So many unknown (in our days), good-sounding tenors.....here it's Cortis then Poggi who I like best.

Piccaver has an approximative italian. Why? I have the feeling that the words do not have much importance for him. They all have very good voices, so the choice is only about style and musicality. As I do not really like the sobbing tenors, Cortis is out. Because of the funny italian, Piccaver is out. Poggi is at the limit of sobbing but acceptable (so beautiful voice), and Lego for the beautiful tenuti. Lego and Poggi are the best.

No way, this song, it has to express the pain inside, the despair, the need to cry a little. 4 people I think are good Italian bel Cantos, put them together and see where they differ.

@@lisaszxu1961 express the pain doesn’t mean to add noises (sobs) not written by the composer. If the aria is well sung with a good articulation, it is mostly enough. As a character, Cavaradossi is not a man who will cry like that, he is an hero and ( my opinion), sobbing at this moment is destroying the character. This is why Poggi here is at the limit and Cortis is too much (only my taste). As I told you another day, I like voices with their failures. Good if they are technically perfect. But the perfection can be boring if nothing is behind. This is why a Di Stefano (technically approximative) is more interesting mostly as a Pavarotti (my taste)
