    Ive had a very intermittent CEL on my 2012 tacoma over the years, latley ive noticed the transmission shudder, and I finally caught the CEL in time to pull a code and whaddya know p0022! I'm gonna swap this and see how this goes. You are awesome for making this video!

    Just wanted to thank you and say "Keep doing what you are doing" I have enjoyed your Making it Last!! videos. I have a 2009 Tacoma TRD Pro and was chasing the same conditions you described. I took the risk and through parts at the issue...changed both cam phase solenoid/valves and the "shudder" went away! Your description and details absolutely helped me avoid flushing a ton of money chasing this particular "ghost"! Thanks again!

      That's great! Awesome to hear it fixed another sneaky hidden issue lol. Sometimes, when i worked at the dealer, those were the things that made doing it exciting. Then, other times, it was horrible. I'm so lucky I never threw a torque convertor in it! It would have never fixed the problem. They couldn't even find it at the toyota dealer when it was new. The parameters were off just enough to adjust the timing, but not enough for the computer to sense till years down the road.

    Have flushed the transmission a few times, I will try this our to fix the TC shudder

      Good luck. This was the odd problem I found with mine. For years, it bothered me, and I ignored it, knowing the work it involved to change the torque convertor. I'm lucky I didn't it would have been done for nothing.

    My 2015 started to shake and the accelerator was acting up (loss of power). I stopped and checked engine oil and just quickly looked under hood. When I went to start it it was normal until about 1/2 a mile and it started to shake and acceleration decreased. I made it home and now I’m wondering what’s going on with it. Really stressed as this is my only vehicle at the moment.

    Very interesting. My 2006 Tacoma has the same vibration when driving at 40mph under slight acceleration. Been doing this for awhile and currently has 265k on it and no codes.

    Did this fix the p0022 & shudder still? Neither came back? My 14 v6 Tacoma just threw the same code and I DO have that same shudder around 35-40mph. Only 84k on the truck… mechanic quoted $600 to replace both sensors which I thought was expensive.. thx

    • @wjgrandcherokee
      @wjgrandcherokee  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This did fix the p0022 and the shudder. It can be numerous issues that cause shudders, though. The well-known one is the torque convertor in the transmission. I don't know where the cam timing would stay if you were to unplug the solenoid, but you may be able to do that or just replace the solenoid and see if it fixes it. If it fixes that code and you still have the shudder, i would have the trans fluid changed.

    • @Chris-nb1rt
      @Chris-nb1rt 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@wjgrandcherokee going in Monday to change trans fluid, on my truck the p0022 code actually went away on its own and hasn’t come back. I’m going to see if trans fluid helps or not, if not I’ll try doing these VVT solenoids to see if that is the issue. I’m dreading it being the TC though, shifts very smooth so I’m hoping between trying these things resolves it. Did your truck have an ever so slight rough idle before changing the vvt solenoids?

    • @wjgrandcherokee
      @wjgrandcherokee  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @Chris-nb1rt Yes a bad solenoid could definitely cause a rough idle. Chances are if the code went away it was electrical and not timing chains. These valves can definitely get weak over time. Also make sure your battery is good and the cables are clean and tight. Mine through the code with the battery getting weak.

    • @wjgrandcherokee
      @wjgrandcherokee  ปีที่แล้ว

      There was no rattle sound. Chances are you have a bad cam gear. How many miles?

    • @Celayagmc
      @Celayagmc 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @wjgrandcherokee it has 150000 miles. No codes, seems like it runs fine. I do have a tune on it. Nothing is loose. I just changed plugs, cleaned maf and throttle body. I'm wondering if it could be my trans. Very hard to hear where it's coming from and doesn't make the noise in park or neutral

    • @wjgrandcherokee
      @wjgrandcherokee  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @Celayagmc Ya, unfortunately, without hearing the noise myself, this is the most help I could give you. At that mileage, anything could be, could be a broken timing chain guide, worn tensioner, and cam actuators themselves. Make a video of it, and if you're on facebook, post it up on one of the Tacoma forums. There's Tacoma world and numerous others. Just type it in the search bar.

      I dont, this was year's ago. You would be best to have a dealer look them up and get them oem. I dont want to look them up for you and get the wrong ones. They may vary from year to year.

      I dont off the top of my head. I'd go online and look it up on Mcgeorge online toyota parts. Oem parts a little cheaper and a good reliable company. Or stop by your local dealer, I'd definitely go oem if you think this is your problem. Did it set a code? Or are you having shudder?

    • @wjgrandcherokee
      @wjgrandcherokee  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, but it took years for the computer to pick it up. The vibration problem was there for years but enough so the computer couldn't set a code. The sensor finally got weak enough to cause a more severe problem. It is actually almost stalled when the oil control valve finally went "completely bad"

    You sure it was a torque converter shudder or a misfire vibration??

    • @wjgrandcherokee
      @wjgrandcherokee  ปีที่แล้ว

      It was the cam oil control valve malfunction, just enough to throw the cam timing off. It did it for years. The only reason i found it was because of the code set i didnt even expect it to fix what i thought was torque shudder.

    Did you have vibration on idle? or only when the car was moving?

    • @wjgrandcherokee
      @wjgrandcherokee  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It was only when the vehicle was moving. Although both my tacoma and my mothers 18 Corolla idle rough at an idle in gear. They dont do it all the time but intermittently shake a bit.
