In my memory I will always see the town that I have loved so well
Where our school played ball by the gas yard wall
And we laughed through the smoke and the smell.
Going home in the rain running up the dark lane
Past the jail and down beside the Fountain
Those were happy days in so many many ways
In the town I loved so well.
In the early morn the shirt factory horn
Called the women from Creggan, the Moor and the Bog
While the men on the dole played a mother's role
Fed the children and then walked the dog
And when times got rough there was just about enough
But they saw it through without complaining
For deep inside was a burning pride
In the town I loved so well.
There was music there in the Derry air
Like a language that we could all understand
I remember the day when I earned my first pay
When I played in a small pick-up band
There I spent my youth and to tell you the truth
I was sad to leave it all behind me
There I learned about life and I found a wife
In the town I loved so well:

To see how a town could be brought to its knees
By the armoured cars and the bombed out bars
And the gas that hangs on to every breeze
Now the army's installed by the old gasyard wall
And the damned barbed wire gets higher and higher

Thank you MIck. It's a mystery to me why so many pass you by without an eye. Have we become so disconnected from feelings and emotions that we can't acknowledge some sadness and shed a tear for that which is gone? A virtual tenner for you, Mick.
He sings with such passion and emotion yet people walk past him and seemingly oblivious to his raw talent. We take artists like him far too much for granted. What a drab world we would be living in without people like him.

That many people walking the street, many of whom are not from the country but the saddest part is the people that are from the land just walk on by. Lovely Mick could listen to it over and over. And fair play to the old folk who dropped him a few bob

I think most peop;e are preoccupied with what they have to get, what they have to buy and who to see etc. Buskers always brighten the atmosphere of a city street, especially if they can sing and play the instrument so well.

Always reminds me of when I was a young lad running round careless and free with my brothers getting up to one thing and another lol,. “God how quick we grew up😟,... god be with them days,..And now I think back of so many family and friends have passed on🙏🏼, god Rest them all,. and on the other hand i have so so many lovely memories, ☘️👍🏻❤️

A great song that I first heard and have on vinyl the barleycorn live at the embankment. Mick sings this brilliantly. Will look out for him on Henry Street or around the streets of O'Connell Street when I go home to Dublin this year. He is a breath of fresh air and an inspiration to any musician and any music lover. 👍🍺🥃🇮🇪🇮🇪Erin go bragh.

there are like 20 buskers on the street at any one time and the same people probably go up and down it several times a day. Cant stop for everyone, you would never get home.
