I have the 8gig paperwhite and I've nearly used all the storage without using audiobooks. I have a lot of manga and it takes up much more space than normal books. Just telling others who may have the same problem. However, you can remove downloads without deleting the books and the space is freed up. So 8 gigs is still okay, I just might upgrade to the signature edition at some point.

I have never owned a kindle before or really knew much about them, but I am considering buying one. the one I am looking at is the scribe because sometimes I highlight things in a book, and the reason is so I can lend it a friend to read certain sections of information without having to read a whole chapter or book if they are only seeking that particular knowledge, also for me to reference back on. I was curious if the device can be updated as far as software/operating system without buying a new unit. thank you for the review. I am going now to watch your video on the scribe, maybe I should have done that first to see if my questions were answered lol.
The Scribe is probably one of the fastest updating devices at the moment, because it had a couple of features note taking missing that are important for such a device. So it got new features with the official updates over the past couple of months and all existing owners can use them as well. I've done 3 videos on those updates, so you can see what has changed over time, if you like to check them out. If you're asking, if you can change the operating system, then the answer is no.
I am curious as to know which have newer technology . The basics are most important for me, like how quickly they download books and how responsive they are to "turning pages". I have an older kindle that can randomly be hypersensitive to "swiping/turning pages and I will find it has skipped ahead by quite a bit, leaving me with no way to know how to return to where I was. Not having actual page numbers is a "fail" as far as I'm concerned ! . I thought to upgrade with a paperwhite in 2021 but soon sent it back as it was a bit glitchy and definitely slower in just about every aspect. (Page turning and down loading was incredibly sluggish) After some research I found out it did not have newer technology that would enable it to be faster ! At that time the Fire tablets had newer technology, but they were expensive and large !
The Scribe is my primary choice based solely on the larger screen size. It is a great solution for me. My eyesight is horrible and i would be able to read much longer with the Scribe. The other features are just a bonus in my use case.
For me Oasis beats Paperwhite because of 2 reasons: 1. Do not have Kindle sign in front 2. You can easily hold it with one hand + change pages by button + it autorotates allowing you to change hands easily
Only buy the standard paperwhite if you’re getting the 8gb option w/ads. If you’re getting it with 16gb without ads, the price is only $10 cheaper than the signature series that has double the storage, wireless charging, and the neat auto-adjusting light. *This is considering you’re getting the black variant as there was a sale on Amazon devices when this comment was made.
Thanks for the info. I went to Best Buy to compare the Kindles but they were all in demo mode so I couldn’t check out the features and they were bolted to the tables so I couldn’t even hold one. SMH. This video helped me decide which one to buy. I used your affiliate link and purchased the regular paperwhite; 16 GB; black; with ads. It was only $10 more to up the storage to 16 GB. I also added a screen protector and clear case that just covered the back (no front cover). The whole bundle including tax was just shy of $180 USD. Thanks for all your help. 😊
The thing is the base paperwhite with 8 GB is a bit dull for me as I listen to many ebooks and I will probably buy books for university ..so I saw that the 16 GB version costs 150 euros but with ads ,without ads it costs around 170 euros ...compared to the signature edition which only costs 20 euros more without ads and with 32 gb storage ,for me its a good deal as I would spend 170 euros either way but that way I get the double storage and the option for wireless charging for just 20 bucks more ^^so yeah I bought the signature edition ^^ But I admit if I didn't have a gift card from a friend I wouldn't buy it,but the basic edition instead ^^
Hi Chalid: nice review!. Regarding the Oasis: my reason for NOT getting that one is the lack of pocketability - it is virtually impossible to put in a pocket. now that the Kindle has a 6.8" screen in virtually the same size as the Kindle, but much less wide than the Oasis, the pocketability aspect gets even more important. Obviously the scribe does not fit either, but that at least offers asignificantly larger screen.
I am so torn between getting Kindle Basic 2022 and the Paperwhite 11th gen (2022) I have small hands so I like how portable Kindle Basic is, however I am also a fan of warm light which is only present in Paperwhite. And to add, I am not sure if a flushed screen or not is better for me. I have the Paperwhite 3, upgrading because it has got a crack on it's screen and it doesn't have the bluetooth feature.
