You've got to hand it to Miele...they've been making quality cylinder vacs for decades. Interesting fact: the very first time that the American Consumer Reports included a Miele in their group of tested vacs, it was a suction-only cylinder similar to this one. It actually got very high marks - even up against cylinders with power nozzles!

Looks like the one my late grandfather had.
I fixed it for him back in the early 1990s, when the triac blew.
The motor was American, possibly BTH ( not sure ), and I uprated the triac with one capable of handling 16 amps.
Last I knew it was still going.

My family bought a new house and the previous owner left behind one of these s234i vaccums and you know what? It works bloody good for something pushing 40. So far the only thing that doesn't work is the meter that shows you how full the bag is, and I don't know how well those worked when new.

Speaking of Miele ...and I love the truly fabulous quality of my U1 upright, I just replaced its Hepa filter. $49.95 everywhere in the US until I found a genuine German made Miele filter at Amazon for $33.51! Still outrageous, but free delivery & no sales tax. (I tried rinsing the old one, boy does that not work! Hahahaha...)

I'd rather buy Miele or Sebo any day. I used to swear by dyson but I didn't get on with my last one very well. Dyson DC25 I felt was very flimsy. I know you don't like the Automatic X4 but my new year treat for getting up on a Saturday Morning to go into Birmingham. On the way back just before getting the train home I nipped into The marvellous John Lewis Store which Andy Street opened on top of new Street Station and bought myself my blue Sebo automatic x4. Far more robust and far better in my house. What's impressive it actually cleans the tiles and parquet as well. From the 80s I remember as well as the wonderful French made hoovers. The Luton made Electrolux cleaners were good as well. My Nan bought an Electrolux 350 the year I was born 1984. She had it until 2009 when I was 25. I remember my parents having an Electrolux 2030 which survived my brother hoovering out the toilet.

Hi Roger! Love your videos! But how do you get all of your vacuums? Do you buy them or do most of them get sent to you for review? I would love to know! Thanks!

Watching from the US. Great videos! Though I’m just watching over video, it looks to me like the 2 pieces of the turbo were once one piece.
BTW, my Meile Capricorn is still sucking strong after 6 years though the telescopic wand needs replacing.

Yes, the fan in the turbo nozzle should be one piece. I will try and glue it at some point.

Huh. I wonder if you can find a similar bag to that one as a synthetic bag. At first glance it looks like you could fit a Type K bag in it.

I have the Miele Black Diamond -- do you know anyone who repairs older Miele vacuums? I went to my local Miele repair shop in the States and they said that Miele no longer makes the parts for my Black Diamond. I am hoping that somewhere there is someone who does these sorts of repairs but I don't know of a place. Thanks in advance.

inhaleexhale what went wrong with your vacuum? The company Miele is right infront of my house.

My Miele is the S256i Black Diamond. It was manufactured in 1990. Parts that I need to repair it are no longer available unless you know differently. I live in the USA.
A few things that need repairing: The gear shift box no longer works. It is stuck on one of the gears, a low gear. The on/off button has almost stopped working. The one-touch cord retract button no longer works. It needs a new hose. Lots of little things. Yet I still love it.

if you live in the states try searching internet for repaire shops/ people who can help you. hope you get it sorted.

Per my original post, I have taken it to a certified Miele repair shop here in the United States. They informed me in plain language that they do not have the parts to repair my Black Diamond because the parts are NO LONGER being manufactured. I hope that is clear now. This is why I am looking for maybe a Miele hobbyist or someone, a mom and pop shop, or private individual, who might repair these and might have some Black Diamonds for parts that they use to fix people's vacuums like mine. Pretty sure finding someone like this is my best way at this point to get my vacuum repaired.

can you describe the shape of the machine? this sounds like an odd question but I have always wondered about that. does it look like the new cleaners? or ...

    • @ibaisaic
      @ibaisaic  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

The basic layout of the cleaner is much the same as new machines, with foot operated pedals at the rear for automatic cord rewind and switching on and off. The speed control dial is located in between the rear pedals. Further up there is a flap that covers the tool storage compartment and under that is the bag.
The styling differs in that new cleaners tend to have a more curved shape and are on the whole smaller and lighter. Vacuum cleaners from the 80's had a more angular, boxy shape and were often longer in length. In my opinion and observations, vacuum cleaner design tends to mirror car designs through the decades as you can see similar design stylings in 80's cars and vacuums. The same principle applies with cars and vacuums from any decade, for example when metalic paint finishes started to be introduced in cars, vacuum cleaner manufacturers started making cleaners with metalic finishes or metalic flecks in the plastic.
I hope I have explained that clearly enough for you, but if you need any further details, please let me know and I will try to help.

There is no place for super air clean filter in this model. There should be a foam filter and same shape exhaust filter after motor. If there reads super air clean in front cover then the filter is before motor.
