Love the new setup! I'd invest in an extended battery grip for sure! It gives you more surface area to hold onto and allows you to have two batteries instead of just the one in camera body. You'll forget you even have batteries in your camera it lasts so long!
Can't go wrong with the Canon 70D. I actually used them last year when I took a video production class at my school, got pretty familiar with the settings and it was quite the camera. I, myself, use a standard HD camcorder and my GoPro for video recording and my phone for taking photos. Not the best setup but it sure is convenient. If I ever get serious about making videos which will probably be within the next 2 years or so, I'll invest in a setup like you have. And like others said, having 2 cameras wouldn't hurt at all, multiple angles is always nice if you need it!
Adam always remember FFE when filming. Framing, focus, and exposure. Get those three right and you are set. Also if it's to bright when filming adjust the iris and maybe get a ND filter if need be.
I would recommend getting a uv filter for you lens. It will protect the lens from scratches or breakage from a drop. Easier to keep clean and cheaper to replace the filter than the lens.
Now i want to get better lenses for my dslr after watching this. Thanks Adam. Lol. Great looking camera and lenses. Can't wait to see what you produce.
I spoke too soon but I love the vlogs from Casey. good to see you move in the direction. great investment. can't wait to see improvements in you videos.
Hey Adam! Because of this video I literally went to store and bought myself the exact camera! It's amazing! Thank you for sharing this video! The camera itself is amazing haha a bit pricey but soo worth it
Congrats on getting some new gear! Casey is definitely one of the best on youtube. I would keep all your old gear - not only can you get different angles, but having back up gear in the event you need to repair something would be wise.
Good choice on the 70D. Flip-out screen, and if you buy some STM Canon lenses, you'll get awesome autofocus. It's possible that your 18-55 is STM. Casey uses a very similar setup (but with an STM lens). The other popular vlogging camera is the canon G7X, which would give you a better production value than the iPhone, but would conversely lose you the uploadability. One way around this, would be to get an SD - iPhone connector, then you could shoot on the G7X, and then transfer it to the iPhone and upload that way.
Also note that the lens you just got is a 'variable fstop' lens. The more you zoom in, the more light you lose. so you'll be better off not zooming in too much in low light.
Just leave it on Program mode P on your select wheel if you want point and shoot usability. The camera will adjust the aperture based on the light and sets pretty much the correct F stop and shutter speed.
Take a look at the microphone settings in the camera and fix the decibel level. It usually has a meter u can see just make sure that as you talk through the rode mic that the meter doesn't go all the way up to the red color keep it under yellow haha. That will get rid of the static sound lol 😀
Yea I just started watching Casey, bc Jesse Wellens met up with him while in NYC and did that skiing in NY video, now Jesse, he's really skilled when it comes to videos and editing... He makes their vlogs look like movies! But that's just him... So if you've ever watched BFvsGF vlogs you'll know what I'm talking about. You have come a long way, and I'm so excited for a new adventure with this new equipment, I know it will be great! I personally have a Nikon D70, it doesn't have video capabilities, but it's one of the best cameras that Nikon ever made, I always take pictures in RAW for best outcome, but a pain when you have to convert the pictures to jpeg. :(
I have one of those Kit Cat clocks identical to yours (looking at it right now). Got it for Christmas years ago. Doesn't work, but it's too cute not to hang.
The 18-135 is a fantastic lens. It has image stabilization and ultra fast auto focus, especially with the 70D. This is because the 70D has special live autofocus for video and when paired with lense that have "stm" focusing technology it is silent and fast. When you're not using the wide angle lense I definitely recommend using the 18-135. Also i don't know if you are familiar with reddit? (its an online forum type place) But they have an excellent filmmaking community with lots of resources for newbies. Just search reddit filmmaking and reddit videography and you will find it! Love the content and excited to see what will come from this investment. PS I also have the 70D and I love it so let me know if you have any questions about the camera!
Congratulations on your equipment don't sell any of it... Keep it use it you can shoot at the same time with 2 cameras 2 different angles different sizes you use one for close-ups and you use one for a master shot. It would be perfect for the woo studios. You have enough equipment Adam that you can shoot your own independent film or maybe Adam the woo Disneyland documentary that would be cool! You always inspired me 👻
Congrats on the new Camera bro! Casey Niestat makes some great videos man. You have good taste and you can sure learn a lot from how he edits, etc. He has some skills worthy of emulation. I've used a 7D for a long time and they rock! looking forward to some hot new videos!
