Thank you so much for making a good Vanilla + overhaul! I've tried using some of the more Soul-like overhauls in the past, but I felt they were all so needlessly over the top and make the game harder to play in a not fun way. I've been trying to find a good balance between that and Vanilla and I think this is perfect!
i 100% agree, i liked the souls like action combat adxp / mco type of stuff but always felt like it does not encapsulate skyrims feel on a vanilla + setup rn way more fun tbh
I'm so glad I found this video. I have seen a toon of combat overhaul videos, but they all want to recreate other games instead of keeping the Skyrim feeling. So later today I'm gonna try your mod recommendations out. From your video they seem exactly what I've been looking for.
I’ve acquired a habit of checking in to your channel every Saturday morning upon waking up after a long work week lol. Keep it up Soft your vids are great!
CGO makes game easier. 180deg 2h hit is op imo and higher dps when standing still ease the game too. Both can be turned off luckily. They should also do something with infinite rolls.
@@SkyrimExplorer I agree that the configuration options available could be more granulated but the overall combat experience isn't easier -- it's just streamlined. The 2H arcs don't necessarily make 2H weapons overpowered. They're best for crowd control but remain tricky to manage against tougher single encounters. This is why pairing CGO with Wildcat is the right balance for me. I can improve the intensity of fights with Wildcat's damage modifier control and make most weapons actually _feel_ like the lethal tools they're meant to be. And the combat AI also receives modest improvements with enemies able to take advantage of flanking, grip changes, timed blocks and bashes. The experience isn't perfect but it's far more intuitive and enjoyable than vanilla. It is as vanilla _should_ have been without overreaching the purview of Skyrim's simplified gameplay mechanics.
One of the biggest issues with Skyrims combat that never seems to be addressed is the enemies lack of reaction when being hit. It makes it feel like my weapons are just gliding through the enemy when I “hit” them. Games had figured this out king before Skyrim came along. Even just a little flinch and having the weapon stop and connect with the enemy would improve the feel of combat immensely.
Thank you for all your videos. You have helped me completely change my game. All your videos are extremely organized, all the links are provided, and your share a spreadsheet of all your mods, its so helpful. Thank you!!!
This is actually a pretty good combat set up. Mainly because trying to turn Skyrim into a dark souls clone will never work. It will always have some jank to it. I recently tried some third person combat mods and animation mods and while yes it's cool. It's very janky. The animations are also not perfectly smooth and don't all transition well into one another. Instead, playing Skyrim into it's strengths I think is better. Simply making what's there already but better. I'd also maybe add the mod "crouch sliding" which works great in first person as well
No offense but that's BS. I use the for honor movements by Smooth which I assume classifies as Souls like since it requires ADXP MCO. Though I never careD for making mu game like dark souls, I just want to make it better. You'd have no argument to say it looks 'janky', it looks great and so much better than what's shown here.
@@kenz2756 Those For Honor animations are an atrocity. Genuinely tragic to see FH's beautiful animations being butchered and pasted into Skyrim like that.
@@kenz2756 You think I'm trolling? Do you play For honor? Have you experienced what the original animations are like? I can see how someone who hasn't played FH might like Smooth's animations. But to me it looked so bad.
@@siddjp6539 No I suspected, which is why I asked. Because frankly, your opinion comes off as absurdly extreme. I've never played for honor, even if you did play it, that reasoning doesn't make sense because you are reasoning that it's bad due to the fact it's much better in for honor. Saying the for honor pack is bad seem like a lie anyway because I've tried a few other ADXP MCO animation sets and they look pretty clunky at times. Like the ADXP Nordic animation pack for instance, does not look half as good despite being quite popular. Hell I don't think there are any other that has such a well made transition between the power attacks and directional attacks, that animation loop is so good too. Is it possible that you used Smooth's anims without the requirements which caused it to look broken?
Another great and well-produced video! With all of the amazing new mods coming out now, it becomes very difficult sometimes to figure out how to use them together, and this was one of the best presentations of how to put together a group of combat mods that compliment each other and work well. Awesome video. I've just started modding skyrim again and the first thing I want to do is combat. I love TDM and TK Dodge but I had to choose because I can't side dodge with TDM. I decided to nix TDM. I neglected to look at all the features in TDM and completely missed the setting to turn it off when weapons are drawn. Ha, now I can use both! I like this list a lot. Are there any mods that address the ice skating feel of combat in first person? I like how MCO ADXP addresses it in third person and hoped there'd be something similar for first person
Unfortunately no. I think Mortal Enemies can add attack commitment to the player. Plus True Directional Movement has a lock-on feature. Although the movement still feels a little floaty, overall it's much closer to how Kingdom Come Deliverance handles first person perspective than vanilla Skyrim. And there's something to be said for smooth footwork feeling smooth.
