UPDATE: I have retested this mod on the 6th and 7th gens with a higher quality pair of earphones and it is now working properly! So the range issues I was having were probably just due the cheap earbuds I was using in the video. I tested it using the KZ AZ09 and it was getting around 5 - 6m of range before the connection was dropping.
I ordered one of your kits for my Ipod Classic 7, the kit worked perfectly! Pro tip for the 6 and 7 owners, if you file down some of the tabs on the top case, it will make it easier to take apart if it ever needs serviced again.
The type c mod has been around for awhile, most commonly done on the 1st gen ipod nano. It's just one of the more difficult mods due to the pitch of the 30 pin connector's solder points because if you aren't carefully you can cause accidental damage to the board.
I am considering buying one. Does it pair with car stereo or other bt devices other than earbuds? I'd primarily use it for use on speakers, not earbuds. Thanks!
Dude, Ive just received my order and it works great. you brough up that you might include the taptic engines in the future. Im planning on adding one to my ipod. the one ive picked is one from an iPhone 12 MIni. Do you have and advice for someone who isnt a pro at the soldering iron?
Hello, I purchased the bluetooth kit that was already assembled. Did the headphone jack have the wolfsen dac with it? Or is it a generic headphone jack?
I wanted to ask you: will this pair bluetooth to anything? Such as a car stereo? I am honestly very curious! I have several and want to see if I can convert it to bluetooth to use on my car seeing as my music library was lost in a serious virus attack some years ago. Let me know!
If I purchase a slim 5th Gen 256GB with the upgraded battery and SSD from your website, will your Bluetooth kit work with it? I can’t find on the website if you use iflash quad
The ready to install kit is very nice, easy to pair, and sounds good. The slim back fits with an iflash quad with no issue. My only disappointment is the signal is rather poor. It's not strong enough of a connection for me to get consistent sound in my pocket or even if i turn my head the wrong way.
I am experiencing the same poor reception. Constantly cuts out with the slightest movement. Concept is good, reception is unacceptable. Wasted money on this.
I have tested it again with a higher quality pair of earphones on the 7th Gen just then and it is working properly! So the range issues I was having were probably just due the cheap earbuds I was using in the video.
This upgrade kit specifically will not fit on the 4th gen but definitely you can install this bluetooth board in a 4th gen, i will probably make a video doing it in the future i just dont have any 4th gens at the moment.
@partspluspods3689 This BT board branding is very confusing. Does it transmit BT 4.1? Or does it transmit BT 5.3? The version you mention (KCX_BT_EMITTER v1.7) seems to only be BT 4.3???
As far as i am aware it is 4.1. Thats what i have put on the product page on my website. Some of the aliexpress listings say 5.3, but most say 4.1 so i would just assume it is 4.1.
I think I need clearer instructions on how to pair the bluetooth to my earbuds. I got the pre-made kit that you sell and everythings installed, but I can't pair the bluetooth to anything. (light turns on when I turn on the switch, so I know it's functioning in some way)
Once it is switched on put your earbuds into pair mode, then press the switch in. There is a pair button mounted behind it that is used for connecting the earphones. It should connect after around 10 seconds or so. The light will also change from blinking quickly to blinking more slowly when it is connected if that helps with troubleshooting, although its not visible when the iPod is closed. If it isn't connecting make sure your bluetooth earbuds aren't connected to anything else. If they are still connected to your phone it wont pair. If you are still having issues please send me a message through my website and i can help you out.
hey, I’m thinking of buying a bluetooth module kit from you, and was wondering if you could answer a few questions: 1. is the bluetooth sound a good quality? Like i know it will never be good as wired, but does it sound as good as it does paired to an iphone, for example? 2. the kit on your site removes hold switch functionality. how sensitive are the ipods clickwheel buttons? if i remove this functionality will the ipods buttons skip songs or change volume or whatever if i for example go for a walk with it in my pocket for example thanks
I have both, one limiting thing is the metal back cover that push down the signal level, maybe in the future they have to consider a plastic cover like moonlit or an hole behind that leave the signal out better, there was another kit that has a very good back cover well realized but I’ve never seen after because the seller close the production,so I use both but if I have to chose I prefer the moonlit, yes isn’t cheap but has usb-c plastic cover and really well engineered pcb and you don’t lost the lock button
Would appreciate an answer from anyone who knows.. but I'll find out eventually! 😂 Is i t possible to wire up a second switch for hold? Like cut out a spot for it next to the now BT switch, then wire that up the way it's suppose to be. I plan on Restoring a 5th gen I aquired. Already have a new front plate, quad board, and screen. Last thing I need is this kit, but I really don't want to give up the hold switch.. plus I'll have a leftover rear housing with a switch just doing nothing.
check out my latest video where i put a speaker, bluetooth and USB-C in a classic 6. After replacing the 30 pin with USB-C there was enough space to add a second switch and i was able to keep the lock switch functionality. If you are comfortable doing the USB-C mod it is an option although that mod is not very beginner friendly.
a cell phone wire less charger adapter add even if you have use the thick back would be nice and a micro momentary push button and tiny pin hole in the case the same size hole as a sim card holder so the sim tool for pairing blue tooth so you cane use rock box with the hold switch so you can boot in to both firm wear. would be super sick you would really hardly use the 30 pin my be to run adapter would be about it. just a thought. lol
Please consider a video on how to update, upgrade a iPod classic in one video to have 1) more storage like this video 2) how to install blue tooth 5.3 3) wireless charging 4) convert to have USBC 5) different operating system to include better sound quality an types of data then iTunes.. Hopefully can control via Android instead of Windows or a Mac. 6) biggest possibly best battery. 7) Since it sounds like you offer this service please post details on how to offer a donor iPod to have you do it for us.
It's a new back, battery, and Bluetooth. If you're already trying to do a battery or back repair then it's worth considering. That's why I just got one haha.
If you install rockbox and want to switch between rockbox and the default OS it will require a lock switch. With this back installed it will boot to rockbox every time.
@partspluspods3689 if I use a smaller battery like 200mah or 1800mah that is a square instead of a rectangle could I fit slim msata hard drive in a slim ipod?