Adam, I am so happy for you! (getting the new Canon 70D, including a 10-22mm Wide Angle Lens) "Well, the Canon 70D's video autofocus is the best yet from a DSLR. No, it's nowhere near as fast as it is for SLR still shots, but as video goes, it's the first I've noticed that does a decent job of tracking reasonable motion. I'm astounded at how smooth it looks as shot in whatever light was there. The 70D does an awesome job of identifying faces, locking-on and focusing. The aperture varied, looking to be about f/2.8-f/8 most of the time, shot with the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8. If shot with the 18-135mm STM or another silent-focus STM lens, the audio wouldn't have the chattering from the lens focusing and might focus faster, too. The most important thing for live-view shooting, along with smooth AF, is that you can simply tap the live-view LCD to pull focus from one subject to the next if you want. Tap a face and it focuses there, and tap another face (or the object of a conversation) and it focuses there. Once something gets tapped, it does its best to track it in and out, up and down and left and right as it moves around. (In demo videos, the 70D operated all by itself finding faces and focusing.) It is state-of-the-art in DSLR video AF today. DSLRs have much larger sensors than camcorders or iPhones, so they have to move much bigger optics inside much bigger lenses much further to change focus. The 70D's video AF does track moving objects, and like all AF systems, it has its limits as to just how close you can get how fast before it loses lock. Camcorders and iPhones have their limits, too." Enjoy, your marlevous new Canon 70D, and 10-22mm Wide Angle Lens! :-) Cheers! P.S. I'd add the wonderful 18-135mm STM. It's sharp, covers every focal length, and focuses silently for shooting videos. Thx!
awesome dudster, thatl be rad... so I think you've seen im from old Clermont florida... worked at Magic Kingdom in florida for yrs , and 2 weeks ago, for first time ever I got to go to Disneyland, it was a place I never thought id see, a dream, I teared as I entered lol. I had hoped to see ya... space mountain star wars style was amazing, saw Hollywood next day. take care and hello from your old stomping grounds Adam. ps I wore my Join Me Shall You tshirt , planned that out for my adventure day.
Hey Adam - I've got two of the Rodes and they've worked well and are quite rugged. One recommendation I'd give is to look for a set of the replacement "rubber bands" in advance as that's the only thing that's broke on me, and generally not at great times. I keep sets with me in my camera bag now just in case, and they're so small it doesn't add anything in terms of bulkiness. Dead cats may also help with (wind) noise and are pretty cheap.
I suggest to keep all your gear. It is always good to have a spare, and as mentioned in a previous comment, you can shoot at different angles to have a multiple-camera view. It will give you a much more professional looking result.
if you want to work out how to get the best focus on multiple things, learn how to use and set the aperture before you start filming, there are loads of guides online that can help you out.
If I were you I'd hang on to the t3i. Especially if you're setting up a studio .That way you can have two different angles. As far as your audio issues I'd upload Magic lantern onto the camera, it gives you far more flexibility in your recording.
Haunted Hallway! I have that clock--so jealous, got mine on Amazon. Don't you just love it? I like thrift Stores too. When in Florida check out he Neighborhood Thrift on S. Orange and the giant Goodwill on OBT. Happy Valentine's Day. Take yourself out and see Deadpool..on my way to Cinemark right now. G'nite!
Nice camera hey Adam. I had one that I took for a trip to India a while back and sold it not long after getting back. Didn't find myself using it so sold it not too far off what I bought it for. Sold the Rode microphone I had for it too with the dead cat from an American company.
Adam, have you considered doing interviews of interesting people? With the way you have the camera set up pointing at an empty couch, the idea came to me. I think you would be a great interviewer. Just an idea.
Adam I'm very surprised you didn't say anything about that clock technically being a Back to the Future relic, since a similar one appears in the opening scene of the first film.
the best advice for a dslr camera is to pick one person on TH-cam that teaches about filming an stick to just that person or you will become overwhelmed an just give up..for setting an stuff I watched Tony Northrup he helped alot about overexposure an iso an all them numbers deal..
Dude!! That the camera I have! Its simple awesome. Congrats! You couldn't get a better equipment. I am happy so see that u r using an external microphone too, I don't have that , but I am sure your videos are going to be awesome! Enjoy my friend!!! :)
adam if you dont get a decent offer on your camera maybe you could do a fan give away maybe save a personal message on the camera for the winner, , a piece of youtube history! just a thought!
adam if you do decide to sell the t3i let me know. im a cannon fan have a ton of lenses from my SLR's I have an EOS rebel SLR but need a video cam and new they are a bit over my budget. like I said I dont need the lens so if you decide to sell and I agree you should probably keep it, let me know.
Great camera. Until you get some practice the auto settings are fine. Mostly its lighting that is the issue in most videos. A lot of people have washed out videos because their is too much light. Some have grain like you did in this video. I would recommend shooting a 10 second test video before your main one and see what the lighting is and adjust your ISO accordingly or just pick a better angle where the light is more complimentary or add a light if the image is too grainy. Just practice. You'll get it.

