My problem was getting worse and now I know why. I needed a name of the ailment and the RIGHT exercises. Great explanations and great sidekick. by the way, I am assuming that these exercises can help with a belly formed after such a surgery and a c-section...? I hope the answer is yes... And also, it was four years ago... so...crossing my fingers!!. I will definitely talk to my gynecologist about all this, as well. I am going to give him a piece of my mind for not telling me that this could have had some thing to do every time I complained about my saggy belly! 😒 luckily, TH-cam channels like yours are being a total eye opener for me!!😊😊

    Glad I ran across this! I'm a guy that's lifted for for over 20yrs and after a 5+yr layoff and almost 45 now I've tried to start lifting again and discovered my diastasis recti about a month into training so most of that's on hold now. I've been trying to tighten everything for the past few weeks, not just pulling in. The hardest part is just remembering to stay tight during work and regular daily activities. If I can fix this they say it could be a major reason for my back pain too which would be amazing. Good luck everyone!

    Now, this is something that all personal trainers should know about. I started back in the gym early this year after a 20 year hiatus. I showed the personal trainer my abdomen bulge and he had me straight up doing planks and sit ups including weight exercises that were highly stressful on the higher AB muscles.

    Thank you! It’s great to see this info from a PT. I’m perplexed, because it seems I barely had DR immediately postpartum, but now 15 months later I have the coning and “popped belly button” in certain positions (like plank, etc). Have you seen anyone who has regressed like this? I’m not having pain, so am not thinking umbilical hernia at this point 😕

    • @toneandtighten
      @toneandtighten  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Ginger! Actually yours is not an uncommon report. Please don't take this personally, but oftentimes it can take 6-12 months to lose all the fat a woman gains during pregnancy. It may not have been noticeable at first, but as you've slimmed back down it can become more apparent. Just stay consistent with the right exercises and you should start to see some improvement. I just posted this vid this week - might be a great place to start! th-cam.com/video/ltoueUICjB8/w-d-xo.html
      Good luck!

    Wow... learning about DR this week explains so much about my body struggles. Thank you! My 2nd and last baby is now 26. I have a huge DR gap in my Solar Plexus area. For years my transverse colon has been popping into the gap when I exercise and at other times. Would you recommend your program if I have developed an abdominal wall hernia in the DR gap???? I have seen many fitness, yoga, doctors, bodyworkers, etc over the decades who have not been helpful or even incorrect. THANK YOU for your professional advice here.

    Hello, I really appreciate this video. After my last child two years ago, I went to PT where they said I had DR and it was measuring at 5 fingers! They had me use a sheet to pull the muscles together this created a weird pooch almost as if everything went to that area. I started looking 5 months pregnant! The DR did change to like a 3 finger measurement. My question is do you think this would help with that huge pooch (it is like lower middle abdomen)? I just found out we are expecting again. Can these exercises be done for someone in the first trimester?

    Mine is huge, football size, I gave birth to 6 children, my doctor told me it's a hernia, have Graves disease, now at 240lbs, I can't lose weight on my thyroid medication, and the gap is huge and large, my physical therapist told me, I'm just fat, and had me doing all the things, in this video that are bad for me, In pain, she told me to suck it up, I'm being lazy, and that's why I am so fat. I cried in the bathroom, I eat healthy, have had botched surgeries on my ankles. My weight is killing me, and my Nurse practioner, no doctor here. Is making me do so many bad things, to hurt my insides, had gallbladder removal, and no support bending over, my guts pulling, and sharp pains, when I bend back up. Thank you for your video. • @toneandtighten
      @toneandtighten  5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Great question, Jennifer! That's going to be a little different for everyone depending on your consistency and rate of healing. As you check your diastasis (th-cam.com/video/LpsvIeGBKuk/w-d-xo.html) you should find the gap "narrowing" and "becoming firmer". When you're pleased with your results/progress feel free to re-include some of the more aggressive RA muscle contractions. Hope that helps!

    • @toneandtighten
      @toneandtighten  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Great question, londongirle3. Typically the diastasis condition affects women above the belly button, so typically lower ab work is safer. However, don't think of it as "upper" and "lower"... think of it as avoiding a contraction in the rectus abdominis and trying to contract the transverse abdominis. Hope that helps!

      MultiApple1982 - Great question! The only equipment that I would recommend not using is anything that would make you crunch your abs (some gyms have sit-up machines or ab machines that are similar to performing a sit-up). All the other equipment should be just fine! Just be sure to activate your core muscles (suck your belly button into your spine) with every exercise to really help keep your core strong. Good luck!

    • @toneandtighten
      @toneandtighten  5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      A "flat belly" is more dependent on your diet and activity. These exercises will help to flatten the muscles in your stomach, but should be done in addition to other core training. 6-8 weeks to see improvement with these exercises and clean eating.
