    Can I hula hoop for 30 minutes a day? I have 2 cm separation I found out today. I also started doing the towel method while laying. I really need to lose weight these next two months before my vacation. Had my baby 5 months ago. Is hula hooping ok because I can’t go any other cardio because running seems to bring out some varicose veins for me it seems ....

    Hi Sara, I am currently 12 weeks postpartum C-section. First baby. Is it too early to tell if I have diastasis recti? My Dr said it takes women about 6 months to heal from a diastasis due to pregnancy. I definitely still look pregnant. Not sure if that’s normal or not at this stage.

    I have had this since my first pregnancy 8 years ago. It started as just 2-3cm 6 months post partum. Then after I had my second baby it stayed at 8-9cm and I am on my 3rd and last pregnancy now and it's to the point it's causing me to have really bad back problems. Can I naturally heal it as a consultant has recommended surgery but I would prefer to try and do it naturally of I can.

    How many times a day do you do the exercises? I keep doing the breathing one several times today since I found out yesterday that I had DR. I think I'm sitting at 4-5 finger length (2.5 years postpartum) and it worries me. I plan on using a "body wrap" (not sure what to call it right now) to help out because I think my connective tissue is so thin, that I can feel the spasms moving around often and especially after I eat. Even my husband realized that something was amiss last night when he felt my stomach area. He's my 'cheerleader' and wants the best for me and now knows that I can't do the regular exercises that are used for core workouts.

    Finally someone who gets that doing the excersises without the shirt covering your belly is such a big help!!! I hate when someone talks about how to belly breathe correctly and I cant tell what is going on with their stomach or ribs. Do you recommend your video for someone who is 5 years PP with a diastasis???

    Hi Sarah! I'm really enjoying all your videos! I definitely have diastasis recti and I really appreciate all your guidance for ways to close it. I've watched your video on exercises to avoid, and I have a few additional questions. Are these poses safe: down dog, modified plank (on the knees), and 'flying' on your belly (as a back exercise)? Thanks for all the help!

      Down Dog and modified plank are safe as long as you are engaging your TVA (transverse abdominals). If you're not sure how to do that, check out my 4th Trimester Workouts - they will also give you plenty of ideas and modifications for exercises: sarahaley.com/product/expecting-more-the-4th-trimester-workout/. I'm not sure what "flying" on your belly is but if you are arching your back at all, I would avoid it.

    Hi Sara, I am 17 months postpartum with my 5th baby and I have had diastasis with the last two maybe three pregnancies. I have gotten it down to about a one and a half to two finger Gap. I really want to start working out and get fit, since I haven't really been able to since baby 3. What can you recommend as far as your workouts go? I would love to purchase the right product.     I unfortunately happened to see this now. I have 2 boys. And the younger one is 6 years plus now. I have diastasis recti. How can i heal it now? Please reply. I go for zumba. Is tat alone gonna help? Or zumba wont help at all?

    Hey everyone,
    I tried a method similar to the one in the video and I saw a HUGE improvement after 1 day. For me, the key was to use the towel to squeeze tight as much as possible. Good luck ladies!

    I had a Classical C section and I been doing these exercises, but I don't feel like my lower stomach muscles can work at all. When I suck in the bottom doesn't go anywhere. Could this be from the vertical cut? For a little detail, i had this c section, they infected it, cut me all the way back open and it had to heal on its own. I was on a wound vac for months! I was told that I will never have the muscle function back from this, but I have been trying. Thank you for any information!

    hi Sara Haley! ive been 3yrs post partum and i didnt know about DR up until last year and Ive been doing tummy wrap for it and although my tummy had shrunk quite a bit i still have a small pouch bulging out. so i was wondering if its too late to do all this DR exercises?

    Hi Sara! Love your stuff here and on Instagram! I was wondering for this set of exercises you recommend, how to compensate for a large butt? Haha I've tried wall exercises before and have never been able to do them very well because of my butt, aka it keeps me from being close to the wall like you show here. This time around I'm curious to know if bent knees would be safe to use while healing my diastasis recti or if it would be too much strain and should stick strictly to the floor. I'm post baby #2! :) I'm only one finger wide (middle finger-wide) but 8 fingers long. :(

      Oh I wish you'd known about my #21DaysofSquats challenge. It just finished up last week. It's all about toning and strengthening the butt. I'm not sure what you mean about bent knees - can you be more specific?

I am wondering if the wall exercise you suggest in this video would still be ok to do to help my diastasis recti while taking a large butt into consideration. Aka if I can't get my back against the wall without straining should I attempt this particular wall exercise? Hopefully that's more understandable!

      It's not going to help your diastasis. You need specific core exercises for that. Have you checked out my Diastasis Playlist? The squat is also NOT going to hurt your diastasis. I would also check out PregnancyCoreExercises.com.

    I just found out that I've 4 fingers gap. Maybe that's way my stomach still looking like I'm pregnant. My second is 6 month old now. Will it work if I use belly corset like mamaway when doing this exercise? Thank you

      Sara Haley Yes! It’s a belly wrap! As far as diastatis recti, i don’t have the gap but I did the test by laying down and putting my chin to my chest and ended up having like this bulge/dome type of thing . Could that be diastasis recti?

    hello sara!! I have a diastasis recti about 3,5fingers wide. I live in Portugal unfortunately here there are no specialists whatsoever that could actually properly check how my condition is. I have been to a few physiotherapists even in Germany and they all tell me I should do crunches, I did what they said because I thought they should know best..... well my belly is worse now I even feel the gap got bigger. well I have done a lot of research and know the basics of what to do so it doesn't get worse. I have one question now : my biggest and only hobby is surfing... i had stopped since I was 5months pregnant but I can't stop surfing forever, then all my personal fun part in life is gone :( I bought a splint and I thought it my be an idea to go surfing with the splint. what would you suggest would it be to heavy on the tummy??? thank you so much in advance

      +Pupi P Hi Pupi. Yes, crunches are definitely the worst things for a diastais recti. Are you doing any exercises to help with it? I highly recommend watching all of my diastasis videos here on TH-cam - look for that Playlist. I also recommend getting my Expecting More: The 4th Trimester Workout. Follow all the modifications. No, I don't think you need to stop surfing. You just need to learn to engage your core muscles correctly.

