My married German Grandparents and German born mum immigrated to Australia at the age of 4 and she was naturalised in Australia at the age of 14 when her parents were. She was obviously underage. Will this stop me from getting German citizenship by descent?
Thank you for your enquiry! It usually shouldn't stop you from getting your German citizenship through descent as she was a minor and it wouldn't have been her decision! For more information, please contact us at citizenship@polaron.com.au
Hi Jayne and thanks for your question! It depends on which pathway. Determination can take up to 24 months, Declaration and Restitution are fast tracked up to 12 months. The German government are currently dealing with a bit of backlog, but these are the maximum timeframes at the moment!
Hello again! Yes, they technically can, it does depend on how the lineage travels through the generations - if the next generation was male born in wedlock, it's a likely yes; if there is a female in the mix, it would depend if the next generation was born after 1949, as you can only get citizenship from the male linage when you were born in wedlock before 1949. There are a couple of key points that would determine if a great great grandchild is eligible, but yes it is possible. To speak to one of our eligibility specialists, please contact us at citizenship@polaron.com.au 🙂
