    Crank heat up all the way. Cook up 2 lbs of bacon to desired crispiness across the grill. Scrape goodies off after cooking. Wipe down with paper towels. Your rubbing the goodness into the steel. After all wiped down squirt GRAPESEED OIL over your grill wipe oil over all the grill while heat is on leave on heat on high for about 5 to 10 minutes while you lightlywipe excess off. Olive oil will eventually make your grill top gummy. Never wash with soap! Hope this helps. If you don't have a bench scraper, get one, it helps a lot. This is how I kept my steel top clean and seasoned in my mobil concession trailer.

      Agreed. Sadly, I'm considering replacing my Blackstone with a Breeo Fire pit/Grill

    I might add that seasoning the griddle the first time, takes several applications to get the top right. Don't rush it, apply several coasts, let it smoke wipe free of oil, reapply and repeat, this could take 10-15 times initially but after that your good to go.

    use something to sand the top down get the food off the griddle. Once you get a nice even surface clean it well, and then reclean it just to be sure and get all the tiny fragments that come loose off the griddle. Heat the griddle with all the burners on about half way then use flaxseed or grapeseed oil to start seasoning the top. You'll hear others using various types of oil, and some may do better than others, however the flax and grapeseed have a higher smoke point than most and from my experience with seasoning cast iron in general the patina holds up much better in the future.
    For maintenance after cooking of course clean as you usually would, once you get the top free of food and grease from the cooking, i wash mine down with water and dry with the burners on. I follow up with coconut oil which surprisingly has a very good protective layer between uses. I like the coconut oil because its not sticky as some vegetable oils can be, and its easy to wipe clean for the next time you use the griddle, just reheat, wipe free and your ready to cook.

      +Marlin Thompson Yeah, I just saw the same info on a Blackstone video. I'm going to do just that.

    as far the gap on the griddle if you add the surround table accessory for $99 it will solve your problem with the flame going out

    • @IndianaDiy
      @IndianaDiy  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh yeah perfect gift, we use it allot for all kinds of grilling. Just make sure it gets seasoned good, use a good oil like olive or coconut oil is my suggestion.

    I just boutght a 36 inch blackstone griddle. I got a 15 pound tank and when I turn the gas on it makes a noise. do I have to have a 20 pound tank?

    • @IndianaDiy
      @IndianaDiy  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Is it possible to try a different tank? Does the Grill work fine and noise dissipate after a while?
      hard to tell without seeing your tank, but if its 15 lb tank it might be too small, I'm not for sure on the age of your tank but it might too old to use.
      Hope you figure the problem out, Its grilling season.

    Does the grease flow into the drip pan properly without making a mess? Looks a little different from the 28" grill so I was wondering if you also have the problem? Thanks

    • @IndianaDiy
      @IndianaDiy  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +JACK MELLOTT I don't have that problem.

    • @jackmellott3628
      @jackmellott3628 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks...I could see the design is different on the 36" than the 28"...they drilled a hole in the end of the drain to prevent oil from running up the bottom of the trough and dripping on the grill/ground. Also they did a better cut on the corner where the grill and trough meet. Trying to decide how to mod my 28" to prevent spillage of oil all over.

    I'm several months late here but could you do me a solid and explain seasoning to me? I want this thing, but I don't know how or why to season it. Don't know how to tell the difference between the surface color I want, and rust. Don't have any idea how to tell when to re-season it either.

    • @IndianaDiy
      @IndianaDiy  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Max W I just like cast iron pots and pans. You season just like cast iron, since it's a steel product seasoning it will make it easier to clean and last a long time.
      I used organic olive oil on the entire top griddle. When you cook on the top long enough it should turn black and have a oiled look. You shouldn't have to re season it, if you some cooking oil on it every time.
      I was using olive oil, but I would have saved money by using cocnut oil to season it. Cheaper in large qaulity to buy cocnut oil and it has high temp to the oil.

    • @IndianaDiy
      @IndianaDiy  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. I used Organic Flax seed oil to reseason it.

      cheap Canola oil works great. I did three coats on my initial seasoning and then started cooking. Love the griddle.

  • @maryghump

    Why would you do a review if you don't have it in top shape? I love my Blackstone Griddle and I can tell you like cooking on yours too but you need to take this review off and do another one when you get your griddle in top form.

    • @IndianaDiy
      @IndianaDiy  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +maryghump I haven't grilled on it in about a year. I'm a Union worker in auto industry working tons of overtime. I like to cook on but haven't had any time between work and fixing up my home.
      I was planning on making a updated video sometime before winter.

  • @chalemi

    Olive oil is WRONG oil for seasoning anything. Way too low flashpoint. Use peanut oil or even vegetable oil.

    • @IndianaDiy
      @IndianaDiy  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +chalemi I'm reseasoning the surface soon, Blackstone recommend flax seed oil in there video on redoing the seasoning.
