- We buy some school uniforms for the kids. But are our helpers rorting the system?

it is probably better to go to the school itself and make a list of the kids without uniform or who the teachers feel may need it more.
Yep Troys hand outs are messy affairs many get nothing.
Their character and traits match their situation, it's perfectly natural. Get what you can, while you can.
If you're going back again, I'd love to get the big lad a uniform/shirt, he always looks so hopeful.

I could see how this series is going to end. Danat and family are getting a tad bit greedy. But that's Troy baby's fault for favoring them.
To be fair Danat helps out *a lot*, she's already gotten a lot in exhange but still.. She deserves a little extra now and then. And her family does live in what is essentially a shed and a few handouts aren't going ot change that, one can't blame her for taking what she can.
She has been helping out the most by being Troy's assistant, and some of the donators have specifically directed Troy to help them out, so in all fairness, she does deserve some of what she has benefited.
To be fair, Troy did make it a point to tell Donat that she needs to give to stop favoring her family first but I can't blame Donat either. Its tough to be totally fair when the village descends in force.
Meantime poor Troy has to run home into darkness.
@@keithd1219 Yeah Troy baby did tell her but he has to put his foot down. When you are poor you have to take whatever you can while it lasts, and it would be normal to take care of your family first I guess that's what Danat is doing.

Troy when you first met Danat and her family they were hounding you to buy shirts and bracelets from their shop. They are pros at pressuring you to buy or give to them. It seems like there is less appreciation for the donations from them and now they expect it. Unless the donors specifically says give to Danat and her family, I would focus on the others who have less. I see kids constantly being passed up video after video only to play second fiddle to the Danat family. Maybe have Somali or Hanglee help you hand out next time since they know a little English or maybe Marie? Just a thought
Hi, well tbf Danat didn't exactly hound me. I went into their stall and started filming her & her family while they were working and they asked me to buy their bracelets. As did many other vendors.
Heng Li also speaks zero English. Somalie speaks a little.

DONT GIVE MONEY. ONLY BUY FOOD, CLOTHES, AND ESSENTIAL ITEMS. REASON IS MONEY THEY TAKE CAN BE USED FOR IRRELEVANT THINGS. JUST LIKE THOSE STUPID POLITICIANS ASKING FOR MONEY

They all use the same school uniforms? How do you know which to buy for which kid? Or by uniform does it just mean clothing? Or does all of Cambodia have identical school uniforms for all the different schools?
It is a standard uniform for all schools in Malaysia.
My neice and her boyfriend were on the Bamboo Railway three days ago, they bought some stuff but are travelling light.
So i am expecting a Bracelet all the way back to here in Ireland 🇮🇪
I see this is like feeding fish in a pond... the community would be better served if you did this through the school... to reach the most needy... of course.. I do think that Danat's heart is in the right place. She acknowledged the fact that she has received much blessings from you.

yeah, you can’t stand back and criticize when you’re handing the keys to a 10 year old girl to sort things out. maybe get one of those gopro headbands so you can record AND help control the handouts.
You need to take a couple of different families at a time .
Danat is cool, she works hard for you. It was thoughtful of her to check on your travels.
I dnt think you can expect a child to be fair when there pressured by there parents to give to them after all when you go home she will be the one that has to be the one burdened with the consequences of not giving to her family an this could cause her to suffer with mental stress or even physical punishment.
Next time the family will ask you to buy refrigerators, TVs, computers, motorbikes etc. for relatives.
I don't think they're they'll quite go to that extreme.
Earlier the family did ask for an e-bike & Danat brought up her aunt's eye but that's about it.
They don't really make demands.
They just grab fruit etc that I intend to share out to the whole village.
I told them I'll take care of them separately later but they still compete for the small stuff.
Odom says he explained it to them after I asked but they still do it.
@@troycambo, I don't think claireli88 was completely serious when she said that the family would demand for more modern and expensive items. It seems to me that Danat and the family know that they are in a special position to behaved and be treated differently and ask for things through Danat. Danat knows how and when to pressure you to get things from you. In an earlier video, you wrote that she pestered you for a full dragon fruit while the cut fruits were given out to the children. Today at the store, she was being pressured by her family to get things for them while you were trying get out of the shop quickly as it was getting dark. Great that you were able to be firm and clear in telling her that she and her family had received quite a bit from you. Today, a Xiaomi phone. What's next?

Don't mean to sound harsh, but it might be time to move on. Find another area to help out. No doubt theirs plenty of neighborhoods to help.
Fair point. Its a problem with making youtube videos maybe. You and your audience get attached to particular recurring characters, rather than helping more people. Not a major problem really, but its something to keep in mind. Yeah, visiting a whole new area may be a good idea.
what these people need, is more infrastructure, like a public water/ waste system, transport system. All these small donations are great, but they are just small temporary uses.
It’s just not fair that Danat’s family receives the most. Danat just takes for granted that she can have anything she wants. I know she’s helpful, but she got a phone which is a tremendous gift. And even Troy keeps telling her that her family takes everything. She just laughs and ignores him. Somewhat aggravating behavior.

Wow Troy....lots of negative comments today...and tbh I agree with most of them..I am a devoted fan of your channel and i have binge watch all of your contents...but this Cambodia series is out of control...I tried not to make negative comments...I don't contribute am just a viewer...but I have never seen such a bunch of greedy people...especially the adults...there is one guy..he had on a towel the last time.. .omg hes out of control..sorry Troy...
Instead of going big like red cross or so , i would rather concentrate on a few single cases where you can see real progress, or failure. One or two eggs or few pieces of fruit wont change anybodys life.

As much as l have loved this channel from the start l have been disappointed by these Cambodian videos, l cannot watch a complete video because l am only seeing this 'all for me' attitude, the money grabbing stuff, l have never been good with it not just here but in other things throughout my life. I am also not able to apologise for my feelings.
Tbf I have never seen Bot, Chau Anh or any other Vietnamese characters express a desire to share. Nor would I expect them to in their circumstances where they don't know where the next meal is coming from. And they received thousands of dollars as opposed to these Cambodians receiving some extra pieces of fruit.
So chaotic. I obviously can't tell you how to run your channel, but I do believe it is better that you decide what to do with the donation money rather than take orders from people that donate. If someone per example donates to give to these children, and then you make a video on it, then more people want to do so, then you are just stuck in this zone for a while, and I'll be honest, it's not that interesting to watch mainly because of how chaotic it is, it kind of feels like you didn't help anyone really, because there are so many people that need help, and unless you're a millionaire, you can't help everyone. I think you can learn from channels like vasya in the hay, they do similar type of content, but rather actually focus on a story, we get to learn about the person's past, how they are living, their situation, condition and after which they get help, and maybe revisits every few months. It is kinda like Chau Anh's series. Those type of videos are much more interesting to watch.
Are the uniforms required for schooling? Seems odd that they would be required since they are very poor, and cant afford. Teaching in Cambodia doesn't require a Bachelor degree unlike Vietnam and Thailand require Bachelor degree, anyone can get some training and teach in Cambodia! (only if the westerner people can withstand the heat of Cambodia haha)
As far as I can remember yes, uniforms are required for schools in Cambodia unfortunately. I think public schools are free, but the students have to buy their own uniforms, books, papers etc..
".......to buy uniform(s) denotes the entire uniform for most people....i.e/the shirt/blouse AND bottom. Not just the top. I keep waiting for you to buy a bottom skirt or pants.😵💫😵💫😵💫😵💫😵💫
