    How much cell phone memory is recommended? Will this app work in conjunction with a gps wrist device or other devices off cell service? The private land information is great for hunters on private land. Land owner information is good for contacting owner for permission to hunt or hike on their property. The app has hunting, camping, skiing and other map options. Very informative thank you

      Hey Shane, thanks for the kind words and great questions. To my knowledge, it will not work with a GPS wrist device or others like it. You can set the app up to sync online automatically though (it requires cell service or wifi to do that though). And I believe you can offload everything from the app and just have it available online, to save space. As long as I've had the app (about 4 years of heavy use), I've just kept everything accessible on my phone, as well as setting it up to offload my tracks to Gaia automatically, and it takes up about 2 GB of space. The app itself takes far less than though (85 MB). But you could keep that number much smaller by offloading to the website and not storing it all on your phone. I hope that makes sense!

    I hope I can explain this clearly, are you able to visibly see yourself moving with an indicator on your phone as you hike?
    My thinking is as I’m hiking I might wish to head off course to checkout say a lake , with the indicator telling us where we are at that time we would have an idea when to change our path of travel to get there.
    I hope this makes sense, thanks

      Your question makes perfect sense, and yes, as long you press "Record" and start a track on your hike, the widget will move along with you and a colored line will be behind it, indicating where you've hiked. So if you head off course to check something out (like the lake in your example), as long as you're still recording that track, you'll see that line "drawn" on the map as you hike. I hope that makes sense!

    Is this the free version or the pro version?

    • @nancypeast
      @nancypeast  ปีที่แล้ว

      My apologies for the delayed response--I'm not much of a TH-camr! I use the paid version. I find the extra features incredibly helpful, especially while I'm on trail using the app.

    Can a loved one follow your hike at home being logged in

    • @nancypeast
      @nancypeast  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question, Steve. Unfortunately, people can't follow you from home through Gaia. They'd be able to see your recorded track once you save it and have reception for it to upload to Gaia's website but not until then. Hope that helps and happy trails! :-)

    I assume that it can calculate the expected time to do a hike. But can it use historical data to calculate times say with different gradients at different distances from the start point.

      Great question, John. As far as I'm able to tell, no, it doesn't do any of that; however, I have found that I can extrapolate data from my previous tracks, to know how long a route with similar elevation gain/loss and mileage will take me. It's not perfect, but I can usually get pretty darn close to approximating a time estimate. Hope that's helpful! :-)

    How do you create a folder?

    • @nancypeast
      @nancypeast  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you go to the "Folders" section of the app, there's a place at the top of the screen that says "Create New Folder." Just click that and it will let you create a new one and name it. Hope that helps! :-)
