I watched Ceddo for a class two nights ago and then again last night. It had been a while since I watched one of his films (always for college courses) and I now want to watch and read everything he ever did. I don't want to make comparisons, but Sembene told stories so incredibly rich and powerful, and I love how slow, he brings you there somehow, to match any great storytellers in all of human history. I can't say how much I respect and love him for his style, his convictions. For the way he depicts women. I wish everyone could have just a little bit of Sembene in them, the world would be a better place. Thank you for this.

As a Senegalese who grew up on Dallas and Dynasty I can’t put into words the shocking discovery of this great artist by chance in my late 20ies .God knows I tried to introduce him to my pple in vain. It’s similar to introducing Kind of Blues.

I wanted to more more about sembéne after seeing he's famous quote "europe is not my center". What a great storyteller that deserves to get more regonition and attention and for senegalese cinema as well.
