Press and hold the power button and volume down

I find the following easiest.
Plug the phone in to a pc with a usb cable. If it's powered on you will hear the noise of a new usb device beep in windows.
Then press and hold power+volume down, wait until the pc beeps to say the phone has disconnected, then once more to say it reconnected.
At that point the phone has restarted in fastboot.
Press down volume once
Then press off button once.
Your phone should now be off

I'm so stupid. For some reason, I decided to use my phone as a hammer because I had a strong phone case. A couple of hours later, the display stopped working. Now I see the display ribbon cable is at the exact place where I decided to use phone as a hammer!!!!
