Hi. Great video. Myself and my wife are from Ireland and we fell in love with Poland a few years ago so we looked up how many Polish cities you can fly to direct from Dublin. We discovered the answer is eleven and we decided immediately to visit all of them. In two weeks we will fly to Lodz, the final one of the eleven.

Many Polish people thinks that Poland is not a good place to explore or just visit it but it's not really true and there are many beautiful places here. And also many people from Łódź think that this city is one of the worst place in Poland because of its bad-looking streets or smth but it's not that bad as you can see in this video and there are many things to do and it's all going to be better in the coming years 👍👍

From my experience there are no "no-go" places in Poland. All cities, towns, villages are livable and welcoming. Even if they were unpleasant or spooky in the past, now it's only a urban legend and something which survived in common knowledge.
Personally, I've been in Łódź several times and enjoyed every visit. The city is unique for it's industrial and film making history so if you look at it from this point of view it will never be boring.

Łódź is great! I love the post-industrial architecture as well as the beautiful buildings on Piotrkowska and the surrounding streets. Also, the mansions of the industrial age factory owners are gorgeous. For example, Poznanski Palace, right next to Manufaktura, would have been a great place to visit! It is absolutely beautiful outside and inside (Poznanski was the owner of the giant textile factory that houses Manufaktura these days and his palace was quite opulent.)
Btw, you mentioned something about a cinematic feel to the city. Łódź is renowned for its film school. Many famous movie directors, such as Polanski, graduated from Łódź Fim School.

As a Canadian living in Łódź for the past 6 years, I say thank you for coming to this city, I agree that Łódź is a underrated city, however it can also be very depressing, we have long winter months. you mentioned the first 4 days you where in the city it rained. That is most of the year, so we cannot spend a lot of time out doors because of the rain/snow/cold weather. We have two small children so going to play outside most of the year is not possible. Plus in the winter it gets dark by 15:30 and the sun starts to raise around 07:30 so it can get quite depressing in that time, but, we love the city.

Polish winters are very mild compared to Canada's. I am Polish Canadian and i have lived in London, Ontario since 1987 i was born in Krakow, Poland in 1977 and moved to Canada with my parents when i was 10 years old. Even here in Southern Canada( London, Ontario) the Winter is way worse than in Poland especially the lake effect snow. But i do get your point winter is depressing no matter what country you're in. I also wanted to write to you about it, but Jacek wrote first. I don't know how much you know about Lodz, but it was a very rich city in the 19th century and participated in the rat race of the nascent wild capitalism. There fortunes were made and fallen. It was a very cosmopolitan city and competed with Manchester in GB in the textile industry and the movie "Promised Land" is about this ghastly capitalism. In the English version I found only the trailer th-cam.com/video/OZzY--3DpXE/w-d-xo.html but you can probably find the whole movie in English. Necessarily with English translation or subtitles because it is very important for understanding the plot. This film was shot in the authentic interior and exterior of Lodz and you can compare it with what you see today while visiting the city. Only then will you understand how this city has changed and how the places you have seen have changed. I warn you, the movie is very serious and very heavy, but I think you will like it.

I visited Lodz back in April, and I really liked the city. I felt safe, and the people I interacted with were very friendly. I visited the city because I'm interested in its history, but there are many things today that also make the city great.
There are many old buildings in the city that look run down and like they're in the "bad part of town," but I didn't run into any problems when I explored some of the areas with the old buildings. Some of these buildings that are still standing were actually once part of the Lodz Ghetto, where Jews were forced to live during the Nazi occupation.
Lodz is a hidden gem in Poland with different unique features. I definitely plan on returning there in the future and would highly recommend it to anyone who visits Poland.

Many thanks for making the effort to visit my town! As you may know by now, most of the hate about Łódź comes from people who have either not bothered to visit it at all or devised their opinion after spending one hour at the train station. Łódź has a lot to offer but you have to discover some places yourself or ask locals (as you said, you will not learn much from travel books). But even many people in Poland do not know that Łódź enjoys one of the largest city forests… in Europe. Or that it is the place of one of the largest historical Jewish cemeteries… again, in Europe! For those who are interested: th-cam.com/video/ELlTHO1dKrg/w-d-xo.html
We don't have castles, but we have palaces - and you can visit them. Recommended: Poznański's Palace (close to Manufaktura) or Herbst's Palace (near Księży Młyn).

Shops are great. Plenty of attractions. Food is amazing. Buildings are being rejuvenated. The main roads and infrastructure are being developed beautifully.
Downside is the introduction of toll roads outside Łodz. Another downside is Roman Polanski's star on the HollyŁodz walk of fame. I'd like to see that removed.

A lovely video. Lived and worked (you even walked past the ex-office at the end of the video) in Łódź for almost 2 years before moving out from Poland in early 2019. Of course, living and traveling as a tourist is different, you need to deal with some stuff daily, but can agree the city has really attractive areas, and nice parks and museums apart from the shopping malls.
I wish to visit it again, sometimes miss it. We can joke of it being grey, foggy, and "like Bratislava in Eurotrip", also remembering the jokes locals told once at work "What is the best part of Zgierz?" -- "A bus to Łódź", but eventually, it still has a lot to offer, and definitely changes within years, can only imagine the improvements within those 4 years. At first visit in 2016, Księży Młyn wasn't really open nor renovated, or I didn't catch it, with just the good old Textorial Park office building there

"Duch Święty" means a Holy Spirit, "zesłanie" literally means "sending", but I think there might be another specific catholic term for it.
