With all things unfolding between Mick Gordon & iD software/Bethesda, I decided to pay a little tribute to @MickGordon - I wish him nothing but the best in the future. May he clear his name of all the mud being thrown on top of it by the aforementioned parties.
I got addicted to Doom 2016. More precisely, I got addicted to the sound designed that's equally legendary as the game itself. Everything from the crickling noises and all the way to the soundtrack. I can tell that a lot of passion and care was put into creating such colorful sonical landscape and I'm in awe.
Inspired by the absolutely mindblowing sonical landscape created by Mick Gordon, I set out to create a short EP with songs completely inspired by the game and its soundtrack.
After seeing Mick Gordon's GDC video on how he developed his approach to create the sounds you can hear in the soundtrack, I knew I had to abandon my old ways of recording and mixing and just go into a different direction. Therefore I looked past just the heavy guitar, thundering drums and bass that's barely present in the mix, and I turned to noises around and synth sound manipulation.
With that in mind, I played around with a few ideas that were mostly inspired by Perturbator, Carpenter Brut, Front Line Assembly and similar synthwave/EBM artists. I needed to get familiar with that synthetic/eletronic part of the doom soundtrack and I needed to embrace it as my own. Which was not a hard thing to do since I'm a huge fan of Trent Reznor and the aforementioned synthwave artists already.
Combining those two elements was the hardest thing to do. How do I add the intricacies of the electronic music, along with its nuanced and subtle atmosphere, with the brutality and sheer primal sounds of the metal music.
What you hear on this track is my first attempt into doing such a thing.
I hope you'll enjoy listening to it as much as I did enjoy making it.

@@totalcomputerdependency in short, they forced unreasonable and brutal deadlines on him for the Doom music, dragged their feet on paying him for months, used sample/demo tracks he made for them without paying him for them or getting permission to use them, etc etc. And then when he wouldn't take a bribe to keep quiet, they preemptively lied and slandered him in a public Reddit post or something. Fast forward to today and he's spilling the real story with receipts.

Yes 🙂 this EP was basically an experiment and a chance to learn a few more audio production tricks - it would be an understatement to say that I learned a shit ton of things.

It would be really cool for you to try to tackle something that lays into the metal element of Mick’s style. Like bag division that still has more guitar and drums. I still would like you to keep those more electronic sounds tho because they are part of what makes this track so good.

At the time, I wasn't very experienced in writing this type of music, therefore I agree it lacks a lot of the main characteristics that define this genre.

Primarily it's Get Good Drums Metal but I've blended my own samples and layered it with Get Good Drums Invasion for the hihat, cymbals and the snare. It's basically a Frankenstein's monster of a drum set 😄 about 60-70 tracks of only drums and drum FX. Honestly, I didn't need that much, don't know why I did that to myself xD

On my previous EP, you can find two songs with vocals 🙂 if you prefer a more heavier vocal style.
Regarding vocals over this type music, I have thought about it! This short EP was just for experimental purposes and I can safely say that the experiment was successful 🙂 the response was great and perhaps I might release another EP in this style with vocals.

I'm asking because the recommended loudness level u -12 LUFS and this is at -5 LUFS which is much louder than it needs to be xD
However, TH-cam applies compression to anything that doesn't meet its loudness standard and therefore the volume of the EP could've been intentionally decreased by TH-cam.
