    I think that Hong Quan style (xiao hong quan & da hong quan forms) was the basis for the development of most of Shaolin styles. In modern Sanda boxing, this style is also a base for techniques that are practicing.

    • @VanishingNomad
      @VanishingNomad ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you go back further, you find Tai Tzu Changquan. There are 6 sets of it.
      The style was a collaboration between Shaolin and the Emperor Zhao Kuang Yin.
      The first 3 sets came from before he was Emperor. The most famous of the system, the 32 posture Tai tzu Chang Quan, is a mix of his stuff, and those of his top Generals. The next set comes from General Han Tong and so on, etc...
      Xiao Hong Quan, and its corresponding Da Hong Quan came later, but are essentially based on that.
      600 years later a 6+ road Da Hongquan was also developed from the notes Zhao Kuang Yin had left to the Shaolin library when he was alive. That is a different set than the one that matches Xiao Hong Quan, but its all part of the same major system.
      Today, Xiao Hongquan is arguably the best place to start that particular line of Shaolin Kung Fu. This is why its known as the Mother of Hongquan.

      Trust me, that guy is all internal. You can't move like that without having a strong, internal practice. He's hitting with thought, not muscle. It doesn't have to look soft and flowy like Tai Chi to be considered "internal." That term just means you are using your thoughts to create power, by feeling powerful from within. That dude looks tiny on the outside, but on the inside he's a giant. If he hits you, I know it will feel like you're being hit by a giant and not a person with a small frame. That's the definition of internal, right before our eyes.

      @@Kamawan0 well hitting with thought?? You cannot hit with thought can you really? That's another mystical concept sold to the western world. To prove it I will stand in front of you exactly 6 inches from your closest body part and without moving I will give you 500 bucks if you can hit me with your 💭 thought but if you can't you give me 1000.

      @@truthserum9456 For the love of god. Bro. You THINK the powerful thought, and THEN strike the opponent to generate more force. It's a combined effort of mind and muscle, which is the true version of internal. Get a grip, instead of jumping down someone's throat because you're intentionally misreading a YT comment. You didn't even read the entire thing I wrote, you stopped immediately at the second sentence and stupidly hit reply.

I am lucky to have someone like this, if he didn't practice, I would be extremely worried. I admire his self-discipline, I respect him more for it.

    I think this form is very well done and it's very powerfully and beautifully done. There is no reason to compare it to other forms of martial arts nor is it appropriate to question its efficacy as a fighting force. Just appreciate it for what it is and what it can do for the practitioner. By now , we all know that forms don't necessarily translate or transfer into actual combat.

    • @Kamawan0
      @Kamawan0 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They do, they just have to be translated. If you take them in their absolute presentation, you will have useless motions. However, if you adapt a movement from a form and think of it as an idea that you can mold to a situation, then you will start to see what these old things are actually for, besides just keeping the body in good condition!

      Keep practicing and practice some more, and you will see the grace and calmness even throughout such a speed of performance. It's just working with momentum really; that's why you learn how to coil your body and work with circles and 8-shapes. Simply feel free to extend yourself with all gained force, and you'll be amazed how powerful you truly are. That's how you learn to control your power, too.
      Good practice to you!

      In the Shaolin Temple, Sanda (kickboks + throws) and Classical Boxing are part of the training, so clowns who think they are something special in mma sport would not easily deal with the Shaolin masters. The Chinese champion of the mma sport called the "Northern Tigger" is proud to say that he spent some time training in the Shaolin. He was a champion at age 42.

      @@charlesbetancourt7337 Man, this guy would probably just flip over the rushing idiot and then destroy him in 30 seconds. People don't understand that kung fu is designed to be a circular system meant to DEFEAT your opponent.
      The real masters even know pressure point attacks that can blind, paralyze or even kill someone with a single proper hit. This is a martial art that was designed to be used in actual ancient warfare - which is why it also has so much focus on all kinds of hand-held weapons. It was never meant to be used in a controlled way.

In it a shaolin monk is sparring, supposedly, an ex ufc fighter of 2018. The mma guy fakes high and attempts a " bullrush ground and pound ' but instead gets kicked in the mouth with a 'side shovel leg kick' straight up from the ground and lands on his butt. It's the basic techniques that work. You should check it out.
