Tipu Sulthan was a learned man who wrote 130 some books on different subjects including scientific experimentation. No other King in entire history of undivided India has done that before him. Mysore was very progressive nation back then due to Tipu Sulthans policies. Though there were ongoing wars like Anglo Mysore, Maratha Mysore but despite that Mysore achieved much more than other Indian subcontinent countries. They were having a ship building industry, manufacturing hubs in different cities, they built dams and irrigation systems, they built rockets which eventually got man to moon and now to marse, there troops were modernised to fight in European style to counter British forces. What a man, Tipu Sultan was! Truly a king!... I am lucky enough that I visited his palace in Mysore a long time back. One more thing, the tv shows that were made in my era of 90's were really so great!... I think the kind of personality Tipu Sultan had, only such kind of shows that were made back then could do justice appropriately. I cannot imagine today's bollywood or television industry can ever make something like that serial of Tipu Sultan!.. It really gave goosebumps. Really miss those heavenly days...

Tipu got Runmust Khan, the Nawab of Kurnool, to launch a surprise attack upon the Kodava Hindus (also called Coorgs or Coorgis) who were besieged by the invading Muslim army. 500 were killed and over 40,000 Kodavas fled to the woods and concealed themselves in the mountains.[39] In Seringapatam, the young men were reported to be forcibly circumcised and incorporated into the Ahmedy Corps, and they formed eight Risalas or regiments.[39] Thousands of Kodava Hindus were seized along with the Raja and held captive at Seringapatam (Srirangapatna). They were also subjected to forcible conversions to Islam, death, and torture.[40] The actual number of Kodavas that were captured in the operation is unclear. The British administrator Mark Wilks gives it as 70,000, historian Lewis Rice arrives at the figure of 85,000, while Mir Kirmani's score for the Coorg campaign is 80,000 men, women and child prisoners.[39] In a letter to Runmust Khan, Tipu himself stated:[41]
We proceeded with the utmost speed, and, at once, made prisoners of 40,000 occasion-seeking and sedition-exciting Coorgis, who alarmed at the approach of our victorious army, had slunk into woods, and concealed themselves in lofty mountains, inaccessible even to birds. Then carrying them away from their native country (the native place of sedition) we raised them to the honour of Islam, and incorporated them into our Ahmedy corps.[42]
In 1788, Tipu reportedly ordered his governor in Calicut Sher Khan to begin the process of converting Hindus to Islam.[43][44][45]
The archaeological survey of India has listed three temples which were destroyed during the reign of Tipu Sultan. These were the Harihareshwar Temple at Harihar which was converted into a mosque, the Varahswami Temple in Srirangapatnam and the Odakaraya Temple in Hospet.[46]
The following is a translation of an inscription on the stone found at Seringapatam, which was situated in a conspicuous place in the fort:[47]
Oh Almighty God! dispose the whole body of infidels! Scatter their tribe, cause their feet to stagger! Overthrow their councils, change their state, destroy their very root! Cause death to be near them, cut off from them the means of sustenance! Shorten their days! Be their bodies the constant object of their cares (i.e., infest them with diseases), deprive their eyes of sight, make black their faces (i.e., bring shame).

According to Ramchandra Rao Punganuri the true number of converts was about 500.[44]

Kareem, Tippu Sultan issued an edict for the destruction of Hindu temples in Kerala.[35] The portrayal of Tipu Sultan as a religious bigot has been also disputed by some sources suggesting that he in fact often embraced religious pluralism.[36][37][38]
Tipu got Runmust Khan, the Nawab of Kurnool, to launch a surprise attack upon the Kodava Hindus (also called Coorgs or Coorgis) who were besieged by the invading Muslim army. 500 were killed and over 40,000 Kodavas fled to the woods and concealed themselves in the mountains.[39] In Seringapatam, the young men were reported to be forcibly circumcised and incorporated into the Ahmedy Corps, and they formed eight Risalas or regiments.[39] Thousands of Kodava Hindus were seized along with the Raja and held captive at Seringapatam (Srirangapatna). They were also subjected to forcible conversions to Islam, death, and torture.[40] The actual number of Kodavas that were captured in the operation is unclear. The British administrator Mark Wilks gives it as 70,000, historian Lewis Rice arrives at the figure of 85,000, while Mir Kirmani's score for the Coorg campaign is 80,000 men, women and child prisoners.[39] In a letter to Runmust Khan, Tipu himself stated:[41]
We proceeded with the utmost speed, and, at once, made prisoners of 40,000 occasion-seeking and sedition-exciting Coorgis, who alarmed at the approach of our victorious army, had slunk into woods, and concealed themselves in lofty mountains, inaccessible even to birds. Then carrying them away from their native country (the native place of sedition) we raised them to the honour of Islam, and incorporated them into our Ahmedy corps.[42]
In 1788, Tipu reportedly ordered his governor in Calicut Sher Khan to begin the process of converting Hindus to Islam.[43][44][45]
The archaeological survey of India has listed three temples which were destroyed during the reign of Tipu Sultan. These were the Harihareshwar Temple at Harihar which was converted into a mosque, the Varahswami Temple in Srirangapatnam and the Odakaraya Temple in Hospet.[46]
The following is a translation of an inscription on the stone found at Seringapatam, which was situated in a conspicuous place in the fort:[47]
Oh Almighty God! dispose the whole body of infidels! Scatter their tribe, cause their feet to stagger! Overthrow their councils, change their state, destroy their very root! Cause death to be near them, cut off from them the means of sustenance! Shorten their days! Be their bodies the constant object of their cares (i.e., infest them with diseases), deprive their eyes of sight, make black their faces (i.e., bring shame).

According to Ramchandra Rao Punganuri the true number of converts was about 500.[44]

What a man, Tipu Sultan was! Truly a king!... I am lucky enough that I visited his palace in Mysore a long time back. One more thing, the tv shows that were made in my era of 90's were really so great!... I think the kind of personality Tipu Sultan had, only such kind of shows that were made back then could do justice appropriately. I cannot imagine today's bollywood or television industry can ever make something like that serial of Tipu Sultan!.. It really gave goosebumps. Really miss those heavenly days...
