I think today’s video is the best yet. Tuolumne Falls /meadows is just spectacular. How wonderful to have steak and broccoli last night- gotta tell you, I’ve never seen a face light up at the mention of broccoli like yours did. 😊Nice health/gear update. So glad you got the Cathedral permit, staying true to the JMT. I really enjoyed today’s views - thanks!
Best quality videos on TH-cam. Good memories of blue sky and grey granite from the JMT in 1980. Hope you are hanging your food while you climb Half Dome. That area has a lot of bears.
@gardeneyes1 Thank you so much! I shoot with a GoPro and edit on my phone, Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. For more specific info, you may be interested to check out my post-PCT Q&A video which covers these topics in more detail: th-cam.com/video/BcMHdl6CMiI/w-d-xo.html
Yeah I had considered this approach but also wanted to climb Half Dome, which would require a permit of its own plus add about 2700ft of elevation shift and 4mi distance-- Glad I was able to get my dream permit!!
I got my prior day question answered on the state of Glen Aulin. Glad they’ve reinvested in it. I think the heavy snows and even the year before that made it pretty wiped out. I used to give solar a go but got sick of spending finicky time with it so I just take the power I need now. I had so much battery weight on my hike it was pretty funny. About 65,000 mAh worth. But I loved it! Never had to sacrifice anything. So cool you got the permit. I’d love to get back to do that section and the other one by Mammoth someday. Great video work as usual! Often times with the Sawyer the issue is water mineral deposits. They have a whole vinegar regimen to break that up and clean it which I did that helped, but honestly, I think it’s simpler to just buy a new one every year as cheap as they are. I think that’s my new plan. -GoalTech
Yeah I love the idea of solar power for hikes but it seems to have worked far less reliably than I would need it to.... Regarding Sawyer, yes as much as I try to resist gratuitous over consumption, I tend to just repurchase them as needed, particularly given the company's commitment to humanitarianism
Your happy face that you have come into possession of a permit :) Well said, 'in order not to cloud the communication between body and mind', you do not use medication for altitude sickness.
Nice job on the permit flip in Tuolumne. I stayed at lower Cathedral Lake in 22' on my way from the valley floor to Tuolumne. Always, funny how walking off the main route just a short distance, reduces the density of backpackers. I had the lake to myself and it was a magical nightfall. I'm enjoying the videos. It's funny to know that you are actually weeks ahead on the trail. I assume you are well south of Bishop Pass junction by now. I can only imagine all of your experiences along the way. Can't wait to watch each day.
Thanks, Allen! Yeah I usually like to get these out much quicker, but go figure, connectivity was a HUGE issue early on and all throughout! So the lag just kinda is an artifact of the experience!
i didnt look at the map but for future reference: once you enter on your designated permit entry place, if there is any possible way to get to your other preferred route/ you can do that, even if it means going cross country to get there... there are some restrictions about crossing roads, obviously you could not just walk into your permit trailhead then walk down the road to the other one/ but almost... / probably not super useful trying to get to the valley from that side but can be very helpful in the toulumne area / so fun to see you at the Wilderness center we have gotten our permits there many times /SUNRISE!! one of our favorite areas we go to cloud's rest that way, glad you got to see the area, and you REally saw it you got some Cathedral as well.. too bad you miss the lakes though/ come back! haha/ AWESOME..../ my mom loves the diamox, it works/ but glad you were able to make it without it. seems like even if you live at sea level, once you've been up a bunch of times you get used to it... comedy we say living in smog makes it an even trade haha... glad your health is mostly ok we got covid for labor day for the second year in a row./ ok now/ / awesome video as always, so many great scenes! been away from youtube for a bit but we'll be catching up, thanks for taking us along..

Always love broccoli!!
Beautiful scenery. Following your journey with great interest. Thanks for providing such wonderful content.
Thank you, Barbara!
Can’t improve on others’ sentiments! Thanks and hike on!! 🥾🏕️
Congrats on your first of many weeks. Be safe on the Big Rock.
Man Half Dome is no joke!!
There's no place like Yosemite. I'm envious, but glad you appreciate it.
Special spot for sure!!

I did not hang it, but it was all bear-safe in its bear canister 😀
Your video quality is so good. What gear do you use for videoing?

You have it all planned out.
Tryin', bud!
Sounds fantastic!
Nice👍👍. If you don’t get a permit, no worries you can hike Tuolumne to Happy Isles as a day hike. 20 miles 90% downhill.

I forgot, yes indeed, Nijmegen was a good training
