- Nutmeg Nor'Easter is the finest of alt cycling events. Hosted by Ronnie Romance in Connecticut it is camping, eating, drinking and some really fun riding on all kinds of surfaces. Expect single track, dirt, gravel, country roads, rocks routes and new this year - gigantic puddles. All the pizza you can eat and all the friends you could hope to meet. Some of New England's finest ATB riding. One very unfortunate circumstance almost derailed us - but the chance to ride with the very real Brooklyn crew saved my weekend.

I've been following the channel for a minute or less, didn't know about this ride, but was on my own adventure that weekend, a multi-day train ride from NC to Hartford plus short bike out to friends in Bolton, CT. Hit that same cyclonic just off the train, and it was a blast and/or a soggy mess getting lost along the East Coast Greenway. My friends did not believe me when I said the ride was beautiful, but it was true. What a perfect way to immerse in Fall.

Sending Healing vibes to Erin! Had something similar happen to me a few months ago! broke my wrist on the commute from work just a few weeks after a bike tour. Just now getting back on the bike.

Nutmeg is so special! I also did the 55. The weather and camaraderie made it epic. I had no idea you were going to be there and happen to recognize you in the pizza line. Thank you so much for making these videos. They inspire me to go on more bike adventures.

Great chatting with you on Friday night at the route overview (we talked about the Dirty Dozen in Pittsburgh). Had planned on the 55 but after watching this video I'm glad I rode the 36. Had the wrong tires for that one, too, but you gotta run what you brung. Great routes and awesome people -- the rain didn't dampen anyone's spirits and it made the whole weekend even more fun.
PS - Hope Erin recovers quickly and completely!

Tim, awesome video as usual. I loved the foliage and those puddles were gargantuan! Great to see you hang out with Terry B in a more natural settings that I am used to see him. Best wishes of recovery to Erin. Also, along with taking good care of her, you may also want to give some TLC to your bearings as I suspect some of that water made it's way back to Akron :)

I accepted the weather the minute I got soaked just setting up camp on Friday. It made the next day a blast. Love your videos. I'll have to introduce myself next year.
Its always better to accept the weather for sure - though setting up in the evening is when I really wish it wasn't raining that hard.

So nice to see events like this happening. Us older folks didn't have any of these fun 'races' back in the 80's, 90's, early 2000's to even think about going to. The entire biking community has changed so drastically in the past 10-15 years to be fun first, race sort of second. I came into cycling when it was ALL about racing and nothing else. That mindset really put a damper on the fun side of riding a bike. Thanks again for these vids. It's not too late for people like me to join in and reset our old brain habits.... I never liked the 'race-only' mentality and hence never had a group of people to ride with. That can all change.... Love your vids. Hey, how about adding a little more of the bikes of some of these events? I, personally, would love to see what people are riding: old 26" mtbs to modern gravel bikes and everything in between. Just a thought.... Thanks again.
Yes - I'm glad I didn't get into cycling through racing culture. I enjoy watching racing - no desire to participate and compare expensive, mainstream bikes and skin tight clothing though.
I do want to make more "bike checks" this summer - usually I'm just out there enjoying the events and just don't want to do the work.🤠

This looks like such a fantastic event especially the non-race vibe! I feel for Erin having just recovered from a fractured foot and 8 weeks off the bike - first ride last weekend. Speedy and full recovery without issues to her! Thanks for documenting!
I'm really loving these non-race style events.
She can't even put pressure on it for 6 weeks so this will be a slow recovery. Glad you are back out there!

Ouch Erin. Had foot and ankle breaks and they hurt! That said love to hear when couples figure out one is good to go convalesce while happy other able to continue and have fun in bike ride and weekend. As always fun video, looked like a true backwoods experience! Hope ankle healing well Erin
Yes - its going to be a pretty long recovery. Surgery on Thursday seemed to go well.
It was weird to go out and have a good time but it made sense.

I can relate to the injury. I broke my arm in high school playing football. Actually, in the first 5 minutes of practice: 2 inches of water where we were warming up. You can’t stop well when it’s wet like that and you aren’t used to it yet. Fell and broke my own arm. D’oh!

I found Terry's channel in 2020 which is when I really went full in on cycling with the need to stay away from people it is an awesome way to to still have fun! Very cool that you guys are both professional photographers. He really goes in depth on some of his equipment videos which I'm sure you have watched. He is right there with Lucas in riding skills but his video skills are amazing.
I have recently found your channel and really digging the rides, especially the train track gravel cuts. I'd really like to hear and see more about that as it seems to be unique to your videos. Also absolutely love the Gunnar! I'm a big fan of Schwinn made bikes and to know you have a rigid boost frame made by Schwinn, the real Schwinn. I'm more than a little jealous of that bike!! Thanks for the great content!
I think that is when I found him too. I started watching his livestreams every morning. It was tons of fun to ride together but also nerd out in person about the gear to shoot rides and other work.
I think I have made a couple videos describing how we find our routes but in essence it is a lot of "I wonder where that path/cut goes?". ....and some Google satellite views.
I am glad I got my hands on this Gunnar - its too bad they are gone - huge loss for American built frames.

Yes, to paying to ride your bike. Organized events take a lot of work and should be rewarded. Yes, to swept-back bars on all bikes. I have swept-back mild swallow bars on my MTB and Cinelli Double Trouble bars on my daily driver - Surly Long Haul Trucker. I dislike drop bars.
The ONLY problem with that event is the temperature. My comfort zone is 85° to around 105°. I've lived on an island at latitude 8° for the past 31 years. I don't do cold or even chilly.
85! We have a heat advisory here this week as it will be approaching the 90s. Give me 60s all day long!
I still love my drop bar gravel bike - just different tools for different jobs.

Odd question: are these kind of events marked on the course so as to know where to turn? I raced triathlons through the 80s early 90s and then picked up racing mtn bikes through the 90s. And yes, paper maps only on the great divide in 2016. Are these bike computers imperative for these gravel bike events? I’m still using my old blue and white Garmin Edge 500 from 2009 ( hey, it works! No mapping,,,I’m not technologically computer savvy)
Modern bike computer or phone for sure. These kind of events are not marked - maybe a flag or ribbon here or there on the real off the beaten path stuff at the most.
If you know Terry B you must know Lucas Brunelle..Lucas and I had to go to court in Boston for a two year old TH-cam video called “Falling through the Ice,Charles River “..The case was dismissed but it still cost me $1000💸
