  • In this video, author and mental health educator Douglas Bloch talks about his experience of witnessing how, for some people, stimulants such as Adderall that are used to treat attention deficit disorder can also help people with depression. A friend who uses ADD stimulants in this way says that these medications restore the executive function of his brain so that he can organize and plan his life, instead of feeling anxious about being not being able to function.
In addition, one of the depression's symptoms is fatigue and lack of motivation. Because of their stimulating nature ADD medication can give the depressed person more energy. Please check with your prescriber before making any changes in medication.

Hi, I've been dealing with anxiety/depression most of my life. I started taking Concerta/Rubifen and its been life changing. Its now three years later and I'm well on my way getting my private pilots license. something I wouldn't dare attempt.

I agree, one of my Psychiatrists prescribed me ADD medication and it helped in many different problematic areas of my life. He committed suicide two years later. I knew by just looking at him that he had depression but him being in the Psych ward off and on, made it a certainty. I felt so bad for him, he was such a tender man and ever so young too. He’s suicide proved to me that it’s a variable options. I can’t get that out of my head. Depression is never ending, it’s just managing it with support, new found skills and medication that I’ve found solace.

@@DouglasBloch So your not going away, am so sorry to hear this. CBD oil, helped my arthritis wonderfully, was taken it for something else and found it dramatically helped my arthritis, it was amazing. Just have to be consistent. Pain, emotional, physically or psychologically is a great challenge. I look at agile healthy youth and am envious. I don’t mind growing old, it’s when my body sabotages me, am at its mercy. All my love Doug.

This is quite interesting. I had the same thing happen to me, but, I had the misfortune of them giving me way too much. I had a bad reaction to their by the book "therapeutic dose". I was doing really well on much less of a dose, now they won't let me try a low dose because it's in my chart of the bad side effects I had o n the higher dose of it. It was nice to feel like a functioning human while it lasted though! Thank you for covering this, I think more research is always needed for TRMDD and ADD/ADHD mixed together.
I hope you have a great week 😊

They help temporarily but any use more than a few days will cause it to get worse. Just in my experience anyways. Much of that stuff is basically legal meth. Very dangerous. I'm not knocking anyone I'm just saying what happened for me. They definitely help in the short term but I've found the depression to come back with a major vengeance once it wears off.

Yes this has been my experience. The initial euphoria takes the depression away, which is not surprising since you're taking speed. Speed dies that. Just a few months in and I just want more and more
