Not gonna lie, hearing this theme (even just in the game) makes me feel strangely nostalgic to my first ever game of dead by daylight. I just associate this theme with my first few matches for some reason. I guess it’s the fact that after the main theme being sinister and eerie, hearing the survivor theme calmed me, made me feel safe. I just sat there listening to it for 10 minutes straight before joining a game.
I love this theme. It empathises with the despair that the survivors feel, and the never-ending cycle of bloodshed and death they go through. It conveys their desperation as well, gripping onto straws of hope that they can possibly escape the nightmare that they are trapped in.
the Survivor Theme sounds nothing like "In The House, In A Heartbeat", the left 4 dead 2 menu music, or the life is strange menu music though those 3 music scores are great

Just coldness, screams echoing in the night and the land of what seems to be a abandoned place tells a story... a story of misery and depression. Not even in the same time, place and life they think they are in... thinking they are alone when they are not... as they miss family and friends, there is someone with them within those walls is a monster... a show of the beast’s former self. It hunts for its master, the master of the beast that tamed it since it kidnapped and use them either as entertainment, or like a toy. So are the lone souls trapped with a murderer, toys, and the realm is like a toy box to it. No matter the pain, no matter the suffering. Those souls trapped may never be able to be freed. Only suffer for the rest of their days. Forever and ever. Not even old age will set them free from the clutches of the evil with the realm. Because death is not an escape. While their here, they may as well get use to it, since the evil will never release them, and if it dose, not without it taking its joy of giving its victims a painful exit but it never will. Because it already chose to keep them. No day will come to rise the sun they will either die or be sent somewhere else for the evils entertainment of a game of cat and mouse it watches. All they can do... is hide, scream, die or run as fast as they can. There will be love, there will be hate. There will be sadness, there will be generosity, or selfishness. As they travel the hideous constructions of the realm, there will be blood, death and depression. Maybe one day hope will be there with them. But all there is for now, is hell itself. As the dark, misty never ending “nights” rain over their heads, the air filled with agony, and the landscape showing torture and a few souls with a devil among them, with no humanity left inside them but cruelty itself, their will be only one thing present, memories will be made. Most believe nightmares are reserved for just the realm of dreams. However, the reality is that nightmares can haunt the waking world as well. And it is often that those nightmares are the ones that are the most dangerous.
I just realized the reason why this song feels "Sad", like a grim darkness, is because it samples "Dies Irae" (Day of Wrath), which is a gregorian chant made by catholic monks, it was used for funerals and has always had the connotation of DEATH associated with it. Dies Irae is an interpretation of what will happen on the last day, or the day of judgement, or, well, the apocalypse and has been used in a HUGE amount of media even to the present day. The four characteristic notes that you hear on the guitar are the same notes used on dies irae. The reason behind the bleakness of this song comes from the fact that 3 music choices were made. First, the song is in minor scale, minor music is always about sadness, darkness and death. Second, the four notes that play are F-E-F-D, now, F and E are half steps apart, our ear is trained to hate this sound, because it's dissonant, it doesn't feel "right". Third and last, the notes DESCEND as the phrase progresses, now, again, music that descends is associated with sadness, defeat, solitude, and in the end. Death. On the survivor's side, the choice of instruments makes the song depressive, like it's a glimpse into what the survivors feel given the circumstance they find themselves in. On the killer's side, this same melody is weaponized, you're not the one to die, you're the one to kill, that's why killer music tends to be a more "aggresive" version of this same song. Thanks for reading.