Like the camera you are now "owning." Great stuff. Don't think I'll make an offer on the old camera though; I am much far behind you on this sort of thing and will stick with my tiny camera and phone I guess. Like my namesake "klock!"
Your energy is contagious!
Oh my stars! That ending! Adam & Clock = OTP.
Great choice in new camera, Adam! That thing rocks...congratulations fine sir!!!
Your place is looking good, Adam! I like the way you shop!!
the NEW camera looks Amazing Adam! its not in HD on my computer, but it looks like its in HD, that's how good ur camera is
I would be interested in the T3i. Your new setup looks great!
Love the new setup! I'd invest in an extended battery grip for sure! It gives you more surface area to hold onto and allows you to have two batteries instead of just the one in camera body. You'll forget you even have batteries in your camera it lasts so long!
Also...your Arnold Swartzeneggar impersonation ....EXCELLENT!!!! Please do more of Arnold, in your vlogs ....thank you!😊
I agree with Mr. X, don't sell the T3i, you can always use it for other projects.
Excited to see the new gear at work! You should do interviews by the fireplace! "I think it's a fireplace shot"
Yep -Casey is awesome. Nice purchase Adam.... gonna be great.
NICE CHOICE 70D IS WHOOOLICIOUS......

+Christian Roche yeah hes one of the best

Awesome Camera Adam! Great Investment! Look into getting a 50mm Lens, They are AMAZING in low light! Perfect for Video too!
Looks great Adam!, can't wait for new videos this year!.
Nice camera choice! That is the one I have and I love it a lot!
Nice setup! Enjoy you're videos! Thanks
I would recommend getting a uv filter for you lens. It will protect the lens from scratches or breakage from a drop. Easier to keep clean and cheaper to replace the filter than the lens.
+Jamie Crowe good call! thanks for the tip
The pictures of your new camera came out nice and clear.
The California Clock Company still makes and sells those cute cat clocks. Look into getting a Canon STM lens for the 70D, it will make life easier!
Now i want to get better lenses for my dslr after watching this. Thanks Adam. Lol. Great looking camera and lenses. Can't wait to see what you produce.
I spoke too soon but I love the vlogs from Casey. good to see you move in the direction. great investment. can't wait to see improvements in you videos.

that kitty clock is really cool it is old school ....can't wait to some videos on that new camera ....
Cousin of Felix the cat.
20.2MP, Very very nice rig. Congrats
I was going to say that, Casey rig! Enjoy, look forward to seeing great shots.
Congrats on getting some new gear! Casey is definitely one of the best on youtube. I would keep all your old gear - not only can you get different angles, but having back up gear in the event you need to repair something would be wise.

love the new setup can't wait to see the video almost have enough money to buy a shirt !
Wow it'd be cool to have Adam the Woo's old camera!
Could always keep the Rebel and have the option of using two different angles while filming then cutting the footage together, just a thought.
+Kyle Webster heck yes!

