festival at Newport!!
Wayne Shorter sounds amazing on this, but yo thats one of the better Wynton solos I’ve ever heard. So well prepared, so free blowing and open. Brilliant.

Damn, great arrangment. Love Wynton solo on this!
All I can say is WOW! Everyone was KILLING IT!
GENIUS! Where does he come up with these melodies?! Out of this world!
If you know music ,how can you not be floored??
この曲を演奏するには相当のパワーが必要なことが分かる。何度もやらせるな感がバンドから伝わってくる。
Yes and Yes...Yes and Yes...Yes and Yes...
YES!!!!! LOL
I thoroughly enjoyed that. Thank you for posting and thank you to the musicians who played beautifully but most of all, thank you Wayne.
Beautiful sound!!!!!!!
Legend!!!!!

Well done Dan.
Wynton killed it.
Real serious piece...thank you. 👏👍
Monster moments:
7:19 Wynton Marsalis (what the f*ck!!)
9:29 Dan Nimmer (holly sh*t!!)
10:11 man what the h*ll, eargasm @#$%!!!
Hahaha, true, best moments 😍
The soli section is entirely mind blowing. And the fact that they’re quoting Wynton’s brother, the great Branford Marsalis, makes it even better!

別日でしょうか、または別ステージでしょうか、その時の演奏より落ち着いた、おとなしい感じです。バンド全体がウェインショーターのペースに合わせた感じ。

Who has written this classic tune
Wayne Shorter wrote it im pretty sure...

When you are 82 play Yes or No, solo, then judge your solo. Critiques are double edged if u are a musician cause humility goes a long way.......

@@meroenklarenbeek3737 it's certainly important to you 😂
@ 0:31 In Walked Wayne
Shorter like Coltrane ☝🏻☝🏻☝🏻🕺🏼
OMG! Dan Nimmer
Als deze muziek je niets doet ,mis je iets wat onuitspreekbaar is ( wonderlijk) bedankt 😊.
where was this?
it was at the lincoln center in new york
High school band tripe. Fire the arranger!
Bros deaf
マルサリスのソロもやや印象が薄い。別ステージでのマルサリスの方がエキサイティング。
Shorter is a genius but listening to Marsalis is always a waste of time.
Ricardo da Mata no dude you're off. Wynton's solo was super tastesful.
His solos always sound like he's playing Dixieland
@@elliemay1748 From Norleans.
I hope your a troll 😂😂😂cause wynton solo was killing
Let’s here your solo....
Wayne is a brilliant band leader and composer but a weak improviser.
When you are 82 lets here how you sound on Yes or No
Man ! He's the best sax improviser of jazz History
Even Coltrane wasn't such original as him !
