As a former jail deputy. Yes they practice and watch every move the guards make. At some point almost all prisoners will be released. That means you now live among them. Believe me-be ready.

Very well done gentlemen. I would like to add the following if I may. Many years ago I was mentoring ex-prisoners in business skills as part of a gov't program at the time. I got to be friends with many of the guys and we did get into many detailed conversations. Did you know, that the MOST requested book in prison is Grey's Anatomy?
Followed closely by Sun Tzu's "The Art of War" and Machiavelli's "The Prince".
In prison, "time & urgency" are the guiding dynamic. (They got plenty of time but also an urgency to obtain certain knowledge base which will keep them alive). They study the human anatomy!! Also, when a fight breaks out they aren't just rooting for their favorite con to win but are studying & looking to see "what techniques actually work". So they can adopt them.
Notice the teacher in the video instructing the student to cut specific VITAL points on the body. The achilles tendon for instance which when severed will prevent the victim from standing/walking. Or the arteries inside the thigh's which will cause opponent to bleed out in minutes. Or the disemboweling of the opponent. Very direct , intentional and militaristic precision in that guy's movements. Efficiency in motion.
As the Professor stated, IF they refuse to do what is demanded, they too will suffer the same if not worse. Thus each person is "desensitized" to the task at hand because they fear the repercussions more than the task itself. Law of the jungle: Only the strong survive. (Strong referring to mentally as well as physically). Civilians do not have to contend with this sudden "urgency to survive" model. Too busy raising a family, etc. (Or Lazy in some cases)... BUT, there are some very scary people out there with skills that would rival aspects of military training. With an uncanny precision. Stay alert people.
    * Once Again, much Love & Respect to Prof. David & Shihan Ken for always bringing REALITY to the forefront. OUS!!

I ALSO WORKED INC THE SYSTEM AND HAVE PRIOR YEARS OF SELF DEFENCE. WHILE WORK IN A COUNTY JAIL, GOT INTO CONVERSATION WITH AN INMATE DOWN FOR TRIAL. HE TOLD ME THAT ONE OF THE THINGS THEY TRY TO BET YOU TO DO,PRIOR TO TAKJJNG YOU OUT IS,THEY TRY TO GET YOU INTO SOME TYPE K F PHYSICAL ACTIVITY TO GET YOUR BLOOD FLOWING. THIS MAKES THERE CUTS IN YOU MORE EFFECTIVE BECAUSE YOU WILL BLEEDOUT QUICKER.

"Some knife practitioners want to go here..." Iron Octopus, this man is a Silat practitioner, I would go as far and say Silat Harimau because of his low movement and targeting. Let's face it, when you have spent years in the blade culture, some verbal nuances come out automatically when you train and teach because the mindset behind the act triggers an adrenaline rush. I recognized this from being immersed in the Kali-Silat culture, the feeling thing is real, we in the know can sense it a mile away. I would go as far to say to counter him, one would have to stay low. I'm not surprise if he hasn't already put in some wet-work. Who smuggled out this video is nuts now they know him.

This prison recreation of a form known since ancient imes in Mediterranean street fencing as "passata soto" is very interesting. In this case, with inverted grip, less frequently used in Latin cultures. It would be good to know other peculiarities in the use of the prison knives or folders in the USA. Excellent video!

I studied many flow drills, but I know they are just training tools. Sensitivity has its place, but it's not self-defense. Bless you both for making that distinction. Must love and respect for Professor David and Shihan Ken.

Motion causes motion, but action is faster than reaction. Specific motion can also be used to direct a desired response. It gets complicated. Practice for all types of attacks, and practice often.

Great information, thanks very much. my abilities are severely limited these days due to age and injuries, but striking the lower extremities like this has been one of my answers, I use a Heel strike to the top of the foot while keeping all of my weight on the now Broken foot, smash them over Backwards ripping the top tendons too. I do practice Knives as an interest, as they're illegal in my Country, but recently in response to attacks, I'm carrying one too, nice to see what I will be up against x 3. Thank you.

i did 18 years in 8 different fed prisons, and never once even HEARD of anyone training to fight. (I"m a black belt and asked many guys to train with me, none wanted to do so). My very good friend did 24 years STRAIGHT in Colorado state prisons and says the same. Inmates are lazy and most are VERY dumb/unfocused. You dont have to worry about untraiined men unless they have weapons or there's more than one attacking you. Dont let them get you down and kick/stomp you! BEWARE of unseen knives.

As a added note here? Right or wrong? If you the target or victim in the conflict and basics ? My suggestion would be if possible? Stand slightly outside of the attacker try not to stand directly in front of the attacker. Also stand with one of the 3 hands up in a ready to go defensive position. Standing slightly off center line does create a slight advantage against an attack and creates a little more difficulty for the attacker to go straight in for an attack. Thats my pennys worth not nickles worth lol. Thanks gents for the video.
