Japanese TV. Slight crackle on audio from original video. Cornell Dupree - guitar; Ronnie Cuber - baritone sax; Richard Tee - piano; Eddie Gomez - bass; Steve Gadd - drums (and great solo!)
I know exactly what you mean. Whenever I start to think, "Well maybe i'm foolin' myself and the music wasn't as good as I thought it was when I came through.' Then I listen and watch stuff (!!) like this at home and all the confusion disappears!! It was FABULOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bob
To bobfunk11. Thank you. I agree with your point, which was my point as well. Having been in bands most of my life, I know that the "line-up" of musicians will change but the band is still the same - (even the name of the band may change at times). I guess plectroman is really a detailed type of person - which is cool too. I guess if you see Gadd with Richard Tee, you automatically think "Stuff" even through they may be the Gadd Gang.
You're correct. The Gadd Gang had new members, but Cornell Dupree, Richard Tee are from Stuff. I'm a drummer, and I guess I wasn't considering the horn section - I was simply looking the rhythm section. And yes, Gordon Edwards is missing. Take it easy pal.
Question: Is Steve using a paradiddle at 6:35 or is he just mixing up all sorts of rudiments? It's cool to try to see what these amazing guys are doing to replicate it, but sometimes the answer is just: "They have got the funk."
Cornell looks like he just got back from the early mornin paper round....Nice cup of coffe, maybe fix some eggs....read the sports pages.....yaaaawn...LOL
Oh please...you keyboard gangsta scare me. Don't take this TH-cam thing seriously. I stand corrected, yes, Gordon Edwards isn't there and the horn section is an addition. Kill the tough talk.
Look, I know this is their own take on the song, and that's great, its good. But, I'm sorry, I think it feels to rushed, and there isn't enough room for the groove. The almost sounds cheesey, where as the far slower and funkier blusier version of the original is better.
May be. I don't like Cornell DUPREE. May be he's good but Eric GALE is better. I am "un inconditionnel" (if you like : He is like Picasso of blues guitarsit for me today) . Ciao
Chainlink...@ 6.35 Steve is doing whats called a Mozambique rhythm,I use it alot, esp in latin based songs....It is based on a king of parradiddle but accents in other places,H...
I don't know what you when you say Gadd looks ruined. When somebody plays his chosen instrument as great as he does, who cares what he looks like? That's how I see it.
"Fills bring the thrills, but groove pays the bills." -Steve Gadd

Ronnie Cuber is my hero!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ruined = extremely intoxicated.

For some young people it seems that the music was invented before yesterday

It's a Mozambique style groove, a type of street Afro-Cuban music.

@beezerk1 ... I only mean't looked like the puppet, but hey he ain't far behind Sims!
Ronnie Cuber is 'Zoot' from the muppets !
Gadd looks RUINED. But I have so much respect for him and his drumming and musicianship. And that piano solo is incredible.
Admittedly, he looks a look better 30 years on!
YEah, so gadd :D