The horror of your last trial is still fresh in your mind as you sit by the campfire. The other survivors give you sympathetic looks and a few step up to comfort you in the only ways they know how. They hold you, let you cry if you need to, whisper encouraging nothings into your ear. One comes back with an armload of wood for the fire, even though it never seems to burn out and you doubt it ever will. Claudette emerges from her tarp tent with a large bowl- the Entity gave her some food after her last trial, and she’s sharing it. No surprise there. She offers you a bite. Kate, as usual, is strumming on her guitar. Zarina and Jane are talking quietly. Haddie, Yun-Jin, and Adam have been trying to open a line of communication with the Killers. A handful of the more amicable ones are chatting with them not far from the fire. Music is everywhere in the Fog, this you know. But that one special tune, it haunts you everywhere you go. While you stand by the fire awaiting another Trial, the tune shifts. It’s still there, but it’s embedded within a newer song, generally depending on the Killer. You’ve learned how to identify the Killer by their melody. But no matter what you’re facing- whether it’s the Nurse’s rusty saw, or the Oni’s horrible Kanabō, or the Deathslinger’s notorious rifle -that single four note tune lingers. Even now, Kate strums that very riff on her guitar, seemingly without thinking. It’s the Entity’s chosen theme, you decide. Her motif, Her own accompanying theme, just like She gave to all Her Killers. The slow, solemn guitar music Kate is playing is warm somehow, familiar. Comforting. You’ve learned what it means. You’re safe, at least for now. Even the most bloodthirsty Killer would not break the sanctity of the Campfire and its purpose as a neutral ground. If nothing else, you think as you drift to sleep, you can thank the Entity for allowing you this one comfort in her cruel game.
This is easily the best game I’ve ever really been into. While it manages to be tense and thrilling with killer’s terror radius’ making you question your moves, it’s relaxing. Sitting back and admiring the new graphics updates while doing a gen and talking to a buddy is like nothing else. I actually enjoy the lobby, this music makes it the best place to chill. The guitar playing with the subtle string pull making that little “dong~” sound compliments the feel of the entire game and what is to come. I’ve listening to this theme for countless hours, whether it be in game or simply on the road. I know one of my best memories was getting high with my buddy and listening to this lobby music while trying to find a match. Doesn’t get much better than this.
This song is so nostalgic to me, I've played this game for hours with friends, it's probably because of all those late night sessions and just how catchy it sounds.
_"What keeps this eternal fire burning? I seldom question it anymore as I yearn for its warmth. I get a few moments of peace every time I visit it. At the same rime, I hate it, as I never want to see it again. I tried burning my hand on it one time, but felt nothing. But how come is it still warm?"_
Every time I hear this I can only picture Kate sitting around the campfire with the other survivors playing this on her guitar all just waiting for the next trial to begin.
Trust me seeing someone getting sliced multiple times isn't fun it would probably leave you traumatized I know this is a joke but you would probably find a bush and make it your home as the dbd wiki says "Fear is our common dominator"
@@circusinthesky8419 probably the first few times depending how traumatized you get, but after a while, you would get slowly emotionless as the lore explains, and also you would probably naturally get used to the pain that you would feel everytime you get hurt.
I miss the 2017 dbd enough that I just cried I remember partying up with my online best friends and playing all night long but one of them had stage 4 cancer and the qroup broke apart and he died haven't seen them since
From my experience of the game, every time I listen to the music, I can always remember 3 quotes. "Live and let live", "There are two sides to every coin", and the most important "Fear is a survival instinct; fear in its way is a comfort for it means that somewhere there is hope"
