    Lots of great tools in your bag! A box cutter or utility knife is my favorite. A good sharp blade helps out in a lot of tasks!

    Personally, I like to use a tool belt instead of the fanny pack because it gives me more room and it's easier to retrieve things as it has more room and more compartments. But I like the idea of the fanny pack. Katherine, I can't tell you how helpful it is to have these friendly reminders and tips. That was a super serious box cutter by the way. Please be careful. Oh, And I'm definitely going to be purchasing that "Stuff-n-Go" bag. Yes Mam. One thing I'd like to recommend to your viewers is rubber bands. I feel they are an inexpensive solution when you have posters , frame-less paintings, cables, wires and even to keep certain papers together. Thank you for the 30 day professional organizer launch eBook. I haven't read it but I'll let you know what I think once I do. I love your channel now let me go revise my tool-bag. It definitely needs some revamping after watching this video.

    How about a dust cloth? I’d imagine that would be needed a lot when you clear out shelves and closets and drawers, to wipe them before putting things back. Or maybe not? Do you ever do any cleaning? I’d imagine that wouldn’t be an efficient use of an organizer’s time though.

    • @KatherineLawrenceCPO
      @KatherineLawrenceCPO  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I will wipe down cabinets and drawers before I move items back it, but there is not a lot of time for deep cleaning so I often recommend using a cleaning company if my client does not have one already. It is handy to have a micro fiber cloth, but I would typically use the client's cleaning products...

      @@KatherineLawrenceCPO What about extremely greasy kitchen shelves, oven drawers, etc? Would you put shelf liners on them, degrease, or would that stop an organizing session?

  • @laurapack2611
    @laurapack2611 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Question: before using your own bags that you bought and brought, do you ever ask the client if they just have a trash bag (or whatever) they could grab real quick? Or do you always use your own?
    I've considered adding bags to my workbag, and I definitely need to add ziplocs because clients often don't have the right size, but they pretty much always have trash bags.

    • @KatherineLawrenceCPO
      @KatherineLawrenceCPO  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The main bags I use are the clear lawn and leaf bags and the paper bags for donations (I never put donations in trash bags cus it gets real confusing when you have 20+ bags going to different places). Client's usually have trash bags. When I'm on a job I'm also setting aside shopping bags and shipping boxes that are already at the client's house. All that packaging can be used to help in the clear out 😊 I do like having special sizes of ziploc - I find the snack size very useful for corralling beads, buttons, marbles an other small things...

    Question do you normally haul the items to Goodwill for the client or do you have them do that themselves?

    • @KatherineLawrenceCPO
      @KatherineLawrenceCPO  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question! Yes, I spend a lot of time dropping off at Goodwill. I will take items that fit into grocery bags or lawn and leaf bags like clothing and books. For bulking items I try to find a charity to pick up ... but they are hard to schedule and very picky so I often rely on a hauling company to make drop-offs.

    Do you charge extra for the bags, supplies you use?

    • @KatherineLawrenceCPO
      @KatherineLawrenceCPO  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rarely. If I'm doing a very large job, I'll recommend the client buy bags or label tape. But typically these supplies will last me for several jobs.

    I’d be honest I’d rather just do the basics nothing hard because I have reasons after someone told me that it’s labor-intensive I don’t wanna do too much of that I’d rather just do the closing part like bedrooms closets and bathrooms no fixtures or anything unless it’s taller I’m nearly 6 feet tall

    Have you ever felt endangered on a job? Do you have anything like pepper spray?

    • @KatherineLawrenceCPO
      @KatherineLawrenceCPO  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I do feel safe but I do A LOT of pre work. I'm often working for referrals from friends and previous clients and I always do a detailed phone interview before meeting anyone. I know the type of client I work well with and turn away people if they are not a good fit. No pepper spray, but I always have my cell phone attached to me and I research the client and the location ahead of time. I have a lecture on safety and an example of my intake form in my Intro Course - katherine-lawrence.teachable.com/p/introduction-to-professional-organizing/?product_id=1335576&coupon_code=ORG99!