I strted surfing now after you had answered ( i had stoped for nearly 2 years now) so i am very hapy to be back in the water- every time i am surfing i try to engage my core muscles which is pretty difficult to hold them nearly the whole session and duck diving but i will get there and I am so much happier since I am back in the water- i just have to take it easy and dont get to radical.....     My diastasis recti width is one finger only but i still have a mommy pooch. I am 15 months postmartum, Shall i do core muscle strengthening exercises or should i just go on to crunches and all of that to work on my abs? Please help. I hate how my belly looks like. This is my first baby.

    I had diastatis recti before I got pregnant and now I’m prego with my third and I’m so nervous things are going to get sooo much worse!! Can I do these exercises while pregnant, will that help?

      Yes! I didn't understand why my stomach oddly poked out only above my belly button until I checked after chatting with another mom in my daughters kindergarten class. It had never occurred to me before. Now I am looking for more excercises before having my fourth. I don't have to wait until he starts school to have a flat stomach again!

      Hi Kim. So if you have diastasis recti you need to avoid all crunching and twisting. You can do exercises like these every day to help heal your diastasis. Is that what you're asking? If you've just had a a baby you need to wait until you receive your doctor or midwife's permission.

    Hi! I wanted to start doing high intensity interval training running.
    , where im predominantly jogging but would do sprints for 45 seconds to one minute. Is this bad for my diastasis? I have a 2 finger gap at my bellybutton.
    My stomach was extremely flat before and now I still look 5 months pregnant almost 3 months PP. I'm very stressed about it. My tummy was the only thing I was confident about appearance-wise before baby.

    Would wearing a belly bandit throughout the day also help pull the gap together? I already bought one but haven't worn it too much since having my baby, she's 17 days old now, baby number 11!! I don't have a big gap (under 2 fingers). Would like to close the gap before doing other ab workouts. Thanks for any advice.

    Sara I am bedridden and have just relearned how to sit up and get back in bed. lIfting my legs over the edge. Do these have to be on the floor? Can I do in bed? I call my abdomen Mt Vesuvius it is that big. I gained an enormous amount of weight over 10 years and at 35 I had emergency cesarean birth and I also needed a hysterectomy to save my life. I was 8 months pregnant but my uterus ruptured. A Trauma Surgeon helped my OB do a major incision from my belly button down in a vertical cut. I started see Mt Vesuvius a few years ago, whenever I was laying down. I have lost 300 lbs with another 90 to go which I hope will be by this time August 2020. This Diastases is is huge. I was told by doctors that nothing could be done as surgery is not an option. I do exercises suited to my bedridden status sitting up now to exercise daily for 35 minutes. Will these exercises be okay to do in bed? I would be willing to add to my program for exercise. I am sending my email address to you and my name Debbie A.     Hi Sarah. I have a 1 finger gap and about a 1 1/2 finger gap around my belly button. Is it ok to go back to planks, crunches, etc. since I don't have diastasis or is it best to wait until there is no gap at all? Thank you!

      Hi Christie. I'm about the same here. I don't ever do crunches and I do plank in moderation. There are too many other core exercises that are way better for diastasis. If you're doing plank, I would stop as soon as you feel like you can't contract your TVA anymore.     I'm 10 weeks PP with my 2nd and my back always hurts along with my abs, even after a 10 minute walk or a bit of house work, I ache for the rest of the day... I have almost a 3 finger separation 😱 my question is, can walking helping or hinder my healing? I mean even vacuuming hurts 😔 are there any good house work chores that would actually help as a part of a good work out? I have a bad prolapse too which doesn't help with the comfort level of anything down there... Thank you 💕

    I gave birth 3 months ago and my belly is just like before. It doesn't look like I had a baby. I don't know why!
    Maybe it's cause my baby was born at 36 weeks, but I had a very very bog bump. People thought I was at 40 weeks when I was 34!

    Two days ago I suffered severe pain bending over. Yesterday my stomach just felt sore not quite right. I went to the doctor today and she diagnosed me with diastasis recti. It has been 13 years since I had my last child, I'm 46 and I was a little taken back. However it did bring all these odd symptoms I have been having into a real aha moment.
    I'm glad I've found this video/you. I started back doing kegel's while watching. I'm wondering if because the last year or so I had stopped doing them if that was why I had pain. My doctor said my separation is small. I will apply the wall exercise in a few days after my area is not so sore and then maybe in a week or two the towel crunch. I look forward to viewing more videos. Thanks!

    First of all thank you for taking the time to make your videos, you are great!!! I have really enjoyed you and the way you teach. I have been doing your work out videos and following your chart for 3 months. I am one year out from my last pregnancy, I have a DR and have had 5 C-sections. I just can't loose the weight, I haven't seen any improvement yet. I am vegan and eat 2 meals a day and drink tea in the evenings. Is there anything I should be doing different?