There are only a few other themes that give me this feeling. This music will become incredibly nostalgic when the years pass by. The music providing as much comfort as a friend would when terrible times await us. The warmth of light in the darkest night, solace amidst the pain. The reminder to survive, or be Dead by Daylight.
Wish I could switch Rebecca's menu theme to this. It's nostalgic to me. Brings back the time when dbd was smaller and stealth was a lot more fun. I mained bill and wraith, then switched from bill to blendette. I then left for 3 years. Now, I main rebecca, loop and bully killers, and rush gens. How times have changed...
This song is truly how survivors would feel in the game. It has a catchy tone to it thinking that they're safe and everything is alright. But at the same time there is this creepy kind of tone to it making us think that they aren't entirely safe
Nicholas Vang if you read any of the lore it's theorized that the monsters are the people who were captured by previous monsters and we're driven mad and twisted into doing the same thing, repeating the cycle. Some messed up stuff.
They all are. They are The Entity's play things. Surviving a night only brings you back to the campfire and the cycle continues. Death is no escape either :(
Sometimes is good to get back at the beginning, what all of us have heard since we made a step at this game, my respects to Michel, one of the best composers honestly
Its the time of night, the air is cold, the cracking sound of the firewood fills the place, some are scared, some are determined, some stay silent, some cry. Who will make it out alive? Nobody knows. But one thing is certain, some will survive, some will be dead by daylight...
I love the feeling this amazing piece of music generates. It generates the feeling of safety yet also panic in the mind, knowing that if you don’t do what is needed you will be dead by daylight.
I love this game, it's tense, it's cooperative, and, even if matchmaking as killer is broken, it's still a good time and, in the end, it's all in good fun and everyone has a laugh, even the killer
This song gives me chills down the spine at the same time it gets me emotional. I don't know if that's because I'm so attached to the game or what. Such a beautiful melody.
*You walk back to the campfire. Only to find out you're alone, you sit down beside the fire. Onto a log, you toss some offerings in the fire as you start hearing this song...It distracts you from the madness of that place. You have been gifted a moment of peace.*
Song is enchantingly beautiful but depressing as heck at the same time....trapped in eternal black void full of suffering where daylight never reaches.
I love that it starts out as calm and almost fun circus music but then as he gets closer the more intense and scary it gets, almost like he looks like a regular clown from far away but as he gets closer the more sinister he looks, it really correlates with his backstory 788
These characters are probably the beta versions of Meg, Dwight, Jake and Claudette. The one in the trap is probably Jake, the girl holding him is Meg, girl with the flashlight is obviously Claudette and the guy with medkit is probably Dwight.
Note: This poem is inspired by Derpaderpy's poem. Go check his out! Four survivors out in the night Jake, Megan, Claudette, and Dwight One is a leader, one is bright One is quick, one thinks right Five generators they have to bring Out from their sleeping peace That they may unlock the gates That block them from two different fates Yet their task is not so easy For the entity comes to do its feasting A mindless hunter searches around Hoping to find they that wander the playground All mere pawns in the entity's game The hunter won't be put to shame For if they escape and escape they may They live to see another day But if they are caught on hooks designed Solely for the butchered swine The entity comes in shimmering form Grasping for their hope adorned And if they don't escape this fight They'll find themselves dead by daylight
To people who dont know: The first 4 notes are actually from dies irae or days of wrath, which i think were used in many movies and shows to foreshadow death like in the shining, lion king, star wars:new hope, and frozen 2. also in squid game, but those notes do fit the theme ngl

