    Just finished installing these in my 2016 Explorer and this video was invaluable to my install. Especially the add-a-circuit tip in the delayed accessory fuse, great tip as this shuts them down with the rest of the accessories when you open the door. I actually did the install in reverse order by running the positive wire from the fuse box through the console first and identifying a ground in the center console. For other Ford Explorer installers, the black wire with white stripe is an easy to get to ground wire. I also had to modify the plastic inserts for the headrest holes to fit better but very simple to do. The hardest part of the entire install was stuffing all of the wire behind the console panel as Rockville provides a lot of wire and I mean a lot! Everything works perfectly. Thanks for the video.

    Just an FYI~~ I cut and paste this from a review " I ordered and installed replacement 14mm posts from Amazon (Autotrain VERSA Car Headrest DVD Metal Posts) instead of using the included plastic inserts which other users reported it causes the headrest to shake a little. With the correct size metal posts installed the headrest is solid and doesn’t shake, it is worth the extra $17."

    Number 1 never use duct tape on electrical . Number 2 your headrest move because you didn't install the plastic clips on the posts that came in the box. You have 1 or 2 bags of grey plastic pieces that came in the box An they are for use on the posts of headrests to fit into the seats that keeps the headrests nice an tight , and also makes it so they lock into place if you need to move it up.

    • @AverageMike
      @AverageMike  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for the comment. For the record, the duct tape was only used to hold the connector together not necessarily to cover electrical connections.. and I did use the plastic pole inserts later in the video.

    • @AverageMike

      It has been.a while but I believe there was a 4 pin plug that went to the module that controlled the USB ports in the back of the console. There were 2 black wires in the middle 2 pins that I determined were ground.

    • @AverageMike
      @AverageMike  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ronebanshee they pick up where they left off of the DVD memory which is standard operation of a DVD player however you have to select the source everytime. I have gotten pretty good at reaching behind and knowing where the different sources are without seeing them. Video quality is pretty good. The side angle blindness is not great but if you do both sides it’s never a problem.

    How do you know which is the main monitor on a dual DVD player?

    • @AverageMike
      @AverageMike  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Basically either can be the main monitor. On my setup, the left monitor AV out goes into AV1 inputs on the right monitor. The right monitor AV out goes to the AV2 inputs on the left monitor. If the right monitor is playing the DVD, the left monitor needs to be set to AV1 not DVD and vice versa. Hopefully that answers your question.

    • @AverageMike

      The input at the console is a constant 12v. I wanted to make sure they turned off when the car did. There is also lighting in the console but then the power would only be there if the interior lights are on.

    These things are utter garbage. I purchased Rockville’s touch-screen DVD headrests (with earphones) new last year through Walmart.com and had them professionally installed in my Acura. I’ve had to swap them out 4 times within the past 10 months as they continually malfunction and stop working.
    Every-time one of them breaks, Rockville makes me remove the entire system (remotes, wires, headrests, etc), pack it all up, mail it back (at my expense) and wait weeks for the replacement. One time they simply repacked my devices and mailed them back to me without even repairing/replacing them so I re-installed the system, realized it was still broken and then had to uninstall and mail it back to them again (at my expense).
    Their products are worthless junk. One headrest suddenly stopped working again today so I will soon be on my 5th system. They may as well be paper-weights. Don’t waste your time or your money on these cheaply made pieces of garbage. A great concept poorly designed and executed.

    • @AverageMike
      @AverageMike  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thomas Ferrugia ... I haven’t had the same experience you have had. These for the most part get generally good reviews compared to others on the market. I am wondering if the issues you are experiencing could be related to your car? Did they all break in similar fashion? Maybe the voltage in the power source they are hooked to burns out something in the units after X amount of start ups? A spike in voltage even after so many times burns out the unit? I don’t know just a guess. Either way it sucks to know you experienced this I’ll keep my fingers crossed!

    • @ThomasFerrugia
      @ThomasFerrugia 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AverageMike : My car is a '16 Acura RDX so I wouldn't expect there to be any voltage issues. They have never lost power (since the red on/off light indicating they are getting juice has never gone out). One day, one of them simply won't turn on OR, after a movie, the the disc will not stop spinning and the system won't turn off. I've sent them all back for their technicians to analyze, but they've never once told my why they consistently fail after just a few months. After my most recent problem, Rockville has agreed to take them back and just give me a refund. I just ordered a similar system from Audiovox which, hopefully, will fare better.

    • @AverageMike
      @AverageMike  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ThomasFerrugia ,, I wasn't implying there was an issue with your car more so your cars normal operation may trigger an issue that causes a failure in the devices. That would explain the similar problems multiple times. They could also be sending you back your same monitors repaired which could also explain it as well. Either way I am glad you got your money back. Hopefully your new ones work out! Good Luck!

    • @ThomasFerrugia
      @ThomasFerrugia 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      With the exception of one (of the 4) returns, they sent me brand new devices every time. The one time the sent me back my own, they didn’t even repair them and they didn’t work immediately upon re-installation.
      Your review even notes that these didn’t get great reviews but you went with them because they had the most reviews. I think you may have just gotten lucky. I hope it lasts!