+Metropolis TV Im thinking the same thing actually
it's a good thing you got that Adam. Still on the hunt for one to put on my Galaxy phone, in case I wanna film/review anything.
Adam, you should pick up a PowerShot SX60 HS as well, for those long zoom shots when you can't get too close to something.
We will all be your Valentine!
+Ali Smith thank you!
if you want to work out how to get the best focus on multiple things, learn how to use and set the aperture before you start filming, there are loads of guides online that can help you out.

+jerry cook after I filmed the vlog I started to think the same thing actually
Adam, you should look up the Magic Lantern Firmware. It is free and help you to stepup your cameras features for video production.
G'nite!
the new tripod has turned your camera into some type of droid i was waiting for it to start walking
I'm really thinking of selling my Canon 60D body to invest in the 70D.
The end was halarious
Nice camera hey Adam.
I had one that I took for a trip to India a while back and sold it not long after getting back. Didn't find myself using it so sold it not too far off what I bought it for.
Sold the Rode microphone I had for it too with the dead cat from an American company.
wise choice on your camera pick Adam. If you want to get more acquainted with Camera I bet your local College has some night courses on Photography.
I got that Rode mic as well.. but I also recently got a Sony 4K camcorder and the mic attachment wont fit on it, which is pretty lame.
keep your lenses. also get your self a uv filter to protect your lens. especially if your going into the desert, dust etc. also get a wireless remote.
the best advice for a dslr camera is to pick one person on TH-cam that teaches about filming an stick to just that person or you will become overwhelmed an just give up..for setting an stuff I watched Tony Northrup he helped alot about overexposure an iso an all them numbers deal..
We have the DVD of HOHH with Vincent Price. C'mon that's right, look into my eyes. You need some Arnold props.
Dude!! That the camera I have! Its simple awesome. Congrats! You couldn't get a better equipment. I am happy so see that u r using an external microphone too, I don't have that , but I am sure your videos are going to be awesome! Enjoy my friend!!! :)
Are you planning on visiting universal in Florida
Cool
adam if you dont get a decent offer on your camera maybe you could do a fan give away maybe save a personal message on the camera for the winner, , a piece of youtube history! just a thought!
I was wondering the other day when you bought the tri-pod if you were inspired by Casey!
adam if you do decide to sell the t3i let me know. im a cannon fan have a ton of lenses from my SLR's I have an EOS rebel SLR but need a video cam and new they are a bit over my budget. like I said I dont need the lens so if you decide to sell and I agree you should probably keep it, let me know.
Ever thought about doing voice work Adam?
YEAHHH, Ya SHOULD REALLY Check-Out DOING VOICE-OVER WORK, VERRRY SERIOUSLY ??
+BobvanKay I could see him doing some hilarious voice over work
+BobvanKay I 2nd that...
Learning a lot from this, thanks. What R U going to do with the go pro? Cool new tripod.
I'm not sure but I think Your cat clock looks like the one that was in Doc's garage in the opening of Back to the future.
Twins? Of course you're twins. You make me laugh, Adam. Another great Vlog.
That zero APR 12 months can also mean (read the small print) that if you miss a payment or you don't pay it all off in that 12 months, that a pre determined % rate instantly applies to the purchase so do the math and know what it's going to take each month to pay it off and make dang sure it's done in that time.
I work at a veterinary office and they have the same cat clock except ours is yellow!
Hey Adam....Please No Zoom on Old Dudes Taking a Weez in Abandoned Buildings......
Pardon my French, but that's a dope ass camera rig
Look into insuring your camera gear. It only costs like 10-20 bucks a YEAR.
Have fun with your new TOYS! Oops, I mean your professional video documentary equipment!
the 14th is tomarrow Sunday
Your camera set up totally reminds me of Casey too XD
wows, where did you find the kitty?I have been looking for one.
Like the camera you are now "owning." Great stuff. Don't think I'll make an offer on the old camera though; I am much far behind you on this sort of thing and will stick with my tiny camera and phone I guess. Like my namesake "klock!"
move the couch, and make sure thats dry,,, sweet Camera,, , and I have always wanted that cat clock, so,, are you keepint the old Cannon? or selling??
+drfalcon4102 good call . will do !