The song is really catchy

This is some good cry in the shower and think about your life choices music.
YUPPPPP literally makes me sob
Oddly specific
Isn't it in the lore that the survivors don't remember the last trials
And then you get face camped
Honestly the guy with the medkit now looks like Felix. The new survivor that just got released with The Blight.
Not really... just looks like Dwight without glasses, since that's who he is.
Dwight, Meg, Claudette and Jake are the 4 main survivors of the game so thats supposed to be dwight

This is actually the most of the best soundtracks in the world.
90% of the budget went to this games music, 9% percent went to acquiring the rights to the characters, and 1% went to the actual game
worth it id say
0% went into balancing
Bring back this song to the menus, thanks.
So tired of the clown music lol
Guess who’s back
They did it for Halloween.
This song is so nostalgic to me, I've played this game for hours with friends, it's probably because of all those late night sessions and just how catchy it sounds.

Favourite song in the game.
Im not enirely sure why but I find this incredibly soothing, I think its because of how peaceful sound it is.
While the survivors yearn for escape, we yearn to play, creating a endless cycle of the survivors suffering and us retuning for our mere enjoyment
In the actual game the survivor would be putting sabo on trap while the other 3 teabag the killer

I'm 100% sure that this is the dark melody Kate Denson hears during her Archives backstory
It's also the one she played in the Clown's trailer, so very likely.

I miss the 2017 dbd enough that I just cried I remember partying up with my online best friends and playing all night long but one of them had stage 4 cancer and the qroup broke apart and he died haven't seen them since
Damn bro thats tough
I feel sorry for you
I’m so sorry for your loss.
Sorry for your loss
From my experience of the game, every time I listen to the music, I can always remember 3 quotes. "Live and let live", "There are two sides to every coin", and the most important "Fear is a survival instinct; fear in its way is a comfort for it means that somewhere there is hope"
There are only a few other themes that give me this feeling. This music will become incredibly nostalgic when the years pass by. The music providing as much comfort as a friend would when terrible times await us. The warmth of light in the darkest night, solace amidst the pain. The reminder to survive, or be Dead by Daylight.
man i really miss the older versions of dbd, this song makes me nostalgic for em

I then left for 3 years.
Now, I main rebecca, loop and bully killers, and rush gens.

Sitting around a campfire with this in the background is one of the most eerie feelings I've ever felt in my life.
This song is truly how survivors would feel in the game. It has a catchy tone to it thinking that they're safe and everything is alright. But at the same time there is this creepy kind of tone to it making us think that they aren't entirely safe
Dude listen to this at 2x for a surprisingly good remix
the killer is prob cursed to stay in that place
all the killers are cursed!
Poor killers :v
Nicholas Vang if you read any of the lore it's theorized that the monsters are the people who were captured by previous monsters and we're driven mad and twisted into doing the same thing, repeating the cycle. Some messed up stuff.
They all are. They are The Entity's play things. Surviving a night only brings you back to the campfire and the cycle continues. Death is no escape either :(
yes, they are psychopaths convinced to murder people but they were tricked to murder forever
Sometimes is good to get back at the beginning, what all of us have heard since we made a step at this game, my respects to Michel, one of the best composers honestly
Sometimes it feels like this song is too good for this game
Its the time of night, the air is cold, the cracking sound of the firewood fills the place, some are scared, some are determined, some stay silent, some cry. Who will make it out alive? Nobody knows. But one thing is certain, some will survive, some will be dead by daylight...
It’s unnerving, but calming. It’s perfect.

I love the feeling this amazing piece of music generates. It generates the feeling of safety yet also panic in the mind, knowing that if you don’t do what is needed you will be dead by daylight.
Still so nice to see people commenting here
I love this game, it's tense, it's cooperative, and, even if matchmaking as killer is broken, it's still a good time and, in the end, it's all in good fun and everyone has a laugh, even the killer
This song gives me chills down the spine at the same time it gets me emotional. I don't know if that's because I'm so attached to the game or what.
Such a beautiful melody.

Four survivors out in the night
Jake, Megan, Claudette, and Dwight
One is a leader, one is bright
One is quick, one thinks right
Five generators they have to bring
Out from their sleeping peace
That they may unlock the gates
That block them from two different fates
Yet their task is not so easy
For the entity comes to do its feasting
A mindless hunter searches around
Hoping to find they that wander the playground
All mere pawns in the entity's game
The hunter won't be put to shame
For if they escape and escape they may
They live to see another day
But if they are caught on hooks designed
Solely for the butchered swine
The entity comes in shimmering form
Grasping for their hope adorned
And if they don't escape this fight
They'll find themselves dead by daylight

I love the use of dies iray to symbolism impending death or doom
To people who dont know: The first 4 notes are actually from dies irae or days of wrath, which i think were used in many movies and shows to foreshadow death like in the shining, lion king, star wars:new hope, and frozen 2. also in squid game, but those notes do fit the theme ngl
