  • FIRST LOOK: The Atlas is getting some changes from VW and an off-road trim called the Peak Edition. On the outside you will discover 18in wheels wrapped in off-road spec tires, a unique front fascia and rear bumper. On the inside the orange Peak Edition trim continues throughout. Under the hood is the new 2.0L turbocharged inline-4 that produces 269HP & mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Is the 2024 VW Atlas Peak Edition a better SUV to buy than a Honda Pilot?

I’ve been noticing a lot of automakers are making “wilderness” and off road trims for their cars. I’m all for it. It gives you variety of what you want. I wonder how many people will actually take this off-road. I’ve never seen a Volkswagen go onto dirt

Love the colour and the lighting. Totally agree with the haptic stuff. It would be much better with physical buttons, it's the sole reason why I'm not a big fan of the Golf GTI, the infotainment system and the haptic buttons, otherwise, the GTI is such a fun car. The IQ lighting is very good and well designed. We live in Vancouver BC and have Fog very often I and I did find that switching the IQ head lights to dive mode works perfect just as Fog Lamps and they turn with the wheel on our mountain roads. good thing about the 23' pilot is that even the lowest trim level at $40k has the same horse powered engine. The only main difference is the seats and rims. The sport model is affordable, nice cloth looking seats with red stitching, and has the same 20" rims like the Touring model. You can even get the sport with AWD for $43K sticker price at the dealer right now

I have this exact car in pure grey. It is a stunner indeed, and drives so flawlessly. I also grew fond of the touch screen infotainment system within a couple of days. It is super responsive though which is a bonus. I do recommend people to have a microfiber cloth inside the car as fingerprints drive me nuts lol. And I wish VW would ditch the piano black as that is also a fingerprint magnet, but luckily it isn’t overly done in this vehicle. The new 2024 peak edition is literally my perfect car minus piano black😂 I wasn’t sure how I would feel about the new 2.0 turbo engine, but to my surprise it has so much power and is a lot of fun to drive. VW imo almost had one of the best/lightest steering and handling. All in all, I love this car and would highly recommend to anyone looking for a spacious and comfortable vehicle that won’t disappoint.

I like it a lot! That's good looking. I'd put a size larger and bit more aggressive all terrain like the Toyo open country ATV III tires on it and give it just a bit more off road rugged sport look which as stock they did very well and much better I think than the direct competition. I'd have a tough time choosing between this off road Atlas and the off road Telluride. The Tellurid to me appears and I do believe to be a tad bit smaller thus giving it possibly more sporty appeal. Tough one because I liked what they did with the off road appeal it noticeably has. If I had to choose right this second, probably off road Telluride. I just want one in the off road spec. Then change the titles on it and add 1 to 1.5 inch wheel spacers that bring the tires flush withe fenders and no more. Not to stick out past the fenders. I did this to my 18 ZR2 Colorado and wow the most subtle and the smallest custom thing I did totally transformed the entire look giving it a much stronger braoder stance and I can't even count the sheer amount of guys everywhere I went one or two would come up and speak nicely about my ZR2 and most would comment that something looked different and really good but they were unable to figure out or pinpoint exactly they were subtly seeing that in fact made the largest difference. Those 1.5 inch bora wheel spacers that brought my tires out to about slightly less than a 4th inch past the fenders and man it was huge. It looked incredible. I never told anyone because lots of the guys who approached me were looking at the colorado to purchase or had one that wanted to know why mine looked different and what exactly it was that made it so. I let the cat out the bag now and it's the same thing I'm about to do with my current AWD SUV which is put a 1.5 to 2.0 inch suspension lift, ATV Toyo one size larger tires and with this one, 1 inch wheel spacers and enhance the entire look. Joe and Lori great review. I liked this once a lot. My best to you two.

Base model weights 4400 lbs, given VW has now omitted v6 and now you have a 4v with turbo, smaller engine moving a huge vehicle with AWD. Not sure that i would consider that to be adequate power. Given that VW is a niche brand, seems like unless they price the car below competitors, there are better choices far more reliable than this Atlas.

Volkswagen, add heating and ventilation to the second row seating, a massage function for the front row seating...even if it will be an optional feature, heating and ventilation for the 3rd row, better backseat pockets for the second row and a more powerful, reliable engine and gearbox. I will be truly glad and happy to buy one.

Do we know if the Peak edition is higher from the ground ? Like the Honda Pilot Transport is 1'' higher than the regular version...

I agree with you in that those lower deco/vent holes front and rear need to be functional. Also, ever seat needs to be offered a USB port. Also, I wish they would offer the Atlas in a plug-in Hybrid version to improve the mpg.

I don't really like SUV's but this one is really good-looking, not over styled, not too boring, it's nicely balanced with beautiful lines. However, 5000 pounds of tow capacity seems optimistic with that tiny engine, i'd prefer a V6.

It's their price point - for class and size you get better bang for the buck for sure so a lot more people are ending up in them.

Are they ever going to release the ID BUZZ . The Achilles heel of all VW’s is reliability. I’ve owned several VW’s over the years but switched to a Honda I’ve had for 8 years now with no issues.

    • @Blank00
      @Blank00 ปีที่แล้ว

VW also has another Achilles heel: interior ergonomics. How hard can it be to reimplement buttons when they are able to carry oht significant interior revamps and they have the Taos interior as a great basis for what a good VW interior is.

I like it but disappointed they got rid of the V6 option. That 2.0 seems underpowered for a larger vehicle like that.

    • @RaitisRides

They had the V6 available for years and I guess they were not top sellers.

I feel like the removal of physical buttons from a lot of modern cars is just going to lead to more accidents. Cause now you'll be having to take your eye off the road to adjust something

I’m coming from the Touareg and I am looking at the Atlas but I wish it had a PHEV or at least a hybrid option and the tech is “meh”. Waiting to see what the Grand Highlander feels like (I’m a big guy 6’5 and stocky - I need the room). CX-90 doesn’t have enough mpg for my taste although I do like the looks of it.

The avocado color looks alot less avocado under that showroom light. The outdoor images I have seen it looks very green, in here it looks very muted and stylist. Has anyone seen this in person outside to see if it really looks like light, and not super green? This almost looks more like a grey color.

My wife has a Volkswagen atlas. She hit a deer in May 2023 seven months ago. The autobody shop has not been able to source parts to fix the car. And Volkswagen cannot tell us when they will start to manufacture these parts. This has left us with a car payment and insurance but no car to drive. This is a very bad situation for lots of people. I would not buy a Volkswagen atlas or any Volkswagen for that matter because they are not manufacturing parts to repair their cars.
