THANK YOU, finally someone explains this with some semblance of actual specific info

This was a great explanation, thank you. I’m about to do some work on my heritage 535 and am leaning toward 50s wiring. This was a helpful POV on what it’s all about. It’s not paper and snake oil!

Did you end up switching your 535 to 50s wiring? I got a sweet 535 late last year that was set up with modern wiring. I found it interesting that Heritage ships their guitars with modern wiring since they’re vintage flavored guitars. Anyway, I ended up switching to 50s wiring but I’m still trying to get the hang of it. A lot of times my bridge pickup is too bright and I need to role the tone all the way down to 2 for it to sound like a good chewy vintage humbucker. That makes me think that maybe the treble setting on my amp is too high, but if I switch to the neck pickup and roll back the volume to clean up drive, I lose too much top end. Been surprisingly fun and tricky to get the hang of

@@CargoShorts7 I did indeed switch my 535. Thing is, I also switched out the bridge pickup from the stock (Schaller, I think?) to Lollar Imperials. I found the stock pickups to be a bit thin and, for lack of a better term, farty. I HIGHLY recommend trying out new pickups. I happen to have had great experiences with Lollars, both their famous P90s on a custom guitar I had made and the Imperials on the 535, but there are lots of great pickup makers out there. Surf around, see what's out there, and try something new.

@@joelazar2492 Hey thanks for the feedback man! I actually also swapped the pickups in my 535 too. I stuck a Wolfetone Dr. Vintage in the neck and a Wolfetone Marshall Head MKII in the bridge. I actually quite like the neck pup tone, but I'm still trying to get the hang of 50s wiring and find an amp setting where the neck pup is still warm and crisp with the volume at 7/8. The bridge on the other hand, it sounds good if I roll the tone knob back to like 2, but much beyond that the bridge pup becomes too piercing on the treble strings. Maybe it's the particular pots/caps that were used in my 50s wiring mod. Also how do you like the Lollar Imperials? I was debating between the Imperials and Imperial Low Winds, but ended up going with Wolfetone, which I dig a lot so far, but I'll probably end up trying more pups down the line. Cheers!

TBH I don’t play my 535 nearly enough anymore to be an authority on how it performs. I play mostly acoustic these days. That’s said, I can say the imperials were a huge improvement.

Is it true that you get less interference and a lower noise floor with 50s wiring?

Hey great video man! I recently switched my Heritage 535 to 50s wiring (sorta strange that Heritage ships their guitars with modern wiring even though they’re vintage flavored) but it’s been sort of tricky to get used to. I read things like Joe Bonamassa hardly ever plays with his volume knobs on 10, more like around 7/8. But the problem I’m running into is that my bridge pup sounds pretty dang bright to where I have to roll the bridge tone back to 2/3 for it to sound like a good chewy vintage PAF. That made me think the tone setting in my amp was too high, but when I switch to the neck pickup, it sounds nice and full and crisp with the volume and tone at 10, but when I roll back the volume, I still lose to much top end. Been fun, but tricky to get used to. Could that be the particular pots in my axe?

Is it expensive to have an ES-335 rewired? They don't have a nice access port like a Les Paul has.

It usually is. If someone does it cheaply, well…
It’s not the kind of thing that rewards shortcuts.

Pleaaaasee, take care of the sound quality of your videos. I love your channel, but I think that either your camera records a bad quality audio, or TH-cam cuts down it very low.

I now do most videos with a real mic for my voice and a real mic for the amps, only using the phone camera for video. This one was using the phone for voice and real mic for the amp.
But about two weeks ago I discovered the video editing software I am using degrades audio when saving as an MP4, specifically low end. I've since found a way around that.

@@PsionicAudio Yes!!! that is the point. Something degrades the sound quality. Either software or youtube. It would've been very much pleasing, listening all those demos in HD sound.
