    Sauté some onions and garlic and celery in butter/olive oil, then add your clams with some white wine and steam. Yum! French or Italian bread slices to sop up the juices-or have pasta like you made. The fish looks super yummy, too. I love panko-it really adds a nice crunchiness. Nice video-love the catch n cook😊👍

      Trish Voss - I’m glad you approve! They are fun to do and there is something oddly satisfying when it comes to the sound of butter sizzling on a skillet. I will definitely try adding more ingredients in upcoming videos. A lot of it depends on location. Sometimes I’m just working with what I can fit in a backpack. I have a big one now! So I can fit all kinds of good stuff haha.. Panko is amazing, the crunchiness and taste goes a long way.

    I am a somewhat new subscriber and are enjoying your video's so much. I have recently returned home to New Zealand after living in coastal Oregon for the last 12 years. I enjoyed the fishing over there although not seeing salmon / Steal head or Coho on my plate for the rest of my life would be ok with me.. I never did any bass fishing there as the neighbors I fished with were only into those 3 species. Keep up the great video content, I appreciate it all.. memories of places I have been, Thank you ..

    Indian Beach at Ecola State Park in Cannon Beach has some nice Mussels on the rocks if you like them, I prefer them to Razor Clams as I couldn't taste the ocean in Razor Clams even though I had them different ways.. I've had many trips like yours back in the day.... and had a great time by myself as well... about the clams, ... you said you can take 70 or.... I do love clams but not the sand and grit... here's what I do if I'm going to take that many... Put them in a bucket of clean seawater and about a cup of fine cornmeal... the clams will ingest the cornmeal and spit out sand and grit... when you cook them.. they will taste so much better without the crunch of grit... plus the broth with be sweet and yummy...👍👌...don't need a whole lot of water... you basically just what to steam them open and they'll be done........
    70 or so would make a nice chowder..!

    • @AnglingAddictsPNW
      @AnglingAddictsPNW  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Curt Nelson - lol I’ve waited out a couple snags before thinking it may be a fish. I’m usually trying to pay close attention for those indicators that a fish is on before before it’s super obvious. If you aren’t sure, it’s always good to wait it out for a couple minutes, give the line a little slack. The more you try to get it out of the rocks the more the fish is going to hunker down, and sometimes a fish has just gone around a rock enough that you aren’t getting the fish or your gear back.

    Do you like mussels? Those are easy to find. Require a little work to remove the beard. I prefer them to the various types of small clams. Really like how you conserve and take only what you can eat.

    • @AnglingAddictsPNW
      @AnglingAddictsPNW  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Captain Mike Henderson - I do like mussels and agree that they take a bit more work, but they are EVERYWHERE and that’s convenient. My thought has always been if you protect the resource it may always be there for the future, and respect for the resource goes a long way. I hope it’s things like this that rub off on others. We can’t just take without trying to preserve as well.

    Awesome day man. Would you be willing to divulge any good fishing and clamming areas easily accessible for someone with a bad hip who can walk a short distance. I've been to the south getty in Florence and did catch 2 greenling and 1 crab.

    • @AnglingAddictsPNW
      @AnglingAddictsPNW  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mike Rivers - after reading this I’m realizing that most spots I go to are either a good walk or you are climbing over boulders or down cliffs. Barview jetty is nice if you can just park in the gravel lot and fish right there on the rocks. It’s also a good place for surf fishing. I will let you know if something comes to mind, but as mentioned my areas usually take a little work

  • @TheBen117
    @TheBen117 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey nick! Not to air you out or anything (love this channel!) but when you’re done digging for clams you should really fill back in the entire hole you dug and not just barely cover the couple clams you put back, it’s very important for the beach ecosystem! In my opinion you could relate it to improperly handing the wild steelhead that you mentioned a few videos back... anyway, looked like a delicious meal!!

    • @AnglingAddictsPNW
      @AnglingAddictsPNW  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ben Ryweck - I appreciate you pointing this out. Though I haven’t done a ton of clamming, I don’t recall ever covering the holes back up, or seeing many others do it. I didn’t realize just how important it was and why it is that the holes NEED to be filled back in. Considering I’m all about trying to help preserve our resources for future generations, I have no issue with you calling me out and educating me. I plan on doing more of these so I will be sure to do it correctly myself, and to point out why it’s important for the beach ecosystem.
      Thanks bro, and yes it was really good!

    • @kingslew1866
      @kingslew1866 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AnglingAddictsPNW Not to worry about filling holes, the tide will take care of it nicely. This is an idea that was probably generated by someone who does more thinking about how things should be done than doing them...

    • @AnglingAddictsPNW
      @AnglingAddictsPNW  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      King Slew - I think it is always a good practice, but with this being sand, it will fill in on its own. But there are also areas that people dig that are more rocky and you actually would need tools to be digging for the clams, those are the holes that have trouble filling back in themselves, ultimately ruining the habitat or basically slowing its recovery stage. I’m all for respecting the resource.

      @@AnglingAddictsPNW Not true. Check out my video: Butter Clams th-cam.com/video/4qj8IZ-52Yc/w-d-xo.html
      In Yaquina Bay, the only place that you'll find Butter Clams (Saxidomus giganteus) is in rocky strata. We returned the day after digging those limits and the area that they came out of was pristine, completely filled in. When digging Gapers, (horse necks) (Tresus capax) which requires a deep and sizable hole, if digging with shovel not gun. Hole will be mostly filled next day and completely returned to original state in a couple days... I swear this is the truth and not conjecture...
      I could show you a more alluring way to hook those shrimp. Tight lines...

      Brock Parker - sorry for the late response. Hopefully you are out there finding fish. It’s a bit harder to say when the water gets low and the sun is out... they had recently recycled some fish down to Lewis, so there could still be fish around down lower. There has been more luck near the hatchery considering we are a good ways into the season now. I would just be looking for any water that is a bit deeper where the fish could get more cover.