Changing from the Kindle Paperwhite 3 to the Kindle Basic 2022 is basically a sideways trade. Both are almost identical in the most important aspects, so if you're happy with the reading experience now, I doubt you'll be disappointed with the new Basic model. Just keep in mind, that it might feel a bit cheaper. I personally would still recommend the Kindle Paperwhite. It's better in every aspect, and it's not so big that it's a problem imho. It's still compact, in terms of portability, just not as much as the Kindle Basic. I think the Paperwhite is simply the better choice for most people.
I read so much on my kindle. I have the 2015 paperwhite that I still use but I am considering upgrading on prime day. Kindle scribe seems stupid when the ipad and other tablets exist.
Depends on what you want to do. With an iPad you can obviously do a lot more. But for reading and notetaking the Kindle Scribe is a good device (after these last updates). If that's not your thing though, the new Paperwhite is a great upgrade. Can't really go wrong with it imho.
I have the feeling the next Kindle Oasis will be larger than the current model (but smaller than the Scribe) and also get notetaking capabilities. But that's just my guess - could be wrong!
I'm so torn between the kobo libra 2 for openess and the kindle Paperwhite signature for its design and wireless charging... Maybe waiting what kobo will come up with this year is a good call
What case or cases do you recommend for the Paperwhite. A lot of cheap junk keeps filling my Amazon search results but not sure if the kindle branded stuff is still worth it.
I own 5 Kindle's and never bought a case/cover. I've also only dropped my Kindle only once. If you drop things, get a case, if not, skip the case and don't eat while you read.
I bought I silicone one for mines a (paperwhite 5) and I put a pop socket in the back since I like reading in bed and I also put a matte screen protector to protect the screen from scratches and fingerprints.
Is the basic kindle 2022 the same size as the kindel 7th gen ? I currently have it and there is NOTHING wrong and I love the fact that it’s so small, but I definitely want dark mode.
The Basic Kindle 2022 (11th gen) is a bit smaller than the Basic Kindle 2014 (7th gen) but has the same screen size. Besides dark mode you'd also get a much better screen resolution (300 ppi vs. 167 ppi). That's a difference you'll most likely notice right away.
Can i add a scanned pdf file of picture base Like my university notes which i have hand written and scanned with camscanner and in pdf form Will kindle paperwhite support it?
I have 10th gen Kindle Paperwhite. I kind of want to upgrade it because it is already a second-hand one. However, I am not sure if it worths changing. Can someone compare them?
Check out my Kindle Paperwhite review: th-cam.com/video/pjvFmeXtzQQ/w-d-xo.html It's not a dedicated comparison video, but I do point out the key differences and also show them side by side, which should give you a good idea of what to expect. I'd say the biggest advantage is the color-temperature adjustment of the new model. If you can live without it, stick with your current Paperwhite. If you always wanted to have it and often read at night, the upgrade is definitely worth it in my opinion.
Awesome video! I have a few, my favorite is the Voyage. My wife uses my PW5 and I use my Oasis 3 in bed at night. I also have a spare Kindle Basic 10th Gen and PW4.
I'd say the Kindle Scribe, simply because of the larger screen. That makes it much better in that regard - and with the 300 ppi resolution even small text is readable.
I am just setting up my new Kindle signature e reader and in the “Storage management “ tab it says “used 543 of 26.77 GB” To my knowledge the Kindle Signature is supposed to have 32 KG storage!? I mean that IS what we paid for…. ! Thank you Would you be able to address this in a video?
You will never have the entire storage available. Part of the storage is occupied by the system. I have an older 32 GB Kindle paperwhite and also only 26.77 GB free is available.
Sorry, I suspect you needed the answer for the Black Friday week ... maybe it still does you any good: The Kindle Kids Edition and Kindle Paperwhite Kids Editions are great deals - even for adults - because you get a case and extended warranty. When using them in Kids-mode they are ad-free. But when using them normally, they now also have ads - same as the regular versions. Not a huge deal, but that was different the in previous years. You can't really go wrong with any of those - weather it's the Kids Edition or not.
The Kindle Paperwhite is the most reasonable, but my favorite is the Kindle Scribe. The Kobo Libra 2 is the best from Kobo in my opinion. The more expensive Kobo options do offer handwritten notetaking, but the Libra 2 has the better battery life and best screen. So my suggestion would be to have a closer look at the Kindle Paperwhite and Kobo Libra 2.
