It's been a while since Jeep authorized Mitsubishi to build the Japanese version of the Jeep. I see a number of really nice examples out here in Okinawa but feel like there's actually a lot that was lost. There were only 200,000 of these Jeep made and in all kinds of forms. It was used in forestry and the military. It came both in gasoline and diesel engines being the turbo diesel the best of all of them.

I had one of the CJ3b Mitsubishis when I was in Oki from 1994-1998. So fun.

I wanted one but it was hard to find a good condition for a good price. Maybe next time.

@@StylishGreaseMonkey I paid $1500 for it. It had a blown engine, but some guys I knew helped me put a rebuild engine in it for $250.

Matthew Nielsen That was a good deal! The black one I featured on this video was in restored condition. Beautiful machines you can ride open rain or shine.

I agree, they are super easy to work on and easy to make parts at home. I've maxed out what I can ship back to the states when I leave Japan but really want one. Do you see CJ3Bs still available for grabs?

I bought my 93 Mitsubishi Jeep J53 when I was in okinawa and now it’s with me in Alabama. I get a lot of WTF looks lol.

You are awesome for bringing it back to the U.S. Does it still have all the Mitsubishi parts? I have a couple of old Broncos waiting for my return so that’s my retirement gift to myself....

@@StylishGreaseMonkey yeah I still have the original parts including a couple extra doors, sun top, transmission, whole exhaust systems, and other random parts. I just put some used 33” tires on it last week. I had it ship to Geilenkirchen, Germany in 2013 and people would stop to look at it since they never seen anything like it.

Hahaha! You're right, these old leaf springs technology is a punishment for our backs. I have a 1998 Jeep TJ and the coil springs rides so much better on and off road.
