As a McLaren 570 owner I’m disappointed that yet again the factory are pushing out cars to the press fleet that aren’t 100% fettled and ready for the onerous testing that so obviously awaits… issues with software really are unacceptable on IRIS after 10 years evolution🤔… none of this helps the “cars are fragile” reputation of McLaren within the YT and SM community.

    • @TheNobleLoyalist
      @TheNobleLoyalist ปีที่แล้ว +2

Painfully reminiscent ill-practices of another British Sportscar manufacturer, that paid the ultimate price of their recklessness... they no longer exist, sadly... A once respected manufacturer with proper British heritage, a company sized just right, just enough to still be in touch with their prospective buyers and enthusiasts, and owners on a personal level that owning one meant like it or not you bought into an actual family and friends; part of the allure for most buyers. Owning one put you closely in touch with anyone from the company, a long lost practice, or rather i should say reality of Manufacturers like Ferrari and Lamborghini, Porsche even.
Something about British made exotica that are unique enough to appeal to a very particular set of folks and enough to keep the money coming in just enough to continue its hand made construction. British built sports cars like Lotus, McLaren, TVR, Noble, etc are as delicate financially as they are constructed. Unique as they are meant to be, attracting customers who desire something different than the usual Italian or German offerings.
Jonathan - I am referring to TVR by the way. The ill practices I keep hearing and reading about from owners of McLaren are becoming undeniably frequent and were the same practices that eventually killed TVR.

I understand that it’s their bread-and-butter model, so they don’t want to risk much design wise, but a fresher approach would have been good.

      @@ChR0nos_7734 The important difference:
The 911 is 1 iconic model of a otherwise very diverse lineup!
McLarens models are - except for some limited halo projects - basically indistinguishable for the average bystander. Is it some 6xx, 7xx, 5xx?! Which model year?!
In addition even powertrain etc. are repetitive.

You may copy/paste some entry level Golf to a certain degree, but otherwise have to evolve or reinvent.
Porsche created a Boxster, a Cayenne, a Carrera GT etc.

I like this new breed of 6 cylinder PHEV supercars, and I can appreciate the Artura is not as fast as the 296 and that's fine. I feel that abandoning the alphanumeric scheme right when it's finally something everyone is used to is confusing and opening themselves up to criticism. It's hard to tell where this car stands in the lineup so if its performance doesn't match superior competition, people will criticize it because they don't understand where it is in the lineup. I worry it'll do more to hurt the brand than help it.

It's a beautiful evolution of the current McLaren line-up. Unfortunately it doesn't inspire excitement like Ferraris and Lambos do, with their louder engines and exhausts. Nevertheless, I'd love to test drive one some day. Thanks for the great video!

Rear end styling now pretty much resolved and has that McLaren signature.
Not convinced they’ve achieved the same at the front.
Still, this seems professional overall and shows good progress.

This is far from a 'great sounding' engine imo - but there's one thing that I have to applaud McLaren for, and it's the signature 'tone' they're able to give to ALL of their engines. Despite this being a V6 with very different harmonics to their previous V8 engines - it still has the same sort of characteristic change in octave as you climb the revs. This might seem like silly praise - but 90% of modern cars are so muffled that they just sound like 'a noise' rather than a 'build up of mechanically rotating power' (for a lack of a better description) - and I think it's worth taking the time to mention on how mcLaren's efforts to actually pay attention to such a vital aspect of the driving experience do not deserve to go unnoticed.

For a manufacturer with it's roots in racing, and being all about the driving experience, I'm surprised once again that there are ZERO buttons on the steering wheel. I like to keep my hands on the wheel while doing all manner of things that Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini, Aston, AMG etc. let you do whilst driving. Why doesn't McLaren? Could it be their unique relationship with electronics?
A spyder version of this (with buttons on the steering wheel) is a car I would consider.

I would never buy a McClaren. Love the looks and the sound of them, but they just have so many problems. Henry does a great job of revealing the issues they had during this review. My question is why would McClaren release a car that they know has issues? Why haven't all of those issues been addressed as opposed to them offering longer warranties? McClaren needs to hire Porsche and learn a thing or two about releasing a car that is perfect when the buyer buys it.

The #1 problem with this car is it doesn't have a Hypercar above it to establish the prestige of the platform.
30 years ago the XJ220 was a record breaking car when it released so the V6 Turbo was justified, likewise the new Mercedes runs an F1 V6 and we know it's all absolute top spec, but here McLaren is just releasing a mid-range car into a sea of mid-range cars with the same specs.

Hybrid supercars are fine, but turbo supercars just make no sense-- if you're buying a turbocharged car as an enthusiast, the turbo is a HUGE part of the experience. That's why we love blow off valves so much (or the lack of one, respectively). Supercars are about drama-- if you're buying one, chances are you want either a sky-high rev limit and a lotta music coming out the back, or you want something like a 930 which is all lag, then ALL the torque in the world. These modern supercars are just fast-- they make zero noise and they're too insulated.
Call me crazy, but I'd honestly rather have a hot hatch and a TON of cash in my pocket over one of these.
