Hello, I have a problem with my Volvo Penta Kad 32, Z-leg VP DP 290. During shifting forward and reverse come always loud bang. We have already replaced the cone clutch and shift cable. The other parts of the gearbox are in good condition with no signs of wear. The gear oil was also changed and checked. Idle around 700 RPM. I have noticed that the bang is not soo noisy when the ship is moving. At around 4mph the shifting is completly silent (forwoard of course)
    Thanks for the help!

Very difficult to say, but normally the bang comes from the leg not being fully locked into reverse.

wow so helpful. Can you tell me what model number that cable is that for the gear shift?

Try 839091, but you need to establish length.

When measuring the gap on the top bearing cover is it done with or without the gasket ?

Not sure which gap you mean, the preload shins are set at factory, and there is no gasket between gearbox and leg.

I have a DP290 where I cannot move the control lever at the helm to F or R. Like its locked. Its a new control and shift cable I can push the center button to allow me to move the control lever F or R to rev up the engine and that works. Engine is running. If the shift selector at the outdrive was not adjusted properly would that "lock" the control lever like I am experiencing?

Sounds like it could be the shift selector on the box. If you can take the cover off, and remove the cable try moving the seltor by hand, you can also test the cable movement without the selector attached.
