I was a kid when this episode aired. I was being abused at home at the time and this was a major factor in my decision to never stop talking about it. I can't tell you how many people have approached me online and in real life to thank me for being open and vulnerable because my story gave them the courage to tell theirs, or even just made them feel validated in being traumatized by what happened to them. it's ALWAYS worth it to say something, especially when you don't know who might hear it that desperately needs to

U guys seem to misunderstand a lot of things here. It’s not ok she lied the captain literally has her arrested for her public recant. It was at least interference what she did. However she isn’t lying because they have physical evidence that she was indeed attacked they cannot ignore the fact there is a violent criminal on the loose. And they were right for pursuing it because another victim came forward. Angers me tho the girl lied but I disagree liars should face jail time. Maybe community service. Many criminals believe that this is all it takes to get off the hook for what they have done and her going on the news and not being punished and having victims believe they will be pressed by the police and criminals believe they only need the victim to publicly recant to get off the hook is why she was held accountable by Craiggen.
It's about the other victims, but not in the way you might think. . .you have no idea what these guys (or gals) with do to get away with things like make the victims say on a recording, write a note, send an email, get their passwords so they can email/msg as the person, etc. You and I see it as coercion and the criminal doing things to cover their tracks bc they are guilty and an admission of guilt, but the public and the people who do this are not always of the same mindset.

Yeah, that one is kind of wince-worthy. As if police departments have the power to actually watch over victims or keep dangerous people away from them. If they're in jail, maybe. But not in jail? A restraining order is just a piece of paper, and by the time you realize someone is disregarding it, you might already be dead.
I remember taking a criminology class once and it was a wakeup call for our whole class, to reflect on the reality of resources and the implication for protection. Just how many cases there are where you realize the obvious thing a victim NEEDS is basically a bodyguard, someone sitting outside their house 24/7, but there's zero chance that resource will be allocated. So everyone just knows there are constantly risks to the vulnerable going on, and has to hope that the malicious won't do what no one (in practice) is stopping them from doing.

Look, it's important for real victims to come forward and get as many rapists off the street as possible. But false allegations can be devastating on someone's life. Look at that notorious case of the false accuser in the UK, a man killed himself because of her fake allegations. There has to be some kind of accountability.
