Hey Carl.. let's see what you have.. today was our Labor Day.. took the day off for making video's, until tomorrow. Love that Everly Bros. Etta is sooo good !! Saw her open for Ten Years After in 1974. Inspiral Carpets is excellent !! Your channel is getting better mate ! Oh boy!! The Shadows!! Really good that you represent with Cd's.. I have so many... Never had "Graham Central Station" would like that on vinyl (studio releases). Davy Spillane.. interesting, don't have any. Good night from Nevada, and good morning to you, Carl !! PS "Will The Circle Be Unbroken" is wonderful, you reviewed it nicely..
Hi JT. Thanks for watching and the kind words. I like presenting CDs, as they are far easier to handle and talk about than vinyl. I try to do a quick mini-review on each without boring the person watching. I love CDs and listen to them more often than vinyl ... Although it wasn't actually a very good show - they were supported by a stand-up comedian and only played for about 40 minutes - I saw the Everly Brothers live in the 1990s. Etta James live must have been special ... Hearing all the Inspiral Carpets' singles in one go was a revelation. I like how you know about and love English bands like the Inspiral Carpets and the Shadows ... I keep picking up a lot of folk music, such as Davy Spillane. Lau are an extraordinary band. They are very special, as you can hear them developing their sound from one album to the next ... A sealed copy of 'Will The Circle Be Unbroken' for £1! As you say, a wonderful album. And a good starting point to discover classic country. All the best.
@@carltweed942 Carl.. I have the same style in mind.. talk a little, interesting notes, on each record, then move on... Cheers ! keep 'em coming.. love my mates from the U.K. and Ireland !
Thanks Ian. The Ace CDs were part of a batch of nearly 30 mostly rock 'n' roll CDs I found on one trip to my local charity shop. I've still got a few more to show - including a Bear Family CD by Duane Eddy and a Repertoire CD by Dion & The Belmonts.
Excellent finds! I love Blind Willie Johnson. Those Ace releases look great. I would love to hear that Rounder comp. I grab anything on the label when I see it.
I have a number of reissue labels I'm always on the look out for, and also some quality labels (such as Rounder) where I'll buy anything I see. I trust these labels not to issue anything sub-standard. It's impossible to feel that way with the major labels ... The Blind Willie Johnson CD was a very special find. Take care and thanks for all your comments.
A nice selection there ! Also well done on the 100 subs, very well deserved and I've been enjoying your PowerPop shakers series recently discovering new bands. Haven't been to alot of charity shops recently but I am trying to save for the new Super Deluxe Let It Be vinyl box set so will still look around but only buy what I really want !
Cheers Jamie. I didn't realise you were watching the Power Pop Shakers videos too. The music I'm most enthusiastic about, and know most about, is punk, garage rock and power pop. I'm discovering new bands too doing the videos. You really have to hunt to find out about some of the acts. The playlist is starting to build up nicely too ... I would normally order a CD box set rather than vinyl, but the value is to be found in the 'Let It Be' vinyl box set. I can understand the appeal of a 12 inch single with 'Across The Universe' etc. But why would you stick a CD single in a box set? The 5 CDs could have been squeezed onto 2 CDs; and I've not got the equipment to play the blu-ray. You can pre-order the vinyl on Amazon for not much more than the CD box set. All the best, Carl
@@carltweed942 yes I had just checked the playlist after your most recent episode and found some very enjoyable tunes ! I personally think aswell that the VINYL is the best one to get of the Let It Be as it has all the unreleased stuff in one place 👍
Hi Rob. Hearing all of the Inspiral Carpets' singles in one sitting was a revelation. My second favourite Oldham band behind Barclay James Harvest ... What a beautiful thing for Miles Davis to say about Duke Ellington. Take care, Carl
Hi Gary. I'm really pleased you liked the video. I particularly enjoy making the videos on CD finds. If you're prepared to look awhile, there are some great CDs to be found at charity shops and car boot sales. Thanks for your support.
Hi David. I'm a fan of Sonic Youth. I've seen them live a few times, and Lee Ranaldo a couple of times too. I prefer their more structured material. It's just my opinion. I won't be getting rid of the CD, and I'll be playing it again. I can remember once writing a throwaway review of 'Kid A'; it's now my favourite Radiohead album. Opinions change over time. Maybe I'll grow to love 'The Whitey Album' too. Maybe I won't.
@@carltweed942 My tastes have changed as well. That Duke CD looks tasty! Even that Rounder CD sounds damn fine. Picked up a Van Morrison CD - Days Like This - for fifty pence this week so far. Small pickings though in my hometown at the moment.
@@davesmusictank1 I've not found anything this week yet. I've only been to my local charity shop. I need to get out and about. I'm liking more and more non-rock music ... The Duke Ellington CD doesn't get a lot of love from many critics, but I liked it. He did another album in the 1960s inspired by his travels (I can't remember what it's called now without checking) which critics liked more. How great is that quote by Miles Davis?
@@carltweed942 I have a few of Ellington's but three so far is just not enough as yet. Probably my best finds were last week's finding a "take em free box" outside a household some selections of classical music. Poulenc, Beethoven, and Brahms piano music on quality labels such as Naxos, Philips, and EMI.
I remenber buying Ciccone Youth day of release on vinyl...have know idea where it is now! Irma Thomas’s ‘Breakaway’ is my favourite..even like Tracy Ullmans version.
Hi Harris. I'll have to persevere with Ciccone Youth. I compare everything by Sonic Youth with 'Daydream Nation'; which isn't fair to do. The Irma Thomas CD is a nice comp. Everything on Kent Soul/Ace I buy if I see it in a charity shop. Thanks for commenting.
Oh well, they were just my thoughts. You need to get your channel started and cover the jazz and avant-garde music you love. Your passion for the music is great to see. Carl
