  • Come is the most important thing you will teach your puppy, and you want to do it in a fun and motivational way. In this video meet Nancy who had a big scare with her dog Ozzy a few weeks ago. She could not get Ozzy to COME when she called him no matter what.

In this video, you'll see Ozzy learn the come command in just a few minutes without any corrections or force. This is a simple lesson that can be taught to almost any dog and almost any age. But it must be reinforced and that can be done through games. The basic lesson is super easy, fun and fair for your puppy or dog to learn. In this video you'll see the dog grasp the concept in less than 6 minutes.

Very good training session for the dog and owner. I wish more people would consider better matching themselves with a breed and/or dog's temperament/ personality that would fit them and their lifestyle. Regardless, the owner made a wise step in the right direction to get proper and professional training for both of them that will eventually help build their relationship and even save a life with a strong recall. RC is my go to trainer in the US when I need to step up my game with dog training. It was a good demonstration of the process with a real owner and a dog that was not at the level it needed to be with this command and connection with his owner.

I would prefer using a clicker to mark when the correct behaviour is performed as well.
Our voices aren't perfect and it fluctuates.
A clicker is the same distinct sound every single time, which makes it easier for the dog to recognise.

find a nice open area where there is little to no distraction except for regular nature. typically a grass field or something like that.
put on a long leash about 10-15 meters, tie it around your waist and attach it to you dogs harness/neckless.
then rund around and let him chase you. that way he will engage with you and find you fun.
If the dog already knows how to drop his item, you can play fetch with him this way, just make sure you're not standing still and being boring yourself all the time. Move around with him.
After a while, when he becomes a bit tired you can take your treat bag out and go into an obedience session to learn tricks while being outdoors or practice that recall.
You'll find it easier to teach him this when he's alreadya bit tired as well as already engaged with you and finding you fun to be around.

    • @DenaInWyo

For real. When you do that, you're doing exactly the opposite of what you're trying to accomplish. You're showing the dog that coming to you is going to have negative consequences, making them far less likely to do it! Same with house training. People think rubbing their nose in the mess or yelling at them angrily will get them to not go in the house. All you're doing is making sure they know to hide when they wee. No reaction to a house mess, and super praise when they do the right thing.

(ozzy sound)(dogs dont know letters or words, but they can seperate sounds.the dog get used the sound which appears by saying the name.when someone says oZZY, the dog gets the sound not the "word". For exapmle if a horse rider says " brışş" , the horse senses that he must stop.if a horse rider says "yieahh" , the horse senses to that the rider want him to run)
    *2)taking interest* 06:11
    (turning head)
İf the dog doesnt get interest From your voice, you shouldnt give order

    *4)giving Prize* 06:13

İf giving Order and giving prize are connected well, then the dog starts to get used the order.

My shepherd does great following any commands as long as she's on a leash. It's when I take the leash off, that she wants to do what she wants to do. This happens about 50% of the time when she's off leash when we're outside. I believe it has a lot to do with all the energy she has because once she's tired out she'll stay close to where I'm working. I'd like for her to just stay in yard, which is more than enough to run around in. I'm disabled and can't afford a fence around my property and besides she would jump it or dig under it if she were pinned up. I've seen her do both. She's very smart.

    Hi Robert !
I've a 7 weeks old puppy Shih-tzu that i picked up a week ago. Since than he learned his name very quickly and i'm trying to teach him to come right now. He does it very well during the training. The issue i'm having with him, is that he only listen to the comand when he's in training.
Once he is beeing distracted or chilling in his crate , he stops to listen totally. I know that Shih-tzus can be very stubburn. Training is once a day for 15 minutes. Should i train more with him during the day ? He sleeps a lot.
    Thx for your help.

In my experience, definitely more, and also when he's distracted and won't come, go GET him right away. Don't just keep after calling him. This will help him understand that ignoring you won't work. The more you call and call and yet not make him obey, the more it reinforces him being able to just ignore you calling.

Shorter training session mixed in with play sessions. Even Susan Garrett, world class Agility trainer, only trains her dogs like 5 minutes at a time max. Especially puppies - they need balance breaks - run and chase you dragging a long toy, etc. Sometimes with stubborn breeds, you have to jolly them up. Hope that helps.

she talks a lot and shows she does not know how to handle a dog.... any exzperienced dog handler can see it. And she is outdoors wearing a mask... it is silly. A Boxer is a fairly high energy dog and is also very trainable ('biddable') but she does not give any indication she know how to train a dog.

I have a question, suppose I have a protective and energetic dog like Rottweiler that I have trained for about 3 years and taken him my parents cause they live remote in a farm where I visit like 4 to 5 times a year. How much risk do am I in to seen a threat cause of the protective nature of the dog, considering my just love a feed the dog cause it's there but they don't enforce any type of behavior from it

      @ Doug:
Way to shame “an inexperienced dog handler” for trying to get some experience. You’re awesome.

Doug H That's why she came to a trainer!
If she knew how to train she wouldn't need help.
Give her credit for trying. Too many dog owners are lazy and don't even attempt to train their dogs.

@@siphamandlabuthelezi8099 I lived on my dad's farm of 23 acres. Had 7 dogs at the time who could all be off leash, including the Dobe, Boxer, and the Greyhound. I would just call puppies! Really high pitched voice, they would all come running, get their high level treats, then get their release word to go play. If any one of them didn't come when called, I would go get them, they would go right back to the house, get a time out in their crate, while the rest of the dogs and I continued on our adventure. They learned very quickly, they would never not show their face when Mom calls or the fun really did end. All I would have to say, if they were taking longer than I wanted, Do you want to go in your crate? I also preface it with - your choice. They'd come flying to me. When your mother sent you to your room, didn't make you hate your room. As long as nothing bad happens to them when they're in their crates. Ultimate goal being no time outs. You can also do back on the short leash while you walk back since they ruined it for themselves - if you're too far away from the house. Hope that helps.

, thanks man, it really helps. I was worried that with my parents being old and me not being around the dogs will get no training, not even from a novice like me. However my parents after training my or their Rotty for the weekends that I am there, my parents seem to enjoy giving the Dog commands mostly for fun to see if they will do it but this has resulted in some basics being instilled. Thanks again