With the plethora of books available today, it's crucial for authors to offer something unique and refreshing. Time, after all, is an ever more precious commodity. Much like with TH-cam videos, where viewers prefer brief, engaging content over long-drawn videos, reading habits are also evolving. The average reader seeks concise, absorbing material that can be consumed quickly. In this regard, the 'Phantom Dialogues' series stands out. It offers short, captivating kindle books featuring imaginative interviews with both historical and fascinating fictional characters. These bite-sized reads provide an exciting and time-efficient literary adventure that stands out in today's crowded market
Yes, you can use the highlighting function and export the notes either by sending them to the e-mail address that is registered in your Amazon account or by copying the "My Clippings.txt"-file that is automatically placed in the internal storage of the device.
Not anytime soon in my opinion. Amazon tends to play it safe with their ereaders. The E-Ink Kaleido screens aren't especially great for reading and E-Ink Gallery 3 is still at a very early stage. If I had to guess, I'd say we won't see a color Kindle before 2025.
No, not at the moment. All Kindle ereaders are black & white and the moment. I think Amazon initially wanted to establish the Fire tablets as the color-variant of their Kindle (because they also launched with the Kindle brandname), but later chose to market them separately. I suspect it will take a few more years for Amazon to release a color E-Ink ereader, given the state of the tech right now.
Entirely depends on your needs. I wouldn't recommend it, just to "upgrade". For reading I personally prefer the portability and handling of the Oasis. Also the light distribution is a bit better imho. It can be a good deal if you find the screen of the Oasis to be too small (because you read PDF-files/comics/mangas or use large text sizes) or want to do handwritten notetaking. Simple notetaking on the Scribe is pretty convenient. I use it more often than I thought I would be, simply because it takes so little effort.
@@davemeadows6688 I only have the original flip case here, so can't really recommend anything. The original cover is nice overall, but I don't like that it's noticeable larger to the sides than the ereader itself. I showed what I mean in my Remarkable 2 vs. Scribe video.
Short answer: No. Long Answer: Yes, but not exactly. There's VoiceView, that can read all contents on the screen. It's only available in English and is an accessibility feature for people having problems with their eyesight. But it makes navigating the device a bit slower, because it will read everything you tap (via Bluetooth speakers/headphones). So it's not a TTS function exactly, but can be used as one with some drawbacks.
A great video on comparison--helped get the things I need without spending for what I did not want. thanks. Have you ever done a video about the vision impaired helps. I would appreciate seeing what is available. Thanks!.
I haven't made a video about it yet, but that's a great suggestion. I'll look into it. There's definitely some interesting information about that topic in the ereading space.
I'd pick the 10th gen Paperwhite: The frontlight is a bit more even, I like the flush display more and it has water protection, which the Kindle Basic lacks. So if the price difference isn't to large, I'd go for the 10th gen Paperwhite if with it being older and having micro-USB.
Yes, but Kindles aren't the best PDF viewers you can get. The Scribe is the best Kindle for PDFs thanks to it's size and note taking features. But for PDFs I'd recommend checking out either PocketBook or Boox devices, depending on what exactly you want to do.
Very well explained! Thank you for sharing, I found all information in one place and this has helped me in deciding which kindle to go for if at all I find it at a reasonable price on sale! :)
Nice review. However, I decided NOT to buy Kindle because many people complained that immediately, or shortly after purchase the Paperwhite broke down and after a lengthy hassle with the support, they got a REFURBISHED Kindle and not the new one although their Kindle was under warranty! That's a terrible service in my opinion.
I’ve had many kindles and none broke I actually passed them on to my kids, and they are very old. One is using paperwhite 2 and my other daughter is using paperwhite 3, and in 2021 I got the paperwhite 5. To me these kindles are sturdy and we do take good care of them.
My Paperwhite 3 still rocks after 6-7 years. My real complain with Kindle is how it's missing a few QoL features that other brand like Kobo possess. How Amazon is so on bent locking you in their ecosystem. But in its class, Kindle is the cheapest option to get in my country compared to other brands.
@@Liz0657 I also have a kindle I purchased a voyage in 2016. Works just as it did when I first got it. Currently upgrading, because I’m preparing to officially throw my TV away.

I am just setting up my new Kindle signature e reader and in the “Storage management “ tab it says “used 543 of 26.77 GB”
To my knowledge the Kindle Signature is supposed to have 32 KG storage!?
I mean that IS what we paid for…. !
Thank you
Would you be able to address this in a video?
Haven't heard of this problem yet. What does it say when you hook it up to a computer?
You will never have the entire storage available. Part of the storage is occupied by the system. I have an older 32 GB Kindle paperwhite and also only 26.77 GB free is available.
