This is exactly how this song was intended to be. Its very rare that anyone can make a song sound like something you can almost hold in your hands. Luke and Phil could do it for sure, in their own ways. When you put Coulters piano alongside Kellys vocals you get something extremely powerful
Wonderful marriage of Kelly's vocal and Coulters piano. Just as well they both recorded their versions in the same key to allow you to do this. I'm a proud Dubliner and musician who was massively influenced by Luke and the boys. God bless them and the composer Mr Coulter....
Honestly don't know how I've always known this song. It's beautuful. In the video, briefly, I saw Miami, I presume that is the band that were murdered. Thank you to the person who made the video.
I can hear this beautiful song just fine. Albeit, sad it is a great and passionate tribute to someones memories and constant spirit: whether to God, Family, Country, Town or specail person you wish to be with. Thank You Luke Kelly, Phil Coulter and the photos of Derry IRELAND!
love the irish people, just so sad , that all we remember is the troubles, very very sad, please god it will be all ended soon, and the people can live in peace
only seeing your comments now. I don't know what video you were watching but it wasn't mines. This is the only one I have made of The Town I Love So Well.
Different nationalities, I am humbled to be Irish. I love everything about it. GAA, our colorfully history, music , myths legends. I am Irish and proud.
+billy2rivers1 ..Yes, and I heard (but I don't know if it's true) that there are Irish people living in America! ...and Canada, and Holland, and Italy, and Sweden, and China, and......everywhere!!
No wonder the Irish have moved throughout the world!! They never got fair play in their own country. Paul McCartney wrote and recorded a song "Give Ireland back to the Irish" but for some strange reason it was banned....sure that says it all! Cheers.
+_ _devwaffleman_ _ Luke Kelly is was from The Dubliners and from what I can tell from many others is the more popular version of the song, but the song was written by Phil Coulter about his home town and this version just seems to be them getting together out of respect for each other. I first heard this song after spending an afternoon in Derry as we drove out of town our driver played it for us and after learning about the horrible things that happened there it really was an emotional song. I still can't hear the original from Phil Coulter without tearing up , I loved Luke Kelly's singing but nothing can top the raw emotions of the one version Phil does on here when he was younger and sitting at a piano with a nice video of Derry and not just a slide show, ( the slide show was nice but the video footage shows more of the town). In His version it is more like he is telling his story than just singing a song and it comes out so clear in his voice I recommend you try that version too.
Great video for a beautiful, beautiful song, but I'm afraid you have the wrong flag showing. Derry is in Northern Ireland not in the Republic of Ireland.

Luke Kelly was the singer of The Dubliners yes, but nearby it's just Phil Coulter on the Piano.
