Came here after seeing Robert Kennedy on Bill Maher last week, seeing that something was obviously not normal with his voice. So I wanted to learn more! Hearing what you're saying, it made me remember a time period in my life where I found it very difficult to talk, the vocal tension you speak of, to the point of me even sharing with my friends how I found it very straining to try to speak in a connected way. Not surprisingly, this was during an abusive relationship. I love to sing, and I remember not being able to sing below a certain lower threshold during that time, the tension would keep my pitch elevated, its like my larynx would not RELAX ... Well its incredible, now that I'm in a very relaxed, accepting relationship - I can sing in SUCH a lower register! I can sing songs I've never been able to sing before... The low notes of Sam Smith, Shawn Mendes - I could never reach them before. Now I can sing lower than most women I know! (I have an affinity for lower register women's voices like Stevie Nicks and Miley Cyrus). Its quite fun!! 🥰 So to echo the message of this video - there is definitely a portion if not all of this condition that is connected to your state of mind! Treat the mind + body in a holistic way 🧘‍♀️ Look into Holistic Psychology as well! Blessings to all 🙏

I have a quick question….do you think it’s wise to let people know that you have SD specially in the work place, in meetings and such so they know to ask if something is not understood or if I need to repeat myself? I’m still trying to figure all of this out.
