Sad that he never got compositional credit. Many drummers never get credit during this time period. Case in point, Funkadelic's "Good 5:20 Ole Music", with Tiki Fulwood. I've been told, that he could do drumrolls with his kickdrum.
Would it be possible if you could do a podcast on The Drummers of Motown or James Brown , or maybe even Funk Drumming?! I enjoy listening/ watching your podcasts! Thank you 🙏!😊
Yeah, it was "highlighted" more on the Jungle Groove 1986 version. By that time DJs had already been doing remixing and dubbing etc. The 12" and disco and reel to reel tape editing by 1986 had already been a huge part of dance music. It's no coincidence that DJ Danny Krivit is responsible for the edit looped version on the Jungle Groove. That version if you listen closely is just edits and looped version. Its the bonus beat edit. But the 1970 45rpm version, that's another story.
Have you ever interacted or interviewed Zoro …. He played drums and Toured with artists like Bobby Brown and Lenny Kravitz , and he wrote a book on The History of R&B Drumming?! He’d be a great person to talk to!!!! Thanks 🙏 again and keep up the good work!! ✊🏾
Yeah that would be a great interview. I read an interview with him in a magazine once while he was touring with Frankie Valley. It was very interesting.
James Brown had some incredible performances in music… but he wouldn’t have been successful if it weren’t for the musicians who were in his band!!!! Sadly Clyde Stubblefield didn’t get the respect 🫡 and recognition he truly deserved in my opinion! Rest In Peace to Clyde Stubblefield and John “ Jabo” Starks . ✊🏾🙏😎
I doubt whether Clyde or Jabos ‘ families get anything. I asked YURT who sells some samples - they said something goes to the Clyde Foundation. The appalling thing IMHO is next to next to no one contacted & thanked Clyde or probably many many others . Prince & Mellisa Etheridge exceptions

Fantastic episode! Clyde played with such a light touch in contradistinction to most drummers of the modern era.
Thanks Charles!
Clyde the best drummer that ever lived

I wonder if the 45rpm version is identical to the Jungle Groove long version.
❤
Thanks for watching!
Who gets the royalties for when they use this sample?
The estate of James Brown and probably Universal Music.
