      I Am frankly astonished at the beautiful tone of your backyard dulcimer. BTW : I use a ukulele strap for a strap and it works just fine.I tie it top and bottom behind the nut and at the strum hollow.

    FYI... Bought my 3 grandkids these kits, and we built them together. Oldest one took hers to bible camp last summer. It rained and her box got wet and was ruined. Got her a new generic box, and we custom cut and decorated it. I decided to experiment with waterproofing the cardboard. After different trials, I decided to spray all the boxes inside and out with polyurethane. So basically the cardboard is now plastic coated. And they have all survived many camping trips and outings. On a side note, I got a used one on Ebay, and replaced the cardboard box with a corrugated plastic one. The corrugated plastic we got from political yard signs. Also found some at the hobby shop. The plastic box one sounds a bit brighter, but no real difference. Thanks for your videos.

    I have to say that I bought one of these --the "assemble it yourself" model and I love it. I play it more than my more expensive one. They also have an Etsy shop, which is where I found it. It stays in tune amazingly well.

    Nice video. I found a couple off ebay, one that had never been assembled and one that had been but the box had been badly beaten up. I assembled the one with the cardboard box, took the fret board off the damaged one and made a cigar box dulcimer both are quite nice and functional, together with the cigar boxes I have two dulcimers for under $50.

    I got one of the banjo kits from them and built it. I had a few questions for the owner, and he was extremely helpful and interested in the work I was doing - he even asked for pictures of the finished product. It was my first banjo; I have since gotten "real" banjos and I am still impressed by how the Backyard instrument feels and sounds.

I play ukulele, but don't play or own a dulcimer, but I'm definitely dulcimer curious after seeing this video and Steve's videos about the Backyard Dulcimer. This seems like a really inexpensive way to try out the dulcimer. Thanks for the great review!

    I almost ordered one of these and then I found the roosebeck dulcimers. That cost twice as much as the cardboard dulcimer but they are nice looking wooden dulcimers. But I don't know what they sound like we need banjo lemonade to review every dulcimer maker in the world. The world needs it. Banjo lemonade for president of America

Sorry but I just sent you an email to moment to go on your website to ask you the same thing about the roosebeck brand. You go girl.. I grew up in Ohio and could always walk about 10 minutes and be in the woods and walk around in the woods. Now I live in Utah and suburbia and have to drive a long way to get into the woods. I envy you so much it looks like you can walk right out your door and down into the woods golly I envy that. Thank you so much for responding and I love you

    Hey Mandy do you agree well I'll just ask you how do you tighten your dulcimers strings on a scroll head. Cedar Creek Jeremy says on the scroll heads they use the right tight Lefty Loosey rule so they all tighten clockwise and loosen counterclockwise is that pretty much Universal. The ones that I got from Dave at backyard music all Titan in a counterclockwise Direction

    • @BanjoLemonade
      @BanjoLemonade  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are not universal, it depends on the maker of the tuner. I’ve seen them go either way.

  • @charredbirchguy2349
    @charredbirchguy2349 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    One of the texts in the video mentions using the fretboard and making a body out of cigar boxes. I made a dulcimer from scratch, using three cigar boxes attached end-to-end. It plays OK, but the sound is a bit disappointing. I think structural pieces needed to tie the three pieces together deadens its responsiveness. It's especially noticeable on the higher "d" string, and overall, it has less sustain.
    Still, it's been OK for learning.

    So Mandy this is driving me crazy I have the six and a half fret on my dulcimer I have three dulcimers they all have the six and a half. But I'm finding that the octave is on the 7th fret no matter the note a or D or whatever it repeats on the 7th fret not the 8th fret what's wrong with my thinking

    • @BanjoLemonade
      @BanjoLemonade  4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Okay I'm going to leave my question on the page here below. But Jeremy from Cedar Creek dulcimers straightened me out. I feel so silly so the open string is the first note that you count and then you count up to the 7th fret that is your octave. Boy do I feel silly
