    A nice collection! You’re right, these are much more traditional than Böker or GEC knives. That doesn’t make them better or worse, but just more traditional. These are pinned, not riveted, and the liners are dished, not flat. However, I believe that the blades are now all cut from sheet, rather than forged, and mostly CNC ground. They’re really nice and very collectible for reasonable money. Certainly that’s why I collect them. They are, as I’m sure you know, very addictive! Great to see all of yours, thank you!

    I'm a big Sheffield knife fan/collector so needless to say I enjoyed having a look at you collection! There are so many Sheffield knife makers to collect but the bulk of my collection is made up with A.Wrights and G.Wostenholms,so I'm waiting for you to add a Wostenholm to yours....

      I've been contemplating a Michael May for some time now but I'm unsure of the quality. I've heard some people say that they've had problems and I notice Paddy said he no longer has his. What do you reckon, are they worth me trying or give them a miss?

    • @ianrankin1293
      @ianrankin1293 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I have 3 M Mays and I love them! The only grumble I have is that on one of them the tang stamp is partly hidden,but I think he has resolved that issue now. My most recent purchase was a Clayton Barlow with cherry covers and as Paddy would say it is stunning! My lambsfoot with bocote covers was about £50 less than the Clayton and it also gorgeous ,so I dont have a problem recommending M. May to you Ed!

      @@ianrankin1293 Thanks Ian. I think I'll probably get one. I also liked the look of the lambsfoot in Bocote and also the one with the odd shaped handle ( I've temporarily forgotten the model name, ergonomic??).
      So they might well be my starting point. Cheers.👍

    A nice variety there. I have to agree that the AW Lambsfoots are the best blade shape ( of the different manufacturers).I really like the sharp angle of the blade. And I also agree with Slick who has said previously that the Senator is his favourite shape. It's mine too. Unfortunately for some reason that I just can't explain I really don't like the clip point blade of the Barlow's and yet as you say they are the most historic. Perhaps I'm odd.
    By sheer coincidence whilst writing this I've just been sent an email saying that two AW's I've ordered have been posted today. Woo hoo!
    Keep 'em coming.👍

    • @ed.barker7069

      @@TheKnifeRaven The ones that are being sent are a Senator in ebony and a large Lambsfoot in ebony with a large Lambsfoot in oak to follow. It's a shame that they're only using the Bog Oak for Ettricks. I'd definitely like a Lambsfoot and a Senator in that. I'm highly envious of Slick having the Moonraker exclusives that I missed. I did manage to get the Spalted Beech though. I've noticed that there's a shop in Australia with a number of AW's in various woods that aren't available here, I'm wondering what it would cost to send them back to the UK.😨😂

      @@ed.barker7069 Psst, I have a secret for you. They made the Senator in Bog Oak as a special order for "TopShelfWorldwide". It's an Aussie knife dealer, I believe. I'm thinking of getting one, so should you!

      Well, I’m not the most adept at dating knives, but I guess I could try. Unfortunately, I would have to attempt to date it solely on description, as I don’t have a public Email address or any other social media platform for image sharing. Regardless, I’ll try my best to help based on what knowledge I have. I suppose my first question is this: do you have any idea when your grandfather obtained this knife? Also, I should probably ask what kind of jack knife it is. What are the blade shapes?
      Cheers!

      Hi there and thank you! I get my M. Mays direct from Michael. Taylor's Premier Collection, I like Fendrihan.ca / Fendrihan.com A. Wright, I tend to buy either direct, or from Heinnie Haynes UK. You can get most of these brands from 'James & Company', a seller on the Forum; All About Pocket Knives. (AAPK) However, they only ship within the U.S.A. hope this helped!

    • @TheKnifeRaven
      @TheKnifeRaven  ปีที่แล้ว

      Many of those cheap Sheffield knives were from old brands that have since retired or gone under. The brands I (mostly) buy from are fairly decent and frequently expensive. Eye Witness is a good example of a quality Sheffield knife. Although make sure it says "Premier Collection", as the basic ones can be sketchy at times.
