The more I listen to Wayne Shorter, the more I am SURE - He was an Ambassador from Orion, the Pleides - and BEYOND! ...a Manifestation of Pure Genius, and what is Good about Life in this Galaxy! His highly evolved Soul blessed humanity while he passed-through. No Greater LOVE!
Wynton didn't do too bad here! The guy on the piano was holding it down too!! Reminded me of McCoy Tyner with that left hand!! Great job by both of them!! Impressive playing!! Just what I needed
His solo on Contemplation means another virtuosity, like that of Louis Armstrong: the placement of the notes, the sound, the timing in the arrangement, the story: virtuosity is not about fast notes and runs, but about the here above. x
6:30 is where absolute respect and admiration conjures up intense listening that could make you forget where you are and miss your cue.. (been there) His solo on "Yes or No" from "JuJu" is the best ever! Feed it into a computer and expect a perfect mathematical equation.
What Wayne has, as both a soloist and a composer, is the ability to fascinate, to open up the heart and the imagination of the listener, to take him on a journey of discovery. Whether a ballad or a burning tempo, whether screaming or in a soft whisper, he has the total intensity of focus that comes from courage and commitment (no ego, just being totally in the moment). He's enlightened - this is what so many experience in his music. It took decades for his genius to be fully recognized, whole new generations had to be born, but finally he's in his rightful place, recognized as one of the absolute all-time greats of jazz.
wayne sounds as if he is flying by from another planet, with the JLCO being pulled along in his slipstream - wayne is the centre, around which every sound revolves and resolves ❤️
Saw Wayne a number of years ago when he was doing the duet gig with Herbie (piano & soprano sx). Unbelievable! Completely transcended any style/genre. It was just "pure music". A great master and genius, as is Herbie by the way.
The latin arrangements on Endangered Species just killed it. I love the complicity between Carlos Henriquez and Wayne Shorter when the latter falls short of breath - and bass steps in to phrase out the rest of the idea.
This has been a wonderful musical Journey it became for me in the 70s with mysterious Traveler sweetnighter and today if I would have played a remark you made it would still bring those emotional tears this has got to be one of the best musicians I've ever seen in person okay one day I'll share my Miles Davis story.Wayne shorter Joe zawinul Acuna Eckstein ( spell ✔ stinks) and Jaco live masterful.
Wayne was mijn eerste kennismaking met jazz .hij speelt met een karakteristieke sound welke je direct herkent, en mij aanspreekt. Ben volwassen geworden met zijn muziek en ben hem eeuwig dankbaar. 😊
Some interesting things going on in "Endangered Species." I think Wayne cut his solo a bit short and the band wasn't ready to continue the arrangement. You can see Wayne point to Wynton (30:52), then Wynton points back as to say, 'keep going.' Through it all everyone stays cool and Carlos saves the day in taking an unexpected solo.
Its in credible to watch the young cats really enjoying this Master. You can see clearly the respect love and joy to be able to even sit in that chair and play this music.
Shout out for the gorgeous lead trumpet playing! Wayne is as close to Miles' musical ethic as anyone ever came. Wynton on tpt2... speechless.. so gorgeous. Great music. period.
i had to rewind and listen to the sax soli on 'Yes or No' twice... actually three times. sounds so great voiced with the soprano playing lead. and then coming out of that the trombones in unison sounds so refreshing
Wayne and Sonny Rollins are the greatest saxophonists still living! PERIOD!! The 8 dislikes are demons from Charlottesville, VA. And make no mistake, Marcus Printup (I believe he's the musical director for LCJ) is pure nitro on trumpet!!!
Flawless playing, but please God, give this great band some dirt, some pain, some grit, some crying love, some agony and loss and love - kinda like REAL LIfe itself! I wonder what maestro Marsalis thinks about Sun Ra, who’s band blew the roof off wherever they played? Respect, GB
The beauty of music is that every genre has its heros. Take a look at Clarence Clemons who has passed now. Left huge imprint on rock music. Rock and jazz players should never be compared to each other. There is not a Best saxophonist.
Wayne Shorter is incredible but The JALC Band is very safe and white bread sounding. I am sure all of these guys are well-educated jazz musicians and perhaps that's the problem. Everything they play is so precise and clean like a museum.
i did all 3 nights.you are correct. not because it's his music.he had the most adventurous solos, where there were\ good solos by the others, i felt like they were read off a chart...Wayne has perfectly captured the sound of a bird flying, graceful, soaring, majestic....fly on brother, sweetest man made sound, ever.....
Christian McBride's got the same problem with his big-band, God I wish guys like Art Blakey and Lee Morgan were still around, expression is so important to this music.

Wonderful... Thank you for sharing. Rest in peace, Wayne.
I am inspired every time I hear this man speak or play.
Su majestad, Wayne Shorter R.I.P. gracias por tu música, llena nuestro universo !