Hey there! I am incredibly new to the modding scene for Skyrim, I was wondering if you have a nexus collection for this "Vanilla Plus" style mod list, to make things bit easier for the newbies?
For some reason I just cannot get Valhalla Combat executions to work at all. I tried so many things. Tinkered with all sorts of settings. At first I thought maybe its because of Valravn (in its description on the mod page it said it disabled cinematic kills unless targets were at least 15% hp) so I thought if I get the enemy really low before breaking their stagger bar, but no. I tried different bindings which also didn't work. I really want it to work cause it seems like it would be immense fun but it just doesn't.
I hate the Leviathon weapon movements. They look so unnatural when swinging weapons. Should have just gone with the entire Smooth movest. Great video altogether, though. Thanks for the mod suggestions.
I cringe at Skyrim's community attempt to fix combat. It's always random mechanics stolen from other action games and never addresses the game's actual issues. Skyrim has a variety of combat classes, but combat mods only care about melee. Any time ranged playstyles is touched at all is a nerf like at 2:52. Which is especially bad because currently the matchup that is in most need of fixing is mage vs mage. Dodge rolls as a mechanic only shine equivalent to the diversity of enemy attack patterns. People are forgetting the quality of Souls games is almost entirely on enemy design and NOT dodge rolls. Some Skyrim enemies are clearly not designed with dodge-rolls in mind, especially mage enemies with a constant stream attack. And not to mention the console bias, using aggressive lock on mechanic completely RUINS any ranged playstyle, especially if you are a PC player and actually enjoy aiming. Basically, any Skyrim unique mechanic that could be drastically improved: like Follower, Summoner, or Spellsword gameplay is left untouched, because fixing those would require actual ideas and not just mechanic stealing.
my issue is more so that they don't try to fix the issues that exist but instead try to design an entire new game within Skyrim. To be honest Skyrim's melee combat is pretty bad, but the solution isn't to just try and make it like a soulslike game. Like their attempts to make melee combat already are fucking confused as hell, and instead of trying to make the existing mechanics work as intended or build upon them, they just go on a nonsequitor and try to make Elden Ring melee combat but shittier.
@@JacopoSkydweller it just seems like a minor nitpick. Especially when it is a fully optional feature. And there are mods like the wizard warrior that do make spell sword combat awesome too.
Ok, I finally managed to understand why I couldnt do directional heavy attacks. I had the MCO/ADXP installed, and I think MCO prevents you from using directional heavies. Soft, do you know if the version ADXP works with this? I wanted to add new combat animations to my enemies if possible.
I reallly like this kind of videos and want to try this... but the "mod list" is always so "short". As soon as you start to install these mods, every single mod has 3-6 additional mods required... should be something which is a "must have" information in the video from my point of view...

@@SoftGamingOfficial thanks. I wish this was available for ps4. There are so many mods available now for ps4, but none that I can find make any difference to the hud
@@danboxall4762 sadly any mod that requires skse won't work on PS4 and many UI mods will require SKSE
@@SoftGamingOfficial I see, that's too bad
I would love a dodge mod, but no matter what I do, TK's will not work for me. Just keeps throwing warnings in nemesis.
Good video! could you tell me what textures you use for the draugr tombs?
It's from the skurkbros retexture project dungeon section
Yoooo, where you get those fancy hit effects?
❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
Installed all of these and now all the enemies have very little health, usually dying from one hit, anyone know how to fix this?
Hey there! I am incredibly new to the modding scene for Skyrim, I was wondering if you have a nexus collection for this "Vanilla Plus" style mod list, to make things bit easier for the newbies?
Precision is quite difficult to use when other town's people or non-aggro npc's help fight the aggressive ones without getting a bounty on the head.
Comes with a setting switched on by default to not damage friendlies in combat
@@zacturner7894 Wait wut!?
It looks hema inspired to me
I cringe at Skyrim's community attempt to fix combat.
A few million likes omg yes! I actually like old Skyrim combat, my main issues are awful enemies and bad hitboxes.
I mean… You could just not use the lock on?
@@joker6558 Addressing one thing in a long list of valid criticism.... Nah.
my issue is more so that they don't try to fix the issues that exist but instead try to design an entire new game within Skyrim.
Been having issues with my character being unable to block while moving, but only in 3rd person. Anyone else having this issue?
Nevermind I just went through all the downloads and redid them to make sure they were installed correctly.
I reallly like this kind of videos and want to try this... but the "mod list" is always so "short". As soon as you start to install these mods, every single mod has 3-6 additional mods required... should be something which is a "must have" information in the video from my point of view...
