    Stalactites are stuck “tight” to the ceiling of the cave; stalagmites are “mighty” rising up from the cave floor, IIRC. In a pinch, the tine from a clear plastic fork or a section of clear plastic swizzle stick can stand in for a flight peg. Great video!

    Stalagtite... Well, there is some adult language in there... but it makes the direction obvious...

    afaik there are also the combined pillars.. stalacnates... or something...

    Just some constructive criticism, I think you should have done the stalagmites and stalagtites to look similar to the walls. They form IRL by minerals being deposited onto it layer by layer. Black Magic Craft did underdark terrain recently and I think something like that would have looked better.
    Again, this is just my subjective opinion. I do love your work and always get ideas from your techniques. Sadly, I dont have a work space currently to make stuff like this.

    • @TabletopWitchCRAFT
      @TabletopWitchCRAFT  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m not sure the stalagmites and stalactites would form with strata layers like cave walls would. Subject to different forces and criteria acting on them to form their shape.

    John, I love your videos! You are so creative and resourceful. I don’t know if you will see this, but just want to make sure you are aware that there can be serious side effects to using resin/epoxy without the proper safety precautions. It’s recommended to use a respirator, gloves, safety goggles, and have a well ventilated work area. It’s worth researching when you get the chance. I would hate to see someone with your talent harmed. Happy crafting!

    In Swedish we know this easily because stalagmites are on the ground (marken in Swedish, "mites" starts with the same letter) and stalactites hang from the ceiling (taket in Swedish which, you guessed it, starts with the same letter as "tites"). Basically the same can be used in English stalaCtites (ceiling), stalaGmites (ground).

  • @chadtompkins2282

    Stalagmites might get in your way as you are walking and you hope stalactites hold tight to the top of the cave so they don’t fall on your head.

  • @Mara999
    @Mara999 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    As a child my mom taught me how she reminds herself which is which, but that only works if you speak Swedish. Stalagmites are on the floor because that is "Golv", while stalactites are on the roof which is "taK".

  • @ModerateHipster
    @ModerateHipster 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I do know which is the stalagmite and which is the stalactite. Stalactites form from mineral laden water dripping from the cave ceiling for millennia. Stalagmites are formed underneath stalactites because they are where the drips land. Which leads me to my only complaint about a wonderful video: when placing the stalactites on the flight stands, they ought to have been posed such that the pointy-down parts are pointing at the pointy-up parts. I'll definitely be making my own set of these!

    • @TabletopWitchCRAFT

  • @Jedidaddyo
    @Jedidaddyo 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Stalactites form from the ceiling from water and minerals that collect and harden as they drip down from the ceiling and that drip also, usually creates a stalagmite directly below, depending on the geography of that surface. A more angled surface or water can change if a stalagmite forms, but when a stalagmite forms, it grows upward, as the stalactite grows downward like an icicle, until they grow together, then they are no longer, stalactite and stalagmite, but have become a column. The underground can be quite fascinating with the way cold stone can move, flow, and form from the constant forces of water, gravity, pressure, and natural land mass movements.

    Another enjoyable video. Great stuff. Here's an easy way to remember stalagtites and stalagmites: the stalagtites hold TIGHT to the ceiling so they don't fall! :D Eh? Eh? Someone told me that as a kid, and I've never forgotten. I really like the critter in the pool - those ripples are awesome. And I agree with you about the black wash: I definitely don't overuse it, and as a result my dungeon tiles are probably a little brighter than most. But each to their own of course! Thanks for another fun and inspiring video!
