Battle brothers militia vs the other campaigns. Players: “what’s the difference between the militia and everyone else for the sound quite hard to play.” Answer: “ Simple numbers, and more people to kill your enemies!”
It is funny the whole peasant militia background is they decided to make a company with only lowborns because they were tired of being treatred as disposable fodder by the nobles.
I'd like to have the no-nose guy named after me. Also, according to some people I talked to, the Indebted dudes in the South are good picks for the milita.
Sometimes some games are just not winable, dont worry about stepping back from the deserteur playthrough. Its supposed to make fun and it was fun watching you. Apart from the disadvantage of the noble house hating you, how did you like the desetreur origin "skill" of always acting first in the verry first round of combat? I always considered it highly situational (like for example when the babarians use their dogs, you can act before the dogs act...) But often the First turn is more used to position oneself, or just let the enemy come to one, so one just wait, till the enemy acted, to take that information for positioning. But at a different view, Im happy seeing a peasent milita try. Thats my favourite. quite weak in the early game and you will loose many brothers, like you noticed. You might find yourself hiring really "bad" characters, just to have someone to sacrifice, so one more primising brother survives the day. But they can be quite decent, even without hedge knights etc. And its really rewarding, when your "dirty peasents" get these noble down from their high horse ^^ One of the biggest problems are in my opinnion, that only poachers and to some degree shepperds are good choose for archers, so finding a good one can be really difficult. As you noticed, you need to pay a lot more attention to whats happening, so maybe the combat speed up mod will make some things more difficult. Either way, I think this will be a great series. To your question about good first perks: student is never a waste, you get lvl ups fast and the skill point is not lost, you will get it back at lvl 11.
I agree that the trait is very situational. I don't find much use for it as I usually wait for the enemy to attack my lines. I do like the "idea" behind deserters. I feel like it all depends on the seed.

Peasant militia, where everything is an upgrade. 😂
I usually just kick out 3-4 dudes at the beginning to start with a smaller group.
Really enjoyed this playthrough. Lots of upgrades and improvements.

Good leaders care about all their soldiers, you monster. 😁😉
I care for my men but I also keep a heathy professional distance so when I order them to their slaughter I can sleep at night.
