  • Conservative and New Democrat MPs are calling for the expulsion of Chinese diplomats over Beijing's alleged threat to Conservative MP Michael Chong's family in China. Dominic LeBlanc, minister of intergovernmental affairs, says these decisions cannot be made hastily but Canadians should have confidence that the appropriate steps will be taken. Former ambassadors Guy Saint Jacques and Dennis Horak also weigh in.

Canadian politicians today have an aggressive and haughty attitude. It is not like it used to be. This is due to the fact that the present generation of X parliamentarians were former college partygoers. Who takes peace lightly and all they care about is getting up the ladder. They have no wisdom. in any case, we can say that they are politicians but not real politicians who are agile in diplomacy. Watch Justin Trudeau interacting with Xi Jijiping or FM Melanie Joly harassing embassies with summonses, fiercely criticizing great power countries, not realizing we would be disadvantaged in the event of an economic conflict, or Chrystia Freeland crying to have a free trade agreement with the US. All of this explains how intelligent or even balanced diplomacy is non-existent today. Some even say Canada's politicians act like they're in the schoolyard

You do realize that Canada has 38 million people and China is not anybody you want to get in a shouting match with for an unproven allegation. Until I see the proof Chong alleges exists I don't believe it. The welfare of 38 million people vs an unproven allegation by one man.

"Canadians are rightly upset about the pandemic and Russia. Canadians will have a clear choice this election."

I find this whole issue about Michael Chong interesting. You heard him "just about saying it", that he hadn't talked to his family in two years or so. What does that say? He has known this issue himself for that long. Is he not going to talk to his family for the rest of his life? Michael Chong is getting all this attention, but did anyone think for a moment about how much the Prime Minister's life has come into danger in recent times? Not just a man trying to get into his cottage with ammunition, then the gravel throwing, the times he hasn't been able to campaign in the last election, and then add the scare that the Deputy Prime Minister had in Alberta. If Chong had experienced any of those encounters, imagine what the news would be! As for Michael Chong, it's all talk (thanks to the Globe). He is self-centred, and only thinks of himself. The comment he made to the Minister tells you that he didn't care what would happen to the Canadians in China if a diplomat was expelled from here. It is all about him.

First law...made in roman times...' the public trust' has been erroded. The ' public trust laws...are the very foundations of democrancy. Here i am, a stranger passing by, with a feather in my cap, reminding my Canadian cousins the history of demorcratic SYSTEMS. 😊

"Alleged threat" - therefore guilty until proven innocent under Canada's inept justice system. We would be throwing a hissy fit if the Chinese treated our diplomats that way.

I am Chinese Canadian and I do agree that this diplomat should be expelled immediately. The action should be taken right away not because a MP was threatened or the diplomat is a Chinese but because all of the Chinese who love democracy will be equally threatened not only by this diplomat but also by those secret police on Canadian soil.