Most incredible live music experience I've ever had was seeing the Wayne Shorter Quartet.
ditto
Same here

I didn't know he won any Grammys!! Didn't realize he was ever recognized for his work!! Guess I've been under a rock
A very fittig tribute to. Wayne
17:58 Oh, that run wayne did was quite something. I love those fast runs out of the blue, Cannonball also was great at that.
i love Wayne Shorter.
I did not want this video to end! Supreme Musicianship 👌🏿👏🏿👏🏿
Greetings from Uganda 🇺🇬👊🏿🖤

That' right
With and beyond your music, your presence continues to be felt in our hearts.
Great watching the Sax section soaking in Wayne's playing. Surprised they didn't forget their queues, lol!
Wayne hits me every time again and again! His solos, especially on "Contemplation" is unbelievable! Truly a master!
the respect of the orchestra for the great musician, everyone standing and applauding
The master of tone, harmony, mood.
Saw Wayne a number of years ago when he was doing the duet gig with Herbie (piano & soprano sx). Unbelievable! Completely transcended any style/genre. It was just "pure music". A great master and genius, as is Herbie by the way.
That Bass solo was amazing
My hero.
The latin arrangements on Endangered Species just killed it. I love the complicity between Carlos Henriquez and Wayne Shorter when the latter falls short of breath - and bass steps in to phrase out the rest of the idea.
Absolutely Great ❤️🙏

thank you Wayne shorter you inspire my life
This is so great seeing my hero Wayne Shorter having fun playing music!!!! Required viewing for all the stiff-assed so called stars....
Such as Wynton M...?
You are kiddin' right?!
Jazz improvisation awakens the unconscious minds of artists to the conscious mind of the listener.
Wayne RIP to your next journey.
It's Wayne's World, We just live in it.

nice.... cool you pointed that out
Especially playing at the Lincoln center in Washington DC.
Gone music not to be forgotten, rip.
Good call! Magic of Jazz often happens when moments take an unexpected turn!
Pro,s improvise literally and figuratively.
the admiration that the other musicians pay to WS while he plays is wonderful. Moving.
Wayne's solo on "Contemplation" is captivating. Understated, but maintains your interest from beginning to end. The band is captivated too.
An absolute gem...:-)))
Its in credible to watch the young cats really enjoying this Master. You can see clearly the respect love and joy to be able to even sit in that chair and play this music.
Wayne is incredible...beautiful solo on yes or no...wow!!
What a great performance and learning experience. Thank you KMHD Jazz Portland.
Joe pass sounds
A true genuine music genuinely music that cannot be duplicated.
Wow...a genius and a Master! Lot of love
Shout out for the gorgeous lead trumpet playing! Wayne is as close to Miles' musical ethic as anyone ever came. Wynton on tpt2... speechless.. so gorgeous. Great music. period.
RIP thanks for the memories
Thank You!
Nice concert, a well deserved tribute.

I am painting a canvas to the music right now!
Marvelous music. Thank you Wayne and band!
Damn, this is so good !!!
Rest in Peace you wondelfull inspiration!!
Amen
i had to rewind and listen to the sax soli on 'Yes or No' twice... actually three times. sounds so great voiced with the soprano playing lead. and then coming out of that the trombones in unison sounds so refreshing
Just “pleasure” to listen to. Beyond al complexities instrumental, arrenges, harmony , whatever.... pleasure takes place.

RIP Wayne Shorter 3/2/23
Man missed Pharoah Sanders.
Rest in Power
Still got it, still challenging himself and his audience. My favourite saxophonist.
Yes and No? Well i say YES YES AND YES!
The Genius -Wayne Shorter
awesome..amazing..beautiful..the master!..tq for sharing!
When I think about it, that album "Ju Ju" has a nice mix of original and more traditional approaches. House of Jade is so nice....
Yooo that sax soli is straight from Branford Marsalis’s solo at the JVC jazz festival at Newport in ‘87!!
Everybody on the stage just wants to see and hear the master play! Wonderful recording!
Carlos Henriquez plays a fine bass solo on “Endangered Species”
Mitch Kahle yeah he’s great , I hear lots of lefaro in him , always groovin!
The comping in the arrangements are chilly cool 😎
Thanks so much for sharing this! Amazing!
love it.... and that Wynton solo is soo beautiful!! The whole band - what a magical sound
that one tenor player just grilling wayne the whole time that would be me lol!!!
I was wondering what they were laughing about.
CanadianGamer Dude they were laughing because he played off script Ahh bending what was written before him dig it?
My old Vegas friend is playing third trumpet. Kenny Rampton.
Flawless playing, but please God, give this great band some dirt, some pain, some grit, some crying love, some agony and loss and love - kinda like REAL LIfe itself! I wonder what maestro Marsalis thinks about Sun Ra, who’s band blew the roof off wherever they played? Respect, GB
The most gifted musician alive..
Magnificent!!!!!!!!!
On an unrelated note, what is that shirt he's wearing? It's so cool
Nice kick 13:01, beautiful.
AWESOME!
magnificent...
Legend
Lovely

What is there not to like??? Good as it gets.....
Ryan Kisor is in band too wow 👽
Man I love Wynton when he's just another cat on the stand Yeah . Dan Nimmer huh? Sax Soli at 12:26
20:10 Look at all of those “students” paying attention to the master teacher
Not too bad for a very expensive production. Question is in the end do you recall melody or anything? But lot of people dig it so good enough
I am a keyboardist and immensely has been influenced by his sax playing.
Shorter's fingers are also applauded by the audience, or applause is how Shorter brings the whole orchestra to a clown, yet it is also art
❤
What's the music on the intro?
Sometimes when great improvisers over saturate space they may find more
need to self-medicate their rush after performing..
20:09 "C Minor" ??
すごい です ね!!!
What is the name of the song of the intro (min. 00:35)?
E.S.P., another one of Wayne's composition.
