Love Yosemite, grew up camping there and in the area as a child all the way to high school. When we camped there it not cost anything to camp. That was 100 years ago. HA! HA! Phil I understand your pain, I have two bad knees and a bad back, so you will not see me on the trails any time soon. HA! HA! I'm a vet also and I want to thank you both for your service. The country needs more folks like you.
God bless and safe roads. Russ

TREKKING POLES!!!!! They give so much stability (especially on downhill slides) and take pressure off the knees. We highly reccomend!

The first mountain I ever climbed was behind a pair of senior scouts who wished to prove that young and inexperienced scouts needed to be broken in hard and taken home wet. Huffing and puffing was part of the drill. Now - front end of park only. Thanks for taking us along so we don't have to huff and puff.

Just need y'all to know, I (Renee) ate pizza while watching you guys hike this beast. As you became SOB from hiking, I became SOB from eating my pizza too fast. Now for ice cream, thanks Stacy for talking about ice cream, I have no other choice! #struggles #needtocatchmybreath #dontfall

Hiking sticks, Hiking sticks! We've used them for the last 40 years we've been together and hiking along the way. They're a life (and knee) saver, especially on rocky and steep hikes. We still use the same ones we bought over 35 years ago! Get a good adjustable pair (one for each of you), either aluminum or titanium, you won't regret it. Love your adventures. Happy travels!

The first time I hiked to the top of Lembert Dome was in 1961. I was 5 years old. I have been many times through the years. A few times I’ve gone up the face, not technical climbing but pretty steep! Wonderful memories!

We have done that hike, but didn't do the loop back. Came back the same way we went up. You should have gone to the top, it wasn't that difficult to do. My wife, and son didn't go to the top either, but I had to, because that is what I do. I love to get to the top of things. Congratulations Phil. Not a difficult hike, but with your knee, I am sure it wasn't a piece of cake.

Love Yosemite, grew up in the area and we used to spend a lot of time up that way fishing and camping when I was a kid. Phil, I feel your pain when it comes to the knees. We did the same hike in August! Instead of turning to the Dome, we went up and around the VERY peaceful Dog Lake and then back and around to Lembert's. We couldn't find the easy route to the Dome top so we basically rock climbed up. Luckily realized the easier route off of the Dome! Other than the Glacier Point view (you can drive to it), I'd say Lembert's is the best hike/view at Yosemite. Your last few vids have brought back lots of great Yosemite memories!

I'm enjoying your videos from that area. When ever possible please give us distances and time for your hikes and even driving time from campgrounds to points of interest. You did in this vid, but not some of the others. We travel with a dual sport motorcycle (a Yamaha TW 200) and it has a range of only about 70 to 80 miles.
Congratulations for recognizing that your shouldn't try to climb to the top. I wouldn't either. Who was it that said "A man's got to know his limitations."

If I tried to clime that mountain chipped people in wheel chairs would be passing me.
Then their would be a fight for the wheel chairs . The next day would wound see me in the
local news. Four miles what a trip and that high I would only guess the oxygen would be
hard to breath. Loved the video just watching made me sweat ! I had to get a class of water
and eat a candy bar. Thanks for sharing !

One tip I learned way back in Boy Scouts is when going up steep slopes, take smaller steps and lock your knee with each step. The result is much more noticeable when carrying a heavy pack, but it should work just as well for you.

Great hike. You guys are the best. Phil, I had both knees replaced and hiked the Grand Canyon rim-to-rim a couple years after. No problems. Now, however, I have had four more replacements on top of the first ones and could never hike that trail. I have found that going downhill is harder on the knees than uphill. Two hiking poles help greatly.

Agreed. Hiking is much different then jogging or walking long distances. I love hiking and exploring on trails. I like when you are on and in and out trail when someone comes down and encourages you by letting you know the hike is worth it. The longest that I can get out of my 3 liter water bladder is about 6-7 miles and I am rationing it. Have you tried using a hiking stick, Phil? Mary 💕 Fred

I am a member of the "bad knees" club. ( both) I have an appointment with the orthopedic surgeon on Jan. 6. The plan is gel injection so I can loose weight before replacement. Going downhill can be worse than uphill on the knees. I use to love hiking. Hopefully I will be able again after replacements.

  • @gregoryjordan6522
    @gregoryjordan6522 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Phil, YOU NEED HIKING STICKS or at least one!!!! I have 2 bad knees, trust me, the hiking stick helps. I usually don't use it until I'm headed down. And it really helps if you have a creek crossing. Don't cheap out and pick up a tree limb that you found in the woods, get a real hiking stick. Also, don't get the clearance special at Walmart either. More money means lighter yet stronger sticks. Get one that has a really good handle that feels comfortable in your hand.

What brand of hiking shoes do you both wear and how well did they perform on that type of hike? Thank you

I have both knees with no meniscus. Going up isn't too bad though my weight hampers me. It is going down a hill that hurts. That bone on bone is no joke. It is a lot of ibuprofen after that hike.

Have you ever used hiking poles? Tami and I wouldn't hike without them. Pooh Pooh them before I used them in Acadia.

Going down steep hills is harder on the legs than going uphill and I don't think anybody ever died falling uphill.

At least you had a plethora of things to do and great weather waiting for the Jeep to get fixed. You could have had the window pulled out by a car burglar in Vegas. Yeah there are things to do but at 115 degrees?