So if use the thick housing with a 3000mah battery and cf to sd adapter it will fit?
Does everything used in this video work with the 5.5?
will you ever restock black or silver?

Do you know if yours work with air pods pro 2? I have 7th gen and I’m wanting to use my AirPods Pro 2 with it.
If you could retain the hold switch and just "glue" a button under the hold switch to be pressed and turn on the bluetooth board, it would be awesome!
We should push the Rockbox dev community to add a bluetooth trigger.
This is wonderful! Far cleaner than my solution! So awesome to see this concept evolve and get built upon over the years :)
this is absolutely crazy work, will probably buy one the day I can afford it haha
I will be ordering next payday, thank you
Have you thought about replacing the 30 pin connector with usb c that would be cool if that mod is possible
Or wireless charging!
A mod is available
The type c mod has been around for awhile, most commonly done on the 1st gen ipod nano. It's just one of the more difficult mods due to the pitch of the 30 pin connector's solder points because if you aren't carefully you can cause accidental damage to the board.
Can you use RockBox with the bluetooth upgrade ? ( because with this upgrade you will loose the lock button, which you will use to open RockBox too)
buying this over moonlit because of original looking back
You should do this with the taptic engine!!!!
Does this bluetooth module work with airpods? I'm afraid they wont pair as they're notoriously picky, If so I'll gladly purchase this kit!
How well does this work with rock box?
Can the bluetooth connect to the car headunit?
I am considering buying one. Does it pair with car stereo or other bt devices other than earbuds? I'd primarily use it for use on speakers, not earbuds. Thanks!
Just got my kit, while distance sucks it is nice to have wireless, but range is extremely horrid!! Any suggestions?
awesome tips! i’ll definitely be using them.
What are the specs of the bluetooth module?
Says it’s 5.3 on the aliexpress listing. Kinda tempted now.
website says "KCX_BT_EMITTER v1.7. uses Bluetooth 4.1 Technology" smh
ciao, si sa che ipod non ha la possibilita di connettersi alle cuffie via bluetooth, ma con queste cuffie tone-t90q. potrete farlo.
I have an ipod classic 7th gen 160gb would that take the slim housing or the thick one and could i use a thick housing instead for the extra room

If I purchase a slim 5th Gen 256GB with the upgraded battery and SSD from your website, will your Bluetooth kit work with it? I can’t find on the website if you use iflash quad
Having trouble pairing the Bluetooth to my AirPods and Bluetooth headphones
Can you post images of the iPhone mini Taptic Engine install? I just got all the parts and am trying to do it. Cheers
If I send my device in. Would you be able to give me a custom color backing, like the purple one within your upgrade kit?
Does this affect the 5.5 audio output in any meaningful way? Causee if it sounds the same as a 7, than why bother with the 5.5, right?
Totally enticing. How long is the battery life on bluetooth?
hey does your Bluetooth remember its last paired device? I have to keep repairing them after I have powered off the device?
great video!
Will this connect to my car?
