    Thanks dude, this saved me $3000 from the dealership who wanted to re-cord and re-flap the whole thing.

    I've been fixing my EOS roof with shoelaces i found matching. Were a bit less elastic but seem holding fine for 3 yrs now

    I've just done this on my 2007. So, I'll see what happens once the weather gets better. The ironic thing is that when I opened the roof part way to make the adjustment, neither side got caught. This is the first time that this has happened for quite a while!

    Follow up,
    I’ve done this in mine, worked for a few weeks and then had to tighten it again, to a point we’re the elastic lost its “elasticity” so do this as a temporary fix but buy new elastic cords for a long term solution.
    Great video anyways 👍🏾💪🏾

    Thank you for this great video. It has been very helpful. On my 2008 Eos, I had the same issue. However, in my case, the flaps were catching because the lining did not fold completely. There is a short piece of flat elastic with 2 crimped ends and just tightening that sorts the problem. That piece is stretched most of the time when the roof is up which would cause it to go slack after some years. I will replace mine with new as a permanent solution.
    I hope this finding will help others too.

      It's about 2 years since we did this fix, but we noticed it stuck again the other day. It might just be due to the fact the cars been off the road for over 2 months now. Good luck with yours.

    Once a year open the roof half way and chek for rust on hinges struts torn rubbers and leaks clean all rubbers and spray silicone oil that lasts long. pencil graphite also lubricates a little. The sticky panels in this video have a Ball joint. he puts it on dry but i recommend using a small dab of grease to reduse wear of the plastic and the Ball joint. If you plan on keeping the car for a long time buy the ball joint and cable. Over time the Ball wears out and the cable will pop off randomly. Also there are a lot off breakable parts so be carefull

    • @DanSohan
      @DanSohan  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@furryhenry things to watch out for.. obvious smoke and oil leaks from underneath. Dash lights for the particulate filter. These TDIs like a nice long run from time to time to blow the soot out. If they've only done short trips it can block up the dpf filter. Main one we missed.. at a stand still in idle.. the rpm needle should be pretty stable.. if you see the needle wobble and you can feel a similar wobble or vibration on the clutch pedal you'll need a dual mass flywheel.. also check the oil level.. if it's really high above top notch, it could have been over filled, or have a fuel into oil leak from the fuel pump, common on VWs, no problem if caught early, but if it's been going on a long time will cause engine smoking at least. Might all sound bad, but I've had a lot of cars and the EOS is a lovely thing to drive, tdi feels good on the road and the roof is a real plus. We've done the clutch, cambelt and fuel pump, and still feel it was worth it. Done 60,000 miles in 3 years and it's still going strong at 150,000

    You can also remove the plastic of the flaps and you have a triple attachement there that allow you to move the orientation of the flap a little bit. I fixed mine like that for ever...

      can you explain what did he do there? just loosen the bolts?

    • @Ypsens
      @Ypsens 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, take of the plastic flaps and you have 3 bolts that you loose and move the flap support to give more space and escape it to touch the top. You can change the orientation of the support a little, I have fixed mine like that. If it's not enough you can use bolts more adjusted and cut little the round for the bolts of the support to have more space for the ajustment to move the support's orientation (Sorry for my bad English)

    Worked like a dream on my 2007 US EOS - thanks.....my problem was identical. Rather than tie a knot that would be almost impossible to undo, I simply doubled the elastic by an inch and secured with the smallest cable tie I could find, clipping off the unised end. The next challenge is to try to fix the very shabby perished backing on the sun shade....there has to be an easy fix???

    Apparently there can be another cause of sticky flaps: the plastic cover plate of the flap can jam against the side panel of the car, preventing it from deploying. This video explains hot to pop off the plate, adjust the brackets slightly and replace the plate. th-cam.com/video/tRjqNZrmYXI/w-d-xo.html

    Hi do you know how to fix the roof on my eos that won't work because of the motor in the trunk that I thought wasn't working, but when we checked it it shows signs of life but doesn't want to close the trunk all the way and the car doesn't know that the trunk is closed or open the fuses are fine everything is roughly inspected basic do you know what it could be. In the trunk, the lights also do not recognize whether the trunk is open or not, and now I use the trunk as in the most common golf 5, because the soft closing will not work, and therefore the roof does not know whether the trunk is open or closed

    • @DanSohan
      @DanSohan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So it's the switch or sensor that detects when the trunk is open or closed. Find and replace would be a good start. Off hand I'm not sure where it is

    Hello, do you have any idea how to change the strings to the sunroof?
    the electro-motor itself is still working, I already ordered the metal strings/cable to open/close the sunroof, but can't find any instruction online how to replace the cable without damaging the hardtop. I don't know how and where to start.
    Would be greatful for any help

      I'm sorry, I cannot help. Our roof is working, and I would not like to try to open it, as it migh cause issue. I do not look forward to the day when strings break. It's a complex system. There might be some VW specalists in your area that have worked on them before. Maybe worth some phone calls. Best of luck

      Just some general purpose oil that might be used on bike chains etc. Not WD40 as that removes oil. Anything that comes in a tin with a little nozzle on the end.

    • @DanSohan
      @DanSohan  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry to hear that. Depends how mad the bash is. All the realese catches are on the body side, not the opening bit. When you try and open it, do you hear the catches move? If so, try bouncing the trunk, or boot as well call it up and down to see if it will realese. Although if it does release it might not close again. The roof mechanism is very complex and unfortunately if its buckled its gonna be hard to repair or find a replacement.