It's because the kindle operating system takes up space.
Great comparison, helped me a lot. We only used books and now try kindle paperwhite. Thank you!
What are your thoughts on paper white vs kids version?
Sorry, I suspect you needed the answer for the Black Friday week ... maybe it still does you any good: The Kindle Kids Edition and Kindle Paperwhite Kids Editions are great deals - even for adults - because you get a case and extended warranty. When using them in Kids-mode they are ad-free. But when using them normally, they now also have ads - same as the regular versions. Not a huge deal, but that was different the in previous years.
You can't really go wrong with any of those - weather it's the Kids Edition or not.
Thank you for this video!!
What is your favorite kindle and kobo model? I am planning to buy. Help please!
Can you highlight and save passages in the kindle paperwhite?
Yes, you can use the highlighting function and export the notes either by sending them to the e-mail address that is registered in your Amazon account or by copying the "My Clippings.txt"-file that is automatically placed in the internal storage of the device.

Hi do you think kindle will come out with a colour version?
Not anytime soon in my opinion. Amazon tends to play it safe with their ereaders. The E-Ink Kaleido screens aren't especially great for reading and E-Ink Gallery 3 is still at a very early stage. If I had to guess, I'd say we won't see a color Kindle before 2025.
I purchased all new kindle basic
Great info
I have a question. Does any of the Kindles support Color pages. Or it is all black and white

Do you think it’s worth trading in my Kindle Oasis for a Scribe? Amazon offering £60 trade in?
Entirely depends on your needs. I wouldn't recommend it, just to "upgrade". For reading I personally prefer the portability and handling of the Oasis. Also the light distribution is a bit better imho.
It can be a good deal if you find the screen of the Oasis to be too small (because you read PDF-files/comics/mangas or use large text sizes) or want to do handwritten notetaking.
Simple notetaking on the Scribe is pretty convenient. I use it more often than I thought I would be, simply because it takes so little effort.
@@ChalidRaqami Just done the deal as it also included 20% off the scribe. So got the 64gb for £267 instead of £409! 😁 Best case/cover?
@@davemeadows6688 I only have the original flip case here, so can't really recommend anything. The original cover is nice overall, but I don't like that it's noticeable larger to the sides than the ereader itself. I showed what I mean in my Remarkable 2 vs. Scribe video.
Does the kindle paper white have the Text To Speech feature??
Short answer: No.
Long Answer: Yes, but not exactly. There's VoiceView, that can read all contents on the screen. It's only available in English and is an accessibility feature for people having problems with their eyesight. But it makes navigating the device a bit slower, because it will read everything you tap (via Bluetooth speakers/headphones). So it's not a TTS function exactly, but can be used as one with some drawbacks.
Which one is the best know I'm gone buy new one please let me know..?
Kindle Paperwhite if you're unsure. It's the safest bet imho.
Which Kindle allows reading in sunlight?
All of them 🙂
The E-Ink technology they are using needs ambient light, same as regular paper. And if it's dark you can use the built-in frontlight.
Excellent video! Keep up the great work.
i’m torn between getting paperwhite 10th gen and kindle basic (2022 version), do you have any input on that? thanks
I'd pick the 10th gen Paperwhite: The frontlight is a bit more even, I like the flush display more and it has water protection, which the Kindle Basic lacks. So if the price difference isn't to large, I'd go for the 10th gen Paperwhite if with it being older and having micro-USB.
@@ChalidRaqami thank you so much!!!
Thank you very much brother 👍
I can open pdf on any of these?
Yes, but Kindles aren't the best PDF viewers you can get. The Scribe is the best Kindle for PDFs thanks to it's size and note taking features.
But for PDFs I'd recommend checking out either PocketBook or Boox devices, depending on what exactly you want to do.
Amazing video! Was unsure of which one to get as a present for a friend, but this was really helpful 🙏🏼✨
Very well explained! Thank you for sharing, I found all information in one place and this has helped me in deciding which kindle to go for if at all I find it at a reasonable price on sale! :)
good review
netter touch dass du bei jedem modell ein anderes standby bild genommen hast^^
is 8gb enough or 16gb better? paperwhite
hey, it depends on how many books you plan to have. althought i would get the 16gb as its only $10 more rn
@@GotJay713 I think kindles will out grow us. 🤣🤣🤣
I still have my first gen paperwhite
